The Yardbirds with Eric Clapton

Although Eric never really displayed any proper guitar virtuosity with them, it was during his period with them that they created their best material IMO. The majority of their songs with him were irresistible blues pop rock songs which lasted about 2.5 minutes. They were so much fun at the time. Beck was good, but nothing suited him like the Jeff Beck group, and the Yardbirds material isn't his best. Page was just an odd choice for them. They were never heavy enough for him.

So, not for Eric's playing, which wasn't all that spectacular with the Yardbirds, but for the material they wrote at the time, I must say that was the best time for them.

I've always wanted to get into The Yardbirds but never had the chance. Have you listened to Blind Faith? I heard this one song that I like, just forgot the name <_<

I have the Blind Faith album. It's fairly good.

Presence of the Lord

Can't Find My Way Home

Sleeping in the Ground

are GREAT, but the rest is quite average.

Great song, you've got to credit Winwood for it though.

Winwood is the strongest thing on the whole album.

You could reasonably refer to him as a "genius". So many great songs.
