And suggesting people boycott the shows or not buy the album to protest isn't going to "change" the way Axl behaves. He has a mind of his own - He always has and likely always will. If people don't buy the album, the label will drop him, and then he won't be creating any more new music for the fans - which means, this strategy would only hurt the fans. jmo.

THis thread has probably deteriorated beyond readibility, but I'll try replying to the first post and the people agreeing with it.

I'm very surprised at this perception of Axl. It's definitely not at all about the money with him, that's not at all where his head is at, anybody who has worked with him says that. It's almost all about the music, and yeah, throw in control (which is a biggie), paranoia, a quest for respect and all that.

There's also no way of saying that Axl is always like 'this' or Axl is always like 'that', because he goes through phases. He can pan from a quivering bundle of neuroses to a funny 'normal' guy to a megalomaniac control freak to a raging maniac.

He normally doesn't care much about sex, drugs and champagne, (okay, maybe the champagne), but he's out of his creative/reclusive (or paralysed/reclusive) phase now, and this is just life on the road (or its pre-amble). And this is exactly how he was during his Stephanie Seymour/celebrity model/high-roller phase, a typical road attitude as well. But when he split with Seymour and the tour ended, that's not how he was. And he hasn't been like that in the years since -- until now.

But most importantly, he really isn't driven by money at all, other than as a means to an end. And it really is likely that his perfectionism (and the ensuing delays) is driven by fear, that was pretty astute.

And I agree that Axl acts like he does largely because the people around him feed his behavior, everyone does let him be an asshole. I sincerely think that if everybody stood up to him, he'd treat everybody better. Of course, he'll also fire them, but a line has to be drawn. This is probably out of the fans' control, though.
