Reasons for 2002 Tour

GnR took alot of harsh criticism and jokes about their 2002 tour. Many people saw it as a failure. But when comparing 2002 to now, you can see there's a big difference. This time it feels like the real deal - that everything is falling into place and GnR is going to save us all once again. This time it seems like they are doing it for the right reasons.

When GnR toured in 2002, it was not the comeback tour or the tour to promote CD. It wasn't meant to be a failure, but certain things forced Axl to do the 2002 tour.

There are two reason I believe the 2002 occurred:

1. Axl said he wanted the band to get closer by playing together live in front of an audience. Before the 2002, the band had only recorded and rehearsed in the studio. So, getting to play live in front of a GnR crowd would definitely only add more magic to what they were doing in the studio.

2. This is the big reason. VELVET REVOLVER was hitting the music scene again. From a business point of view, Axl and Co. had to get it out there that the REAL GnR is still alive and kicking and that new music was in the works. Had Axl and the real GnR not gone on tour and did there little promo in 2002, the real GnR might have gotten left behind and forgotten in all the poo residue of VR.

3. And of course, the third reason was to recoup money the record company gave Axl for CD. In a way, the 2002 tour was used to promote and sell the greatest hits album.

So, I believe, if the circumstancs were different, in a perfect, GnR would not have toured in 2002. The current 2006 tour is the tour Axl wanted to do and is ready to do. The CD tour will be out of this world.

Wasn't the tour pre-VR? they played their first show in June 2003

VR was in the works for about 2 years prior.

GnR beat VR to the press! That's always a good business strategy.

Not really, Axl went back into hiding, VR capitalised on the publicity, The Project (which started around 02 i think, so that must be what you're referring to) was always publicised with 'GNR reforming' as Izzy was initially involved too

nice theories, but I think you are over analyzing.

they did 2002 for exactly the same reasons as 2006, and under the same pretenses.

No CD, but one in the works, same lineup, except Buckethead left so he replaced him.

the difference now is , SO FAR, Axl has maintained some resemblece to sanity, never mind ripping a hotel lobby up, and hes hanging in there.

North American tour? maybe,

CD? maybe

just enjoy it for what it is. a greatest hits tour

Axl stated in the interview before the hammerstein shows that although it helped to turn this group of guys into a band, he was talked into it.

Axl also said in a interview in 2002 i china that this was the right time. He also stated that the band including himself was ready to hit the road. in 06 the story has changed.hmm,

I think the need to get the Gn'R name out there again was quite important. Gn'R had already gone 93 - 2000 without a show. 2001 didn't go as planned so 2002 was a fresh start, that again didn't go as we all had hoped, well apart from those fans who can't wait for Axl to fail.

You could not be more wrong. But you will only look at what you want to see anyway. Obviously you have no clue if you wrote some crap like this. I Guess you know something that everyone else doesn't right?

2002, like 2006 doesnt compare to anything before 93, period. sorry.

Sure, but thats not really relevant to this, you know where to go to talk about those years

EXACTLY.

Obviously you have a point up there, dude. But its a redundant point with no upside other than flamebait.

Asshole Rose never came up w/ an apolegy for fuckin the fans in Philly in 02. Axl's only out for himself he's 40 some years old still actin like it's 92, plus he trashes the old lineup while he plays nothin but old shit except like 3 fuckin songs. You can say what u want about VR but people know they are real and not some botox freak livin of the GNR name. It's ashame that once hardcore fans have to come to say shit like this, and for those who say I'm an asshole I waited 10 years to see this band and Axl thought that the sold out Philly show wasn't worth his time. He should of cause only the major cities sold out. They were selling tickets for the 2nd Philly show for 10 bucks. FUCK AXL wait till you hit the US this year you'll be playin my local bar while VR play my local arena.. I've seen him this year in NYC and he was great but still the prick needs to learn that his so called loyal fan base has had enough. If you haven't had enough wait till you get all excited and drive to a GNR show and the cocksucker don't show up. What a big FUCK U to the fans. Hey Axl GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When GnR toured in 2002, it was not the (...) tour to promote CD.

Why was it called the "Chinese Democracy World Tour" then?

Exactly.

The Eddie Trunk Interview was just to cover himself up and not seem like the bad guy. Axl Rose messed up the 2002 Chinese Democracy World Tour and he knows it...

Although I wish it weren't true, I have to agree with you. But Axl did also mention on that show that he was/felt 'pressured into it', which would account for a lot of the shit that went on. Call me crazy, but he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who will do something if he's not really into it. LOL!
