Led Zeppelin - How The West Was Won (Live)

CD 1:

LA Drone : Only 14 seconds long with no instruments

Immigrant Song - 10/10 - Couldn't be better. This is the first Led Zepp song other than Stairway that I heard and as soon as I heard it, I was hooked. Includes a kick-ass solo and great drum beat.

Heart-breaker - 9/10 - Overall its a great song. Extended guitar solo had me trying to learn it on guitar.

Black Dog - 9/10 - Just a great song

Over The Hills And Far Away - 8/10 - Not my favourite but I never skip it.

Since I've Been Loving You - 9.5/10 - If you like blues, you'll love this.

Stairway To Heaven - 11/10 - Best. Song. Ever. Nuff said.

Going To California - 10/10 - Very calming and relaxing. Great vocals.

That's The Way - 7/10 - Pretty good song. Also relaxing

Bron-Yr-Aur-Stomp - 10/10 - Page at his Finger-picking best. Really catchy.

CD 2:

Dazed And Confused - 6/10 - I love the song but its 25 minutes long and I think it drags on a bit too much.

What Is And What Should Never Be - 8/10 - Another good, calming song

Dancing Days - 10/10 - Very uplifting and catchy as hell.

Moby Dick - 7/10 - I love the riff but a 19 minute drum solo is a bit too long for me

CD 3:

Whole Lotta Love - 10/10- 23 mintues long but doesnt drag on because they go into 4 different songs. When it goes back into Whole Lotta Love near the end it really gets you moving.

Rock And Roll - 10/10 - If you've heard the studio version of this song, you'll know that its a great song. If you havent heard it, buy Led Zeppelin IV. Now.

The Ocean - 7/10 - I don't listen to it much. Still a good song though.

Bring It On Home - 10/10- Overall its a brilliant song. A perfect end to the best Live album I've heard.

W.A.S.P. - W.A.S.P.

1. I wanna be somebody - 9/10

2. L.O.V.E. Machine - 9/10

3. The Flame - 8.5/10

4. B.A.D. - 8.5/10

5. School Daze - 8.5/10

6. Hellion - 9.5/10

7. Sleeping (In The Fire) - 9.5/10

8. On Your Knees - 9.5/10

9. Tormentor - 9/10

10. The Torture Never Stops - 9/10

Great album, of course its made complete with the inclusion of "Animal (F*** Like A Beast)" which i'd give a 9.5/10. It may be sleazy 80s metal, but i like it!

average score = 9

thets go for something random..okay ill pick something from my collection and...its Avenged Sevenfold "Waking The Fallen". ah, well then, here goes.

ive gotta be honest with you here, this really is a spectacular album if your really into metal and dont mind a bit of cheese every now and then. the band actually say that GnR is one of there main influences (dont buy the album on the basis that they might sound like GnR though, because they dont). they have 2 rather good shredders on the band and a fucking machine of a drummer and even an Axl Rose meets emo/screamo of a vocalist, and actually im surprised that they arent as much of a well known name in the UK yet. there not afraid to make each song as epic as possible, with a lot of the tracks spanning over the 5 minute mark.

if your a follower of new wave american metal, then Avenged Sevenfold, if you havent heard them yet, are the band youve been waiting for. Killswitch Engage, Eighteen Visions (bag of wank) Shadows Fall, God Forbid, Chimaira and all the rest, Avenged Sevenfold take the piss out of all of them in terms of sheer technical ability (and by far the most bearable to listen to aswell, in my opinion)

1. Waking The Fallen 1:44 - a haunting call to arms of an intro. also a warning for the cheese that is about to come -

im not going to rate an intro that lasts for 1:44

2. Unholy Confessions 4:45 - the single of the album. due to the obvious time limit this track will have had placed upon it because of its planned release as a single, it doesnt really show off the capability of this band to make an epic song. however, probably the best the band can do in the time limit to show what they can do none the less -

7.8

3. Chapter Four 5:44 - "jesus, listen to those fucking drums joe!" the words of a freind (and bloody good drummer) of mine whilst listening to the intro of this song for the first time. although a short lived one, this is the first epic of the album. once you take this band seriously, the music is fucking great. and although cheesy, its actually how unafraid this band are of taking their music seriously that makes it all so damn good. and all of us on here can see past what others would call cheesey and appreciate the music for what it is, or else none of us would be on this GnR forum.

8.4

4. Remenissions 6:08 - it astounds me how this band can turn a metal crunch up into a part ballad then back into a crunch up all in the same song, and above all, do it tastefully . a beautiful outro, which then in turn goes back into a crunch up. were beggining to see how brilliantly this band can be at turning 6:08 secs of noise into something epic.

8.7

5. Desecrate Through Reverance 5:40 - this really is one fucking Frankenstein monster of a song. it sounds like 5 songs worth of material have been pushed and molded together until they made sense. theres no questioning this bands imagination and technical prowess. thats not saying its the best song on the album, however.

8.2

6. Eternal Rest 5:14 - for all you guitarists out there, the intro solo for this song will put all of you Vai wannabe's to shame, "put the guitar down lad, just put it down" i said to myself. the riff is something that should bring out the sexual animal in you too. seeing past the cheese, this song has a fuckin awesome breakdown in it, its really powerful. a fuckin cracker of a song.

8.8

7. Second Heartbeat 7:02 - this is where these boys really fuckin give it some cock and balls. this band can write a 7:02 minute song, thats fair enough, but the beauty is that these long songs actually keep you on your toes, as theres fuckin stupid amounts of ideas flying through each of them. this band have more musical ability than all the rest of those Emo hooray for tolerance!s put together.

8.9

8. Radiant Eclipse 6:11 - Jesus, im beggining to sound like im sponsered by these guys. seriously though, this is my personal favourite from the album. its the chorus. this guy can fucking sing like a mother fucker ill tell you that much, when he stops fucking sreaming.

9.1 (its a personal favourite, not the best)

9. I Wont See You Tonight, Pt 1 9:00 - here you are folks, the Dont Cry of the album, well, if Dont Cry was a new wave american metal song that is. its got a Slash meets Dimebag (Floods) solo, piano's and everything. really, past the cheese, if you just take a listen without laughing, this really is a moving song. im listening to it right now. jesus, its fuckin amazing!

9.7

10. I Wont See You Tonight, Pt 2 4:46 - heard Pantera's Suicide Note Pt 1 and 2? same thing really. this is where they get anry after the ballad. it gets pretty fuckin heavy, and its an aquired taste, so dont take note and qoute me on my rating for this "part 2" of the song.

8.2

11. Clairvoyant Disease 5:01 - this is getting on top of me, im getting too much avenged sevenfold, not enough nicotine and not enough sleep. sure, cool song, whatever.

8.9

12. And All Things Will End 7:40 - a great way to end the album. fuckin fantastic.

9.4

Avenged Sevenfold have done more for me than Metallica ever did. go on, quote me.

by the way, ive rated the album 9.4. that rating comes from a new wave american metal point of view, not an all round view, because it would just be stupid to rate a Metal band from a Popular music point of view.

if you have the ablility to see past cheesy stuff (and you wouldnt be into GnR if you couldnt) and you like your new wave metal (no, that isnt Nu-Metal, thats a different ball game), then i couldnt recommend this album any more. because from the Emo screamos to the Shredders to those that just want something different to most of the other shite metal bands out there today, it has something for everybody.

just dont come crying to me when your complaining that it doesnt sound like the Rolling Stones or Guns N Roses, you ignorant bastards.

I'll check them out. The fact you mentioned that the singer sounded slightly like axl rose almost put me off compeltely. But I'll give them a go.

its not one of those albums you can really recommend to people, because its not to everyones taste. try and see if you can download some of the stuff from the same album (the other material theyve done is wank). just dont buy it just cos i think its good, your one of the only cool people on here, i wouldnt like to dissapoint you.

Pink Floyd: Echoes, Disc 2 (I'll probably review Disc 1 later, and do a complete album review.)

1.Shine On You Crazy Diamond -9.5 This is a wonderful song, with lots of emotion. I would have given it a 10, but it kind of drags in places, and lots of people aren't too fond of the song's lenght.

2.Time -9.0 Another good song. "Time" has great lyrics, and a very catchy tune. One of the best songs off of Dark Side of the Moon.

3.The Fletcher Memorial Home-7.5 This song is nothing special, with the exception of the guitar solo by David Gilmore. This song has one of the most emotional solos on the album, which improves it quality.

4.Comfortably Numb -10 This song is just amazing! I don't know how else to describe it. The vocals and guitar are beautiful, as well as the lyrics. Definately a classic!

5.When The Tigers Broke Free 7.0 It's nice to see this song on an album, since for nearly 20 years, it wasn't. It's a good song, but nothing too amazing. The lyrics are the strongest feature of the song.

6.One of These Days -7.0 This song is instrumental, and has some good work by Roger Waters and Nick Mason. The ending is particulary exciting, as the song goes from a slow pace to a fast frenzy.

7. Us and Them -9.0 Another beautiful song. All four members of the band do a great job here, and the quality of their works shines through.

8.Learning To Fly-8.0 I'm a big fan of the tune of this song. The addition of female backing vocals worked well in this song, and it's one of Pink Floyd's best from the '80s.

9.Arnold Layne -7.5 This is a fun song from Syd Barrett. Experimental, and psychadellic would be the best way to describe this song. It's nothing to write home about, but it is a good listen.

10.Wish You Were Here -10.0 One of the best songs ever written, in my opinion. Wish You Were Here has so much emotion, and the sound and vocals are very beautiful. If you haven't heard this song yet, please go out and do so!

11.Jug Band Blues-7.5 I feel about this song the same way I do about "Arnold Layne." The lyrics are creative, and fun, but it's not a classic.

12.High Hopes-10.0 Another beautiful song. If this doesn't move you emotionally in some way, there could very well be something wrong with you. The lyrics are astoundingly good, and so is the tune to this song.

13.Bike-8.0 This is another song from Syd. It's playful, yet slightly dark at the same time. The tune is nice and catchy, and the song includes an interesting instrumental at the end.

Overall Rating: 8.4 I would definately recommend buying this album, especially if you haven't heard much from Pink Floyd before. The are several epic songs on here, and a wide variety of other good stuff. The lowest rating was a 7, which isn't bad at all, and I feel like I may have underrated those songs a bit.

LET IT BLEED

GIMME SHELTER - Best song ever written in history. What else must I say? 10.0

LOVE IN VAIN - Kind of boring and is slower than the normal version, but it has really poetic lyrics. 6.9

COUNTRY HONK - YAY! Better than Honky Tonk Women. Great guitars. 10.0

LIVE WITH ME - An okay song, nothing special. 8.7

LET IT BLEED - The title track, it has some nice parts but its a bit too long. 8.6

MIDNIGHT RAMBLER - Scary song! Great tempo changed, Charlie did an amazing change of rhythm during the "don't you ever do that" part. 10.0

YOU GOT THE SILVER - Keith on vocals, just a ballad. Nothing else. 7.6

MONKEY MAN - FABULOUS. The moment Keith's rippin' guitars come in, you know you're in for a good time. AMAZING piano solo by Stu. 10.0

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT - Dunno, was too cheesy for me. 7.2

AVERAGE 8.8 -- Great album, but I never listen to it, I mainly listen to two songs (Monkey Man and Gimme Shelter, sometimes Midnight Rambler).

REVOLVER

TAXMAN - Great rocker by George. Great solo by Paul. Everything rocks in this song, one of the best ever written. 10.0

ELEANOR RIGBY - Paul's turn. He collaborated a solo to George's Taxman, so George collaborated the opening part. Great stringwork. 10.0

I'M ONLY SLEEPING - And finally, John's turn. I'm Only Sleeping is great. Great guitarwork, and has, indeed, a sleepy feeling. 10.0

LOVE YOU TO - George's first indian song and the first time he did a major job on sitar. The sitar intro may make you go "wtf", but once the real action starts, get ready for a good time! 8.7

HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE - Paul's second attempt at Yesterday, a great song, it has a nice melody. Great vocals. The ending is the best part! 10.0

YELLOW SUBMARINE - Best kid's song ever, sang by Ringo, and great backing vocals by Mal Evans (you can hear them in the last chorus, they sound like Ringo's). Very funny! 8.7

SHE SAID SHE SAID - Lennon's first acid song in the album, and it rocks! 10.0

GOOD DAY SUNSHINE - Paul's feel-good song on the album. 10.0

AND YOUR BIRD CAN SING Great guitar melody by John. Awesome! 10.0

FOR NO ONE - Paul's best song on the album, and one of his greatest songs. I love it. Great chorus and great lyrics. 10.0

DOCTOR ROBERT - John's last proper rock n' roll song is a good one, but nothing special. 8.7

I WANT TO TELL YOU - George's third attempt, nice riff. Overall, good. 8.7

GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE - Paul's weakest song in the album. Too much horns. Kind of good. 8.7

TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS - SPECTACULAR. Not in terms of good, but this song has so much going on it's spectacular. John's lyrics, his creepy voice, sound everywhere ... Best acid song ever. 10.0

AVERAGE 9.6 -- Overall best album. From this we learn acid makes good music!

coc_wiseblood.jpg

1. King Of Rotten: 9/10. Very groovy tune, great opener for the record

2. Long Whip/Big America: 10/10. Perhaps the best tune on the album. Nice, rocking build.

3. Wiseblood: 8/10. Title track. Nothing special, some catchy lyrics.

4. Goodbye Windows: 9/10. Great song, deep lyrics and some nice guitar work.

5. Born Again For The Last Time: 7/10. One of the weakest tracks on the album. Pretty boring.

6. Drowning In A Daydream: 9/10. This song got a Grammy nomination. Very good rocker.

7. The Snake Has No Head: 8/10. Very odd song. I love to scream along with this song.

8. The Door: 8/10. Groovy tune, Pepper (the singer) has a great tune in his voice on this song.

9. Man Or Ash: 7/10. James Hetfield is singing in this one. Not very great, but not bad.

10. Redemption City. 10/10. AMAZING tune! Very deep, and a lot of soul in this one.

11. Wishbone (Some Tomorrow): 9/10. Again a very groovy song, nice and heavy too.

12. Fuel: 8/10. Fast and good song. Pretty heavy, good song for letting out aggression.

13. Bottom Feeder: 8/10. Instrumental.

8.5 average.

STICKY FINGERS

BROWN SUGAR - One of my favourites, great sax solo and the most amazing riff ever. 10.0

SWAY - Another great rocker, with a great bridge and excellent solos at the end. 10.0

WILD HORSES - The slowest Stones song ever, and man it gets boring. Too long. 8.8

CAN'T YOU HEAR ME KNOCKIN - Now this is something. This could be my favourite song off the album. Starts off with Charlie's amazing drums and Keith's ripping guitars, and halfway through the song Mick Taylor takes over and makes a 4 minute jazz session that rocks. Great. 10.0

YOU'VE GOTTA MOVE - No comments. 4.7

BITCH - It has some great energy at some parts and great riffs, good song. 9.0

I'VE GOT THE BLUES - Nothing special, just an OK song. 8.3

SISTER MORPHINE - Ugh ... Too slow, too long, and worst lyrics ever. Disgusting. 6.0

DEAD FLOWERS - Ok, but never hit the right spot for me. 8.5

MOONLIGHT MILE - Another masterpiece. Great chinese feel (no joke!). Good chorus and nice dreamy atmosphere at the end. 9.7

AVERAGE 8.5 -- Good album, but got some boring moments.

This is a really strange stage in Rolling Stones era. It is the album that came out after they left their greatest era and just before making shit records. It is their best. You keep discovering new things off this album all the time. Its just a bunch of songs thrown together to make ... This. Sure, one listen may not be enough to understand its greatness. It has one of the best rockers ever in Rocks Off, intense energy in Sweet Virginia, one of the best solos ever in Shine A Light. What else could we ask for?

Average got a 9, but feeling, 11/10.
