nameless_girl
This is probably a really dumb question and I bet people like Ron, Max or 'Voltage are going to snicker at me, but anyway. I use Gadwin PrintScreen 3.5 to screencap various things, but when I play video files in certain movie players such as Windows Media Player and attempt to screencap an image, the screencap preview shows up perfectly normal, but when I open up those saved images, I see that there's always a big black rectangle where the desired image from the movie file should be. Oddly enough, this doesn't happen in all movie players (I know that because I have a really godawful and grainy one that doesn't do this) nor does it happen when I screencap video files off the internet. Why?
santana
Yeah, that's how it is, but there are ways around it.If you want to take a screencap of a video, open the video in Windows Media Player and press Control+I to take a screencap. If I'm not mistaken, this doesn't work with .mpeg files.*EDIT*I just read an article about BS Player being able to take screen caps. You can download it here: http://www.bsplayer.org/ Edited October 23, 2006 by santana
highvoltage
You have to turn Video acceleration off in some files in Media player to be able to screencap them.Go Tools ---> Options ---> Performance Tab Then turn video acceleration all the way back and click OK. I don't know why you'd use any external programs like "BSPlayer" or "Gadwin" to take screencaps, because Media player and Ctrl+I or Print Screen does the job just fine. Bromle
if it is a dvd your trying to screen cap, then that is as far as I know, really hard to do. Becouse the players have piracy proteciton in it that protects the image from beeing captured.
Songbird
I use VLC Player to take screen shots. It's easier and better than any other players around IMO. You can use it to cap DVD's, video files and even streamed videos off the net.

So yeah - turn off video acceleration and you'll be good to go.
