No one is stupid enough (or let's hope ) to burn a DVD with region codes. 99% of burned DVDs do not have region codes. They are PAL video format, but they are region free. It's very confusing and I don't even know that much about it. Region number is what to watch for when buying DVDs/burning them. Always burn as region 0, but it doesn't matter if you burn as PAL or NTSC (as this is just the video format, not the region code). PAL and NTSC are simply the format (different resolutions and frames per second between the 2 types) and the only time you need to worry about them is when dealing with VHS. VHS have formats instead of region codes (confusing, ain't it?). If it's a PAL VHS, it won't play on an NTSC player. Same with an NTSC VHS, won't play on a PAL VHS player. But seeing as VHS aren't traded much anymore, there isn't really a need to worry about video formats. There is also something to do with TV formats and what will play on certain TVs and not, but I haven't read up on this subject much.

If you do, however, get a DVD that is burned with a region code and it won't work in your player, simply search around the internet for DVD player hacks that allow you to set the region code of your DVD player (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8, I recommend 0).

Why are there regions? Money, money, money! It's the stupidest thing on earth to have different regions/formats for different countries. There's no reason for them other than money.
