An album that deserves to be discussed endlessly.

I love this album. I much prefer it to their other stuff (Meat is Murder in particularly)

I voted Frankly Mr. Shankly, as the lyrics never fail to make me chuckle.

I think it's the Smiths best and hope its this that they all get remembered for.

It's up there as one of the best of the 80s. Better than the metal scene by miles.

Maybe tied with Scary Monsters, Rattlesnakes, Murmur etc.

A dreaded sunny day

So I meet you at the cemetry gates

Keats and Yeats are on your side

While Wilde is on mine

although i do find the best lyrics to be

So, I broke into the palace

With a sponge and a rusty spanner

She said : "Eh, I know you, and you cannot sing"

I said : "That's nothing - you should hear me play piano"

hehehe

I listened to it again today to commemorate this special day.

Brilliant stuff really. Light that Never goes Out, The Queen is Dead, I Know It's Over, Cemetary Gates.

Never Had No One Ever is quite experimental for the Smiths.

Never Had No One Ever is quite experimental for the Smiths.

It's quite bluesy.

And Johnny Marr seems to mention it quite often.

Guest katie

god...how could you make me chose!

i wouldn't say it's thier best, for me that is still hatful of hollow

my favourite three off of it are:

1) the queen is dead

2)i know it's over

3)frankly mr shankly

it is an amazing album, i can never get enough

Even more surprising (altho what do you expect from a forum full of hair metallers) than the fact that this thread only has a few replies is the fact that no one voted for there is a light that never goes out

i think it is a beautiful tragedy, but there have been so many better smiths songs of the same type
