Axls_Disillusion Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 There is no new song that is better than any old song.Dude I usualy respect your opinion and your posts, but this is a very stupid thing to say. All it does is show your bias. Better is well.. better than at least half of the Illusions songs, and I dont think I"m the only one with that opinion (actulaly I put it as one of the top 10 GNR tracks of all time, same with The Blues). However I dont think TWAT is better than November Rain. November Rain is radio friendly, TWAT is not.
Charles Manson Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I'm sure if you've just done a big fat line Nov Rain is fine. And it's not that the solos are "wanky" as much as they seem to be used to pad out the song which has no direction. Slash's solo on The Garden makes the song.TWAT is put together much better. It's all meshing together and going somewhere. And TWAT has a solo which has direction?it has a fuckin' 2 minute improvised bore-fest that goes absaloutley NO WHERE!!!
wasted Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 That's not true. I just listened to TWAT with these things in mind and the solo builds right up until the choir comes in on the chorus. If your listening to a live version then I dont know. But what I have is very tight, especially in comparison with Nov Rain.
Axls_Disillusion Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 The only new song that I think is comparable to November Rain is "The Blues". I like The Blues better, while NR probably has more staying power, but I think its the only track you could give a fair comparison to if you want to talk about November Rain.
wembley92 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 the new songs are just average and if they were by any other band people on here wouldnt give them time of day, everone knows the new material is weak why the fuck do you think the cd isnt out yet.sorry forgot probably being mixed isnt it.least axl knows it even though the johnie comes lately cant
mr.drummin Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 There is no new song that is better than any old song.Better vs My World.Care to change your original statement? To answer the first question. November Rain is so much better than There Was A Time.
wasted Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 I would say the Blues is more like Yesterdays and Estranged combined. TWAT is virtually a straight rewrite of Nov Rain with much improvement. And it's just getting to be a joke when people the new material not as good. IRS kicks some serious ass.

The blues is a much better song and worthy of a NR comparison. My beef with TWAT is that it is an overproduced peice of crap. You have 8 guys who are all talented in their own little ways, alll playing something different at the same time. It sounds like a bloated mess. The solo at the end quite frankly, has no melodic value and apppears to be a 2 minute minute improvisation. The Blues solo seems thought out and well executed.
wasted Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 If anything TWAT is compressed not bloated? And the solo is well within the boundaries of the song. It's not just dropped in and out to fill in time like in Nov Rain.

IRS kicks some serious ass.I dont agree with that at all. TWAT is more like Estranged pt II whlie The Blues seems to be a continuation of the type of songs like NR and Don't Cry. Catcher in the Rye has some November Rain like qualities to it as well, but the demo version is poor and who knows what 5 years has done to that song.but yes the new material is good for the most part. IRS is an amazing song that is definitely better than any of the filler on the Illusion albums.

I guess de gustibus non disputandum est...
wasted Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 There something of NR in TWAT. The Choir at the end, the solos. But the Blues is piano led. Does Axl sit down to do TWAT live?
Axls_Disillusion Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 There something of NR in TWAT. The Choir at the end, the solos. But the Blues is piano led. Does Axl sit down to do TWAT live?no, he hasn't done any of the new songs on the piano live. they've only played TWAT twice so far...
Double Talkin Jive' Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 there is not to be discussion regarding tastes
Charles Manson Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 what does that mean btwIt means "November Rain is better than TWAT..."
scottish nutter Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 What makes you think the 'studio version' will be any different in terms of quality? The leaks are more-or-less a finished product in terms of sound quality. But you're expecting them to be alot better than they already are...People still think Brain is a drum machine. Poor Brain. I find it hard to really talk up November Rain as a song. Axl's vocals and lyrics over that piano line could have made for a beautiful song, but unfortunately he decided to make it 9 minutes long and full of synthesized string arrangements, gay backing vocals & endless guitar solos. But it's still better than TWAT.i agree, for me nr was over produced, i liked the old guitar demo better than the album version and i prefer twat to nrbtw these are peoples opinions not fact so why do some of you feel the need to defend the songs you like and others dont? does it realy matter if someone likes twat better than nr?
Charles Manson Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 does it realy matter if someone likes twat better than nr?Yes
Longpig Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I like the way that (for a lot of people) if you PREFER a song - the other one is suddenly bollocks!! Anyway for my money I like 'em both - a lot - but they are from different times and is hard for me to compare. I think November the way the new band does it is better than twat, but Studio NR V Demo TWAT... it's a tough one to call. In this day and age for someone new to GnR TWAT might win, but for me NR still edges it.... only just though.LP
wembley92 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 the new songs are just average and if they were by any other band people on here wouldnt give them time of day, everone knows the new material is weak why the fuck do you think the cd isnt out yet.sorry forgot probably being mixed isnt it.least axl knows it even though the johnie comes lately cantand yet when cd is released you will most likely be wanking over it saying the material is great and better then any other stuff... you cant judge the entire album by a few rough cuts so shut up until the album comes out...no i wont be wanking over it or saying its better than any other stuff if its not because im a adult who can form my own opinion, songs are average get over it and longer they play about with them the worse they will get
Epic Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 No I don't think it is better than NR but it is my favourite of these new songs and the guitar solo/outro is fucking awesome, whoever plays it. I guess it's Buckethead, anyway, great solo.
nameless_girl Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 what does that mean btwA loose English translation would be "There's no accounting for taste."Having said that, crikey do people have odd taste - TWAT being better than NR? Riiight Completely inexplicable to me, but oh well, whatever floats your boat.
worldwideboss Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 November Rain is good live, but the studio version is kinda generic. It's overbloated and overhyped. It is also GN'R's biggest commercial attempt. To me, it is the sound of a band desperate to find success on the charts.TWAT is much more creative. Better lyrics (I hate the lyrics for the final version of NR, the acoustic version ones were way better) and overall it just sounds better. Slash's solos in NR are great, but the last part of TWAT is just as good.
