adnan
Although bands like Green Day, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Weezer etc. have some emo influences, they are not emo, but pop-punk.Pop-Punk is a very different genre actually, Emo stands for emocore or emotive hardcore, and is an offshoot of hardcore punk music, with a more sensitive side, emo bands are bands like Jimmy Eat World & Fugazi. Pop-punk on the other hand is a much simpler and less intricate form of music. So, although the two styles are somewhat related, pop-punk is quite different. Guest Ohdistortedsmile1789
Pop-Punk doesn't exist, because Ramones were most responsible for the creation of Punk, and were hugely influenced by Pop themselves.

adnan
Pop-Punk doesn't exist, because Ramones were most responsible for the creation of Punk, and were hugely influenced by Pop themselves. You have a point, but you know what I'm talking about and it has nothing to do with whether pop-punk exists. There is a distinctive style of music, now known as pop-punk which is being confused with emo, incorrectly.knerken: Yeah, but by your logic, AC/DC and Elvis sound just the same, there are a lot of differences, even if the essentials are similar (the groove, etc). Rest of thread:And metalcore and screamo aren't emo either, if anything, they're closer to hardcore punk than emo. I guess a lot of people here would call me emo. I listen to MCR, Taking back sunday, straylight run, angels and airwaves, and saw all of them in concert too. But I also like hard rock and everything else too, GnR, metallica, love pink floyd, pearl jam.. I also love "pop punk" like the all american rejects new album, and relient K. I like it, and thats what matters to me. Plus coheed and cambria and avenged sevenfold are some of my favorite bands so yeahh.EDIT Also like a few hardcore scream bands sometimes, but more local ones as its fun to hang with band people!. More wide knowns are like the fall of troy. Edited July 2, 2006 by kevin
Death Star
you could call me Emo too even though I kinda am. I listen to Green Day MCR Fall Out Boy Motion City Soundtrack etc But before I got into Emo and Pop-Punk I was straight up metal classic rock and hard rock and still am. Metallica is still my favorite band and so is Guns N' Roses. Yeah.... not all emo bands are bad.

Catchy tunes and good musicians.AGAIN! You're not making the distinction. Weezer are pop-punk, just because most mainstream pop-punk bands have emo influences, doesn't mean all of them have to have these influences. Weezer use pop-punk chords and music, period. I never said they were emo, so there you go.

Maddergascar
I am of the opinion that any kind of music can be great if well executed. Bands like Fallout Boy never claimed to be the successors of the new york dolls, so stop judging them by that standard. They have always referred to themselves as softcore. They've got good songs and decent lyrics; not to introverted or oppressive, which is the only definite characteristic of the music popularly branded as emo.
