Chrisi Rokks
I don't know much about metal...but i've seen a lot of people use 10 for bass n treble (i dunno bout mids) an buy a pedal or something
jrs2001_99
Contour is like an "inverted" mids control - the lower you set your contour, the more mids you have, and vice versa. If you boost your bass and treble, and leave your mids low (known as scooping your mids), you'll get a punchy, very distorted metal sound, good for rhythm playing. If you boost your mids, you'll have a much fuller, richer and brighter tone, much more suitable for lead guitar - if you're playing lead in a band you'll generally want to boost your mids right up to avoid the bass frequencies produced by the bass guitar and the high trebly frequencies produced by drums/cymbals etc. If you don't do this your guitar sound will just be lost in a wall of mush.
