fridayfan13
my recommendation is to get the Epiphone Les Paul Standard. i bought one over this past summer, and it was worth every penny. it plays great, sounds great, and looks great. for $500, i couldn't ask for anything more. if your a gnr fan and cant afford a Gibson, buy this ASAP. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epi...itar?sku=518341
Stiff Competition
as far as epiphones go, the ace frehley signature model is arguably the best one out there...it's a little mor epricey though and you can even get some of the cheaper gibsons for less

Graeme
I've got the Epi triple humbucker Black Beauty and love it to pieces. I was going to get a blue standard or a white custom but decided on the BB for the sheer quality of its tone. Pick it and you won't go wrong but a standard and a custom are pretty nice too
young_person
Well, I have the Les Paul standard, and it's great! The tone is wonderful, it has a nice narrow neck, and it is a joy to play!

KBear
One question I have is how do you know which LP to get? I'd love to learn to play a similar style to Slash. Will any LP be suitable for that?I'm just learning now on an cheap Yamaha acoustic. Eventually I plan to buy a nicer acoustic (got my eye on the Ibanez AEL20E - this thing looks gorgeous!) and a nice electric.Electric I'll probably get an Epiphone Les Paul 1956 Goldtop (love that colour). Others to consider are: Gibson Les Paul Studio (bit pricey though), Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Custom (Silverburst), or an Epiphone Les Paul Standard.Guess I better start saving up! Raw Power
Epiphone makes pretty decent guitars. Great for starters. Just try to avoid the cheapest models like special, 100 etc.
