Especially with who you put behind him. Alas, my crusade against Clapton is a lonely fight.

I know you hate Clapton, infact do you like any British blues guitarists?

My preference between Stevie and Eric shifts, atm, i like EC slightly better, (but that will proberly change back to Stevie once my copy of him live at the Elmo arrives. :D)

Sure he didn't play traditional blues, but thats why i like him, he shifted away and created a whole new genre of blues. His blues style is quite different from other blues guitarists, he was also highly inventive and is arguebly one of the most influentual guitarists of all time. He also puts alot of his emotion and feeling into his playing, and you can hear it, he's an honest guitarist. Also as a person he's an alround nice guy, humble person.

I can't see why you dont like him.

Now if you want an overrated guitarist, a certain mr Page proberly takes the cake.

Hey friend, I certainly love Jeff Beck for a British blues guitarist, and you are right about Page.

Clapton is blues to millions of people, and he doesn't deserve it. In my opinion, Eric's place is blazing trails in rock music, that's why I am a fan of Cream-Era Clapton. I detest Clapton personally as well, the way he pictures himself in classic Robert Johnson poses, the way he basically tries to embody everything the blues is. I don't really see him as all that original, I think he was at one time, but basically gave that up in favor of commercialism and what he calls his "blues mission", he wants to be the blues icon, and sadly he has achieved it.

Ok i can see where your coming from mate,

I agree it is a bit sad that people do see Clapton as the face of blues, but really to most people he is the most bluesiest guitarist they know of or have heard, because he achived huge fame (in particular British people as they were never exposed to black blues) I dont think he tries to be the embodiment of blues, he tried to move away from traditional blues.

I certainly do not see him as the face of blues, i am a huge fan of the three Kings of blues, T Bone Walker etc, the ones who paved the way. I do however enjoy Clapton's guitar playing, he is a fine guitarist.
