How Do You Find A Singer?

Recommended Posts

Me and my bes friend have started a band. We have a guitarist (me) and a drummer (freind), and we have a couple options on a bassist, but the singer. I don't know how to find a singer. If you have a band, how did you get yours. And if you are the singer, how'd the band come to you?

Just talk to people and go to local shows and ask around.. Try the singers out before telling one that they for sure got the gig. Also maybe post a flyer in local music shops saying that you need a singer, what you guys wanna do, your influences, etc..

^That's what we did.. We had played for a couple of weeks without a singer, and one day our guitar-player says: "Well, I can at least try..", and suddenly we had a singer!

AC/DC started off with a newspaper ad, so there you go.

try singing yourself, you might be surprised ;) If nothing else, it means you get a bigger share of the money

Best answer so far.

For our band we had guitarist (me) , bassist and drummer all set all we needed was a singer so i asked my best mate is a great singer to sing and were all set :)

But yeah as someone mentioned earlier try getting one of your band members to sing it might work. If not place adds in local music stores and stuff like that. :)

I would follow the advice of thoses who have said to try out someone already in the band first, the primary lyricist/songwriter being the first choice since they already have a connection to the material an outside singer would lack. If this doesn't work, the old ad in the music store may work, but be sure to spell out what you are looking for influence-wise so you don't have to waste your time with people who have a different sound in mind. There are also a lot of websites that offer musicians wanted classifieds for free and I have met a lot of people doing this. Good luck.
