Genesis
Well, one makes music you want to kill yourself to, the other are the Smiths. Which are better, songrwriting, musicmanship, frontmen, live acts, whatever.

Alan Niveen
I love both, but I voted Led Zeppelin. On a GNR forum, it's going to be a hard time for The Smiths.
Lithium
I like The Smiths, but they're not even close to Zepp. Why? Better frontman, way better guitarist, way better drummer, way better bass-player and way better lyrics.

Alan Niveen
Any reason why?I feel more emotion in Led Zeppelin's music. The Smiths are more cerebral...Led Zeppelin were also more adventurous, they experimented a bit more than The Smiths. Genesis
The Smiths are equally influential as Led Zeppelin on the British music scene. Plant was nowhere near as good a lyricist as Morrissey. Johnny Marr is as influential as Page, probably even more so today. They had a tight rhythm section too. Zeppelin were boring live too, 3 hour sets where most of it is drum and guitar-violin bow pieces doesnt constitute as best live act.
metallic ko
the Smiths.
moreblack
re: the live thing, it really depends on what era of Zeppelin you're talking about. To be as influential as Page, you'd have to be Jimi Hendrix.
Genesis
Or Johnny Marr, or Frank Zappa, or Tony Iommi, or Zoot Horn Rollo, or Lou Reed.In fact, labelling influential guitarist down to two men is extremely narrow minded.
