Maddergascar
I'm not sure. It's been a long time since anyone ever reached the heights of either of these two. I'm not sure it will ever happen because there seems to be a culture of backstabbing in the press, where no band is ever allowed to have too much success. What do you think bands are doing wrong that is stopping them from achieving this kind of status? This is not one of those "rock and roll is dead" threads, since I love loads of the bands around right now.

mr.b
You forgot to mention Green Day, they are/were fairly big...As for the topic, I don't really, i hope so. But you will always find someone who dosent like a band or will try to stir some shit, start some contraversity( i'm fair bad at spelling). Plus, there is so many different types of music, it would be very hard to find one band that will be able to cover everyones intrests, back in that time there wasent so many different types of music as we have today(correct me if im wrong), but there wasent as much, lets say, GOTH metal as there is today, back then it was just Rock N' Roll and POP N' shit...I dunno, this post is a disaster... Lumiere
Nirvana really weren't that huge. Posthumously, they've had a renaissance.

x Axl Rose x
Bigger than Nirvana yes, bigger than gnr well maybeGNR = 5 albums in 6 years, then the band failed from there, really the band latest 6 years and has as much fans as today as it did in the early 90s, I dont think there will be another band who could do half as well as GNR and when I say this I mean put out 5 albums in like 5 or 6 years and then dont release another tihng for 10 years and still have fans, so no I dont think soIt is hard to say tho considering the world is into rap

moreblack
it's a hip hop world now. The last big band that I can think of was Limp Bizkit, I remember when Nookie blew up, they were everywhere. And the next album, sold like 2 mil in the first week.Beyond that, nothing...
