Well, i bought a 2 megabit connection - it is working - but it's unbearably slow. Same speed as dial up almost. Currently downloading something from megaupload at 5 kpbs - if i had set it up wrong would it not work at all?

Strictly speaking, you're getting 2Mbps between you and the server. After that, there are a lot more factors that come into play. Unless you're the only one using the server, many concurrent connections exist to it and they all have to be allocated some peice of the available bandwidth. The trunk line it's connected to is probably a T1 (just a fancy term for 28 phone lines bundled together) that connects to some larger outgoing trunk out of your local area. The bottleneck could be anywhere along the chain.

You probably set things up correctly. You're right in your assumption that had you not set it up correctly, it would not work at all. But tell me, is this a cable, satellite, DSL, or some other method? I could help you a lot more if I knew that.

Feel free to pm me

I've been on 2.2mbps too for almost a year.

With yousendit i usually D/L around 55kb/s

Roughly the same for "save target as"

MegaUpload 2 - 10kb/s -Megasucky

Any torrent d/l usually 1-5kb/s - Ultrasucky for DVDS

Ok, well i've got it working insanely fast on my laptop :)

But the Desktop PC seems to be very hit/miss and doesn't seem to recognise every click of the mouse - almost like it's timing out, but i'll worry about that later.

MASSIVE thanks to mheckard - top bloke.
