Natywat Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I know a lot of people on here have said how awesome Bumblefoot is to answer fan requests and everything, and we all know that. But to me, I think he took it a whole nother level when he helped me out. I wrote him a letter, asking what kind of guitar he'd recommend, and check out how amazingly helpful he was:here's the original message I sent him:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------dear bumblefootI respect your opinion, and seeing as how you are a guitar virtuoso, I was wondering if you could recommend a decent brand of guitar to buy. Because I thought I'd be a bad ass, and I got a "first act" guitar from Kmart for $150, and quickly realized that you couldn't even tune the damn thing long enough to play a song. Please keep in mind that I'm horribly, horribly indigent, and cannot afford like a Les Paul or a fender...I'm just wondering if you know like a decent quality cheaper kind of guitar (and not one of those wind up ones that play a nursery rhyme either) Thanks.and he wrote back with:-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------<< Please keep in mind that I'm horribly, horribly indigent, and cannot afford like a Les Paul or a fender...I'm just wondering if you know like a decent quality cheaper kind of guitar (and not one of those wind up ones that play a nursery rhyme either) LOL! Was gonna recommend a nursery rhyme guitar, but... hmmm... a company that has decent mid-priced stuff, a variety for different styles, maybe Ibanez? There's no right or wrong answer. Whatever guitar feels good to play and sounds good is the right guitar for you (My main guitar I used for 13 years cost $180...) so I thanked him by writing:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------I will definately look into the Ibanez type. I just want something good...because I already paid $150 for a FIRST ACT piece of shit, that wouldn't even tune. I should go down to the little guitar emporium and try some out though, you're right about that. I hope they don't have a "no stairway" sign though. Stairway should not be denied. Now, for the sap: I think it's really cool of you to answer not only fanmail, but even stupid requests like mine. I'm sorry to have written you, but I just really love and respect the riffs and music you create, and I knew that if you could recommend something, it would be great quality. And because of you being so in touch with your fans, you are the absolute coolest musician in the world (yeah, even more than fortus...because you answer your mail more often) keep rockin. i'll see you in the fall (i'll be the on in the upper, upper, upper, messanaie) and he again replied:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------<< I will definately look into the Ibanez type... Checked sweetwater.com to see prices, checked your profile to see music ya dig - I think an Epiphone Les Paul might be an even better match for ya - priced from around $150 - $400... maybe check those out? (and don't forget to stretch the strings a little after putting new ones on, it'll help the guitar stay in tune better...) << Now, for the sap... Love ya too brutha! See ya in the upper, upper, upper, messanaie bbf ...yeah. a big rock star guitarist took time out just to help me out. I know it's not really "news" news, but people just don't get cooler than this guy, seriously.
f**k_your_enemy Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 It's cool he took the time to help you out.
kannon21 Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 that's awesome! hope to catch him on the street one of these days Kannon.
Son Of A Gun Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 chaw bumblefoot is the best. he 's the person you would want to have play in your band...he 's so down to earth, nicely styled and his guitaring is amazing. Gn'R shows now really sound better with him in the band than Buckethead. Because Bumblefoot is a team player whilst he can still very often show how good a guitarist he really is. But Buckethead was just like 'look at me look what I can do" and a tool with his stupid KFC Bucket, Kabuki mask and raincoats. Bumblefoot is the man rock1
F*ck Fear Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Ron is way fucking cool man. It's really cool he helped you out like that.

madison Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I've said it before - and I'll say it again - Ron is awesome. Great guitar player and cool guy. Amazing person. But I hope people don't overwhelm him with emails or he won't be able to respond to them. Remember - he has a job to do and a family to look after. So, please, be respectful and limit the number of emails you send and only send them when you have real questions to ask - such as this one that Natywat asked. Very cool Natywat.
axlsend Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 That is incredible! What a great bloke he is. You only have to look at some 'stars' and they run off crying. Ron is a breath of fresh air. Awesome.
Revolver Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 oh he is just so awesome... I wanna send him a mail, what is his address???please notice I am not a guy who sends lika a gizillion mails to him so it won't hurt to send one mail...
Axl_morris Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Thats cool how he helped you out. When your friends and family ask you about your guitar you can say that "the guitarist of GNR helped me to pin this one down for me"
rainX Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I'd rather the Bucket. But Bumblefoot tries, I'll give him that.
bax Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 He is one of the most down-to-earth musicians ever, and genuinely seems to care about the fans. I just hope his attitude doesn't change after the album and tour make him known beyond the hardcore fans. I know our access to him will not be as open, but I hope he doesn't go all out egomaniac on us.
Randy Lahey Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 I would use the word nice to describe him.

We've never had this kind of communication with a GnR member before... lets not screw it up.
