From Mick Wall's blog (28 November) http://mickwall.com/blog/blog.php :

Finally finished the story for the Mail on Sunday which I'm not allowed to discuss until it runs but has to do with a certain once 'dangerous' rock band (geddit).

Is he talking about GNR ?

Sounds like it.

Haha - also:

15 October, 2006

Spent Saturday doing something extremely unusual for me lately - working on the book and (god help us) listening to music. Linda had a friend here to help her and the rest of the stricken brood so I was left to my own devices. Had a long trawl around Youtube.com taking in all the clips of Axl and Guns N' Roses. Amazing how many clips brought back very specific memories for me - like one of Waxy standing around jawing at a club in LA from 1989 which I was actually at too, standing just behind the camera. What was so nice - and yet so shocking - was how normal he looked and sounded. Reminded me that that was what he was like when you bumped into him in a club back then. Before the long winter of discontent set in and he finally took control of everything and nothing.

Also came across a wonderful clip somebody had put together of three different performances of 'Nightrain' - the first from the tour this year, the second from the Illusion tour of '92 and the third from the disastrous comeback of '01. Jesus, talk about putting everything into 'sharp relief'. This year's clip sounded great actually - almost suspiciously so, frankly. I don't recall his voice EVER sounding that good. So much so it made me wonder if he wasn't having a bit of 'help' from the side, if you know what I mean. We have the technology, as they say. The second 'classic' era clip was best - exactly how we all remember the band (that is, the REAL band, as opposed to the faceless sidemen of today). While the third clip from '01 was totally bizarre. His voice sounded absolutely awful, like he'd lost both the top and bottom halves of his vocal register. Of course, it might have just been a bad night, but he was so out of breath it made you wonder what had caused him to 'improve' so drastically in the five years since.

Mick Wall is a fucking asshole. So this year Axl performs well on vocals, and this hater goes of suggesting Axl has 'help' from the side. If I ever was to meet this guy, I would beat the shit out of him. Someone please hack his website!!!

i doubt the artical will be anygood

The article probably won't suit Axl's taste but at least Mick Wall, unlike a lot of journalists who are writing on GNR, knows what he's talking about... He knows the band for many years.

Why let him get under your skin? If you were to do that, then you elicit the exact reaction he's looking for.

Remember dude, he's the one still writing about "Waxy" every other week on his blog, 15 years after Axl mentioned him in a song. Stuck in a rut, anyone?

...Meanwhile, Axl's out on tour banging hot supermodels, having the time of his life and drinking $10 000 bottles of champagne... Now, ask yourself dude, is it worth getting worked up over him? ;)

Well, Axl didn't really mention Mick Wall, he insulted him actually. And I am not sure Axl had even good reasons to do so... :book:

Obviously by "mention" I meant "insult" - "Fuck you, suck my fucking dick" couldn't really be interpreted any other way now, could it?

I wasn't around in the early 90's (well - wasn't old enough to be reading), so I didn't read any of the things Mick Wall wrote about GN'R... So I can't really comment on whether what he wrote merited a mention in one of Axl's psycho-babblings.

I'm surprised that the article is going to be headed for the Mail on Sunday which is a paper known to have a very conservative audience. Even so, maybe the article will through up some new perspectives on the delay and given the fact that he has been in the business for so long, I'd trust him more than what 'random girl at HMV' says.

What are the odds that this article will sound exactly the same as all of his other GnR articles, full of "Waxy" references and comments on how bad and ingenuine the new band are, talks about how great and dangerous the band were back in the days before GITR and wishes for a reunion?

Mick Wall strikes back !

http://mickwall.com/blog/blog.php

29 November, 2006

Spent the day doing the usual, then got directed by a well-meaning nutter to a Guns N' Roses fan site thingy where they were discussing me in the chat room. Hilarious! How dare I take the piss out of poor Axl. He was a great guy and I was just a shit. And a pussy. And... and... then some poor fool started to defend me. Yeah, but he's a good writer and he never wrote anything but good things about the band back in the day. Well, that's mostly true. Which is why they gave me a gold record with my name on it for GN'R Lies.

But kids, it really doesn't matter. Just ask yourself why did Izzy, then Slash, then Matt, then Duff all leave? Because they are all PUSSIES obviously. And Axl is a great guy. Why hasn't Axl managed to make a record for 15 years? Because the world is full of PUSSIES and Axl is a great guy. Obviously.

Why do I care? Because it's my job, actually. And if you don't like this little blog of mine, that's OK too. Because you are all PUSSIES and Axl is a great guy...

Kinda like how Axl can't stop writing about Stephanie Seymour all these years later. Maybe that's why Mick is so fascinated with Axl. He sees a lot of himself in him. They share some common emotional ground.

I think Mick Wall's a funny writer. I also think Axl's been on the wrong trajectory since UYI dropped. I'm looking forward to the article.

Well - first off, nobody really knows if any of the songs Axl is writing are about Stephanie. He's never said it. Some idiots that like to over-analyze everything here just assume that they are.

Secondly - I know you're just out to shit people off, but for the benefit of the stupid half of the population here, i'll just point out that there's a big difference in the relationship between Axl and Stephanie and Axl and Mick Wall. Common sense will tell you which one should have the lasting impact on someone's life.

I find Mick Wall amusing - but I spend more time laughing at him than with him. In fact, the only "common emotional ground" I can see between Axl and Mick is that they're kinda washed up. The thing is, Axl seems to realise it, whereas Mick Wall remains as pompous as ever.

EDIT: I'm touched he cares enough about what people think of him to mention us in his blog. Just reinforces my last point. :)

they both have serious character flaws but the crucial difference is, one is doing it and the other is writing about the one doing it. however pathethic the first gets, the second will always be worse.

i have had professional dealings with mick wall and he's a nice enough guy. good writer to boot.

however, like many in the music industry, he can't let it go and reckons it was all better in his day. he should have had the sense to get out years ago and maybe now he'd be earning a decent living, being positive about something rather than scratching around moaning about the good old days, and how important he used to be.

and as for that gold record - that'll be a record company flack wanting to keep mick sweet. has nothing to do with the band. hell, i have a platinum one with my name on it, but i'm under no illusions that it somehow makes me or my opinion more valid... unfortunately mick does.
