nunchuck Posted February 26, 2005 Posted February 26, 2005 Aaah! Winterland is a terrible show, my friend, sid's smacked up to fuck and the sound of that droning bass, uggh! i recomend the 'filth and the fury' documentary for some good pistol viewing, really interesting insight into the bands story and the most emotional i have ever witnessed John Lydon whilst he reminicces about his old mate Sid. nunchuck Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 True, you're right about the veirson of 'No Fun' but the show itself is bloody awful and Sid's playing, or lack of it, is absolutely shite, even by his standards. I guess the one reason to own this concert is the historic significance of the thing, but as a performance its just sloppy and painful, the band sound drained and have nothing left to put into the gig, it lacks excitement and energy, the complete opposite of what a punk rock show should be. The longhorn show is probably a better bet, i also recommend the 'DOA' documentary which has all kinds of various excerpts of punk rock stuff from that time period and from that pistols us tour, the sid and nancy i/view is essential. I have a bootleg of them from Sweden in 77 just as sid joined and even though they traded in a perfectly compotent bassist for a deranged junkie, its a really cool exciting show, i just cant remember where i got it from or whether they released it officially later on. He'd dabbled with heroin a long time before. Nancy came on the scene almost excactly around the time Sid joined the pistols, she actually came over to britain as a groupie for johnny thunders and the heartbreakers (which is why a lot of people held johnny responsible for bringing heroin into the uk punk scene) but johnny had been there and done that (literally, lol!) so he was having none of it, which is where sid came in and the rest is history. He was a drummer in the short lived band 'Flowers Of Romance' which featured siousxie sioux on vocals and other uk punk scenesters, i dont think he was the drummer in the banshees but i could be wrong.
