the song is almost a carbon copy of aguilara's "fighter", it's still not bad though

wait when was Aguilara's "fighter" released? oh yeah... 2002 on the album "stripped", wait a second when was IRS first recorded/ created... well if what the date on the leak is correct this was recorded in 1999 and by the take it was first recorded then, that doesn't mean it was probably thought of/created earlier.

but nice try to bring the song down relating it to Christina Aguilara though.

Axl has always wrote in a straight forward manner, why should he change now? I like that he's that way, skip the b.s. and gets to the point.

By the way IRS and Better are awesome songs minus the intros, drum machines = yuck

i didn't mean they ripped it off buddy, i'm just saying i've heard it before and that diminishes the value of the song. it just never felt "new". know what i mean?

I can't believe you people don't like the lyrics. Why don't you look at it as the story of GNR? I'll guide you through my interpretation:

"All the reasons that you gave

I'd followed you"

To all those GNR fans who followed the band through their long absence.

"With all the rumors I can tell,

Some things didn't work so well"

Things weren't always easy during this time, quittings and replacements, etc.

"When you first told me you were gone,

So long ago but I still head on

Through all the bullshit that I've had to take"

Rumours about the band have always been floating around, few of them with some truth. Also, after so many years away, Axl came back, yet fans are still here.

"Could've been waiting off here alone

Like a broken record for so long"

I think we know this record by the name of Chinese Democracy...

"oooh, what shall I do

If I gave my heart to you

It's such a crime you now it's true"

Axl put all his effort behind GNR. Everyone knows it and, for better or worse, he is associated with the band.

I don't think this was Axl's intention when he wrote the song. But this is the beauty of music, is the possibility for you to find your own interpretation of something written by someone else.

"IRS" is the best, but I think the lyrics are:

No-no-no.

Is it true?

What can I say or do? (What they, say of you)

Gonna call the President.

Gonna call me a private eye.

Gonna get the IRS.

Gonna meet (need) the FBI.

There's not any mortal crime in stone.<--No way (There's not anymore that I can do)

Lose it all again<--No way (All the reasons that you give)

I'm proud of you. (I follow you)

When you please release me, if there's anything I can do. (To where you'd lead and it may be the end of time, it's true)

Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong,

Gonna be the last officer I've known. (wouldn't be the last I'm sure, I've known)

And all the rumours I can tell,

Something didn't work so well.

We'll get away... can't feel... to stay. <--no way, doesn't make sense (well, anyway, I feel betrayed??

When you first saw me you walked out,

And there's a goal(?) that I can do without.

And what's with more days all over the place,

And packed a douchebag in the Wide West.

When you're out of favour I'll take,

And then your high rise/mind up has gone anyway.

And as for me now and I get stoned,

Couldn't see it coming all along.

Well it's true.

Oh.

I am... God's gift! Ooh oh oh. (I had, my doubts of you)

Gonna call the President.

Gonna call myself a private eye.

Gonna need the IRS.

Gonna get the FBI.

Gonna make this a federal case.

Gonna rub (wave) it right (+there) out in your face.

Readmit (Read it) it with your morning due (news),

The police come over (with a cheap hangover)

And the headlights too. (in the headlines too)

Robin Finck solo.

Oh Oh. Oh Oh.

And please remember it's gone to my head now,

Damn I feel it went straight up to my head. (I shoulda looked again and its somebody else)

Feel like a sombrero-me-dom,

Feel like a record out of this stone.

Feel like I'm just to tryin' again.

Feel like I've just walked in my skin.

And (as) they'll keep a-waiting on me I know,

Like a broken record for so long.

Yes I do.

Ooh, oh.

Gonna call the President,

Gonna call a private eye.

Gonna get the IRS.

Gonna me an FB-eye. (Gonna need myself the FBI)

Oooh, what's this shit I do?

You hear about.

Me making hard for me, ooh oh.

It's not a crime tonight in stone.

Buckethead solo.

Gonna call the President.

Gonna make myself a private eye.

Ooh, gonna see it in the IRS.

Gonna get me the FBI.

Gonna make this a federal case.

Gonna rub it right out in your face.

Readmit it with your morning due,

The police come over, and the headlights too.

Not getting more pissed off than you.

I got bored...there's a lot to correct, though
