swlabr
I'm thinking of getting a Washburn (awaiting Quadlaser's pm). I noted that most guitars have an Alder Body and things of the sort. But the one I want is "hardwood". Is that any good? I don't wanna get a guitar that sucks.Discuss.

santana
The wood used to make the guitar should depend on what sound you're looking for. I can't recommend one type over another, because it's all a matter of preference. But to give you an idea of what you can look for, here a website that gives a pretty good description of all the common woods and their tonal properties:http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/columns/the...tone_woods.html

Slash 20
I happen to like Mahogany bodies and necks with maple tops (les pauls). I find that I like the sound better than alder. ALder is generally lighter but in my expeirence with my washburn bass, chips waaaaay easier.
