jamesfunnell
here's my explanationYoull need to follow where im going with this so hang on.Remember Sweet Child O' Mine, One of the best songs of all time, and you would think that EVERYONE likes this song right? but one of the bandmates was "not" into it yet and thought it was a waste but eventually he got it and it turned into a medly hit that will live on forever. Slashs favourite song is proberly lets guess it to be a song thats not better than SCOM, lets say "Out Ta Get Me" because of the high use of guitar riffs.Imagine if AFD was a 12 year awaited album on the way and slash is the main dude and a couple of months before hint of release. in a interview slash mentions his favourite songs "Out Ta Get Me, Your Crazy & Rocket Queen", 2 Songs are leaked from which are what slash mentioned in his interview, Because of the long wait, people who hear it will like it no matter what because of their long wait when really it kinda sucks in their heart. A couple of decades later the CD is released, people hear slashs favourite and now its familiar, then they listen to the next track AND BOOM Sweet child o mine comes on. their mind is BLOWN Away. The Wait Is Over And Their Wishes Have Come True" Just because it was slash's favourite, it didnt mean it were the main songs for the CD.just making a post and this is proberly the longest post ive ever done. and if someones got a gay joke to make, fuck off, i dont want any here.sorry way too long to read....LPI am going to KILL the next person who does this!!! Why post just to write that - a waste of my time Good post, by the way - what i was thinking. Better simply can't be the best song on the album, maybe it is Axl's favourite because it might have his best lyrics but it doesn't appeal to everyone. I believe that CD will be something very special and if Better is the best song - that will not be the case because i don't think it is that special. smokingarthur
I think people tout 'Better' because it by far has the most single potential of what we have heard.'There Was A Time' happens to be my favorite, but that's no single. Ditto for 'Catcher In The Rye'. Nice song, not exactly catchy in the radio sense. If there is one continuing problem I see with the new tunes its the lack of proper choruses. Songs like 'There Was A Time', 'Madagascar', 'Catcher In The Rye' and 'The Blues' are all good songs. But their structure is wacked. They are sort of free flowing epics without hummable riffs or catchy choruses.I almost agree with you. Though "The Blues" isn't the worst offender here. TWAT is not one of my faves, either is Better. I like Catcher, Maddy & Blues...
Guest
sorry way too long to read....LPYour must have the attention span of a goldfish What's worse is that you decided to post just to raise your post count. If you couldn't add anything to the discussion then why bother saying anything? On topic- You raise a good point. Just because The Blues, TWAT and Better are Axl's favourites doesn't necessairily mean they are the strongest songs on the album. There maybe another reason why Axl likes them so much- perhaps the lyrics or even the song in general have a special meaning to him.
angel of music
I think Axl tends to have more mellow songs as his favorites, but that doesn't mean there could be great rockers in CD that we don't know about and that could appeal a lot of people hungry for some good ol' rock. Maybe not Axl faves but maybe they will appeal the general publicoh and btw, I thought Slash's AFD favorite was always Paradise.. I remember reading an interview a long time ago where he said it was his favorite cuz it represented everything that he thought GnR was about.. and he liked playing it live cuz the audience was so energetic and there was a great mood overall at the end of the shows.. but he didn't like SCOM at the beginning cuz he felt it was sloppy but he dig it in the end after realising what a great response had that intro in people and how much of an anthem it became for the band

titchy000
I remember before the UYI records were released that a bootleg now known as unwanted illusions was doing the rounds, off that bootleg only only 4 or 5 songs ended up on the UYI records, i reckon it couuld be same with some of these recent leaks not all will appear on the next record imo
sweetness
Bottomline: The message here is simply this, just because Better is Axl's favourite song doesn't mean it's the best song on the album.BingoI think its very overrated because its a CD leak, but we'll have to hear the studio version before makeing further judgements. MaoAxl
Tommy Stinson was asked about "Prostitute" a few years ago, and he said it was as good, if not better than, "Sweet Child O' Mine". Take that for what it's worth. Anyone else who's had the privilege of hearing it as been similarly glowing."Better" itself is a great tune. It will get play. If nothing else, the morons at the radio stations will hack it up (like they did with November Rain) and come up with a radio friendly version comprised of just the two "easy listening" segments. EccoTides
Got a source on the the Tommy quote? Just curious, as Prostitute intrigues me the most out of all of the new songs. As for Better, we'll see - As others have stated, one can have "favorite" songs while acknowledging other songs to be the best on a particular record. For example:My favorite song on UYI II is Yesterdays... but the best song on there is Civil War. All in my opinion, of course.
F*ck Fear
Let me say this. I love all the songs we have heard, wether it be from a leak of live tracks with the exception of Silkworms. Now if the album has more songs the quality of Better,The Blues,There Was A Time etc,I will be one happy mother fucker. Just need a few more rockers in there.
