Green Day- Dookie

The modern punk masterpiece that a million bands attempted to recreate, but none even matched. Green Day became increasingly hard rock and pop rock with every album, and never really created an album that plays like Dookie.

Dookie is a furious, snotty backlash at everything mainstream. It's punk that really is almost as good as the best of what the Clash and even the Ramones produced. If what I just wrote is blasphemy according to you, you aren't listening with open ears. Green Day would have stood out even if they had arrived 15 years earlier in the midst of the punk revolution. Mike Dirnt has laid down some of the best basslines that will ever meet your ears. Tre Cool, despite a name which has nearly driven me to suicide several times, is a great rock drummer. And Billie Joe Armstrong, the horrible frontman that he is, is still- quite simply- one of the greatest songwriters in history.

Green Day are amazing, and Dookie is their best punk, if not their best album.

So if somebody has a different opinion to you then that means that they're not listening with an open mind? That doesn't sound very open minded of you to claim that! Hehe.

I can see what you're saying though in that, it's a pretty cool thing to do to not give Greenday a chance. To put them down. But I too feel they've come up with a lot of good catchy songs and Dookie is a good example of that. Imo they'll never even touch the Clash and I think even Billie Joe has acknowledged that before.

I mean, those guys paid their dues as well. It's important to remember that, they were freaking homeless when they first started the band (Welcome to Paradise is partly about that actually) and had to move to a major label because they were selling far too many records for their indie label to keep up with the demand.

In conclusion, good band.

ALMOST as good as the best of what the Clash and the Ramones did.

Opinion really doesn't matter when it comes to musical achievement. I may utterly despise Led Zeppelin, but I recognize that Page is a brilliant guitarist, and that Bonham was as good a drummer as you could find. Lots of people don't give Green Day a chance because of their maniacal teenage girl fanbase, but they are great musically. Period.
