Midnight Oil isn't the most famous or successful rock band of the 80s and 90s, but boy do they have a lot going for them. First off, you'd have trouble finding any raucuous rockers with a more consistent political message - environmentalist, pacifist, anti-imperialist, and pro-worker.

The Great Australian political band.

Shame they broke up.

I agree, great lyrics.

They are similar to RATM in the way they are politically motivated and driven.

The Lead singer is now a politicain.

Oh sure, they were great. Pity Peter Garret's such a tool now though. He spends 20 years campaigning for the environment, then as soon as he becomes a Labor MP, he changes his stance completely on logging in Pine Gap.

yeh, dunno much about them, heard a few of their songs. sounded pretty good. Peter Garrett is now a politician in Kingsford,lol

all non aussies should check them out as well as cold chisel.(aussies woulda definately herd of both these bands)

these bands shouldve done so much better overseas.

Midnight oil's 20,000 Watt rsl album got in the top 10 on the american billboard charts if my memory serves me correct, so they havent done bad. Thats the only album i bought from them, and its awsome. Power and the passion, blue sky mine, beds are burning, king of the mountain are all great songs. !!!
