Make Firefox WAY faster

I really noticed a difference on my Firefox after I did this...it works.

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit enter. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining

network.http.proxy.pipelining

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now! biggrin.gif

**EDIT**

For those on the new browser, you may wish to re-add the "Browser.turbo.enabled" boolean since it was removed in FF1.5

here's a few other things you may like to tweak.

network.http.max-connections : 48

network.http.max-connections-per-server : 16

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy : 12

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server : 4

do those tweaks and let firfox fly!

Just a note... Firefox is useless with intranet/local websites. Authentication/Scripts problems etc etc...

For anyone who's about to download IE Beta 2, it messed up my computer pretty much. I could not display network drives for example...

...Firefox is on all the Staff laptops at my school, and it handles the Intranet ok...

Thanks for the heads up on IE2... Did they put any new features on it at least? I'm assuming tabbed browsing will be there, but anything else?

Well, I'll admit I havn't tried FF very much since I was pretty annoyd that a cople of pages wasnt displayed correctly and that it wouldnt automatically use the Windows authentication for the intranet site.

Here's the IE7 page on microsoft:
