Super Mario Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 And yes, I know there is no real connection, since this song was on Pink FLoyd's 1983 album The Final Cut, but the olyrics just seem to be partly about Axl Rose.Floating downThrough the cloudsMemories come rushing up to meet me nowBut in the space between the heavensAnd in the corner of some foreign fieldI had a dreamI had a dreamGoodbye MaxGoodbye MaAfter the serviceWhen you're walking slowly to the carAnd the silver in her hair shines in the cold november airYou hear the tolling bellAnd touch the silk in your lapelAnd as the tear drops rise to meet the comfort of the bandYou take her frail handAnd hold on to the dreamA place to stay[bloke:] "Oi! A real one..."Enough to eatSomewhere old heroes shuffle safely down the streetWhere you can speak out loudAbout your doubts and fearsAnd what's moreNo-one ever disappearsYou never hear their standard issueKicking in your doorYou can relax on both sides of the tracksAnd maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote controlAnd everyone has recourse to the lawAnd no-one kills the children anymoreNo-one kills the children anymoreNight after nightGoing round and round my brainHis dream is driving me insaneIn the corner of some foreign fieldThe gunner sleeps tonightWhat's done is doneWe cannot just write off his final sceneTake heed of the dreamTake heedI bolded some of the part that remind me of Axl Rose. Especially the end, "We cannot just write off his final scene", makes me think of Chinese Democracy and so worth.Sorry for the stupid post. Quote
Spoon87 Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 that's not a stupid post, i can feel you.especially these lines "The gunner sleeps tonight What's done is done We cannot just write off his final scene" fit very good. Quote
johnezz Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 it would be good if Axl listerned to Floyd, then he might learn how to write good lyrics. Quote
chicagocoma13 Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 The Gunners deam is one of the most emotional songs I have ever heard. Brilliant Waters song. I have read Axl loves the Floyd. They used to play the intro to Mother before Paradise City back in the day. The middle of Coma is a little Floydish as well---- Quote

Roger Water is a lengendary lyricist, everyone should take notice of his work. Axl hasnt because his lyrics are absolutely nothing like Floyd lyrics.I love GN'R for for the music not the lyrics, go get stuffed. Quote
IdRatherWalk Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 no I think of pink floyd when i listen to that song. Quote

IdRatherWalk Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 hes right, axl is hardly a lyrical genius. Quote
Duffan Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 lyrical genius. I hate that term , IMO it's to subjective there are a lot of great lyricists and writers in rock music who chose different avenues of written expression and it's all different , I know a lot of people who think Waters lyrics are assinine and only make sense if your'e stoned , Like I said it's subjective . Peace GnR Nation Quote
DirtyDeeds Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Well, people who can only see Waters' lyrics as making sense when you're stoned only have minds that are on par with My Michelle-type lyrics. Quote

I suppouse but everyone has a different idea of what a genius is , personally I think Bon Scott was a great writer , very clever and slick with the lyrics but others think it's just cock-rock crap so , well ya see what I'm sayin .
