Guest Apollo
Haha, since you all know I'm a die-hard Axl fan and a so-so Slash/Duff fan . . . . just so you know I can be objective and don't just lap up anything Axl does . . .I've always thought IRS was pretty catchy. And LOVE the scream at the end of the song. And he totally nails it in concert. But the thing that suprised me the most about it live, was in how CHEESY the lyrics really are.All the new songs have really cool lyrics - Blues, Madagascar, CITR, Twat, Better. But IRS's main chorus is pretty cheesy. And unfort - in MY OPINION - it sounds really, really bad live. The guy behind me said "that's pretty f*cking weak" and after thinking about it, ya, he was right.Gonna call the presidentGonna get myself a private eyeGonna need the I.R.S.Gonna get the F.B.I.Well, I always post pro-Axl stuff on here. So I thought I'd throw something out that I didn't like.I think releasing IRS as an opening single would be a HUGE mistake.
Ridin' the Nightrain
I can't stand the high pitched vocals at the start and stuff. I like Axl being raspy, not poppy. It just ruins an otherwise good song for me.But, I think the chorus is really good. Cheesey lyrics? Yes, but still..Edit: Disregard rest of my post if you saw it, it's late and I was out of it. Haha. moreblack
IRS as a single? That's not really the plan, is it?I say do it like Zeppelin. Don't release any singles. If people wanna hear a song, they gotta hear the whole album.
rockstar81
I was blown-away when I heard it Live. IRS is one of the best Rock song I have ever heard. Edited December 26, 2006 by rockstar81

I love that song! My favourite song at the moment. It really blows me away, i cant wait till the albums out. RELEASE THE DAMN THING AXL
Guest Apollo
Moreblack . . . . ya, I actually agree with you. That would be cool. Dont release a single. Let the radio stations pick what songs they play. Singles play so much in the success of an album. OFten the best songs are never released as a single, so the general population doesn't get to hear them. I agree - don't release a single. Just put out the album and see what happens.Rockstar and forever . . . . are you serious?Don't get me wrong, the song is cool and catchy.Put hearing Axl scream "gonna need the IRS, gonna call the FBI" . . . . how can you think that's the best rock song you've ever heard?Quite possibly the cheesiest lyrics Axl has ever written. What the fuck, he left out "Gonna get my tax accountant . . . . and call Dog the Bounty Hunter" . . . . The rest of the song rocks. The chorus just sucks lyrically.Sounds like something Nickleback would come up with!!!!!

mr.b
Being honest, yes im not a fan of the chorus, but the rest of the song is bloody amazing, I mean jesus you dont get songs like this anymore, raw power. Axl and co. have been away too long...
Appetite 4 Axl
How are the lyrics cheesy? They may not be his best, but I really don't see the cheese factor here. I love the song though- I think it's just as good as Better. Not likely to be a single though so no worries Apollo.
jah772
I agree the chorus is a little cheesy lyrically (as it is sung its 3rd and 4th time!), and I am not exactly overenthusiastic with the simple rising chord progression to go along with the lyrics, but I really like the lyrics to the verse, especially the part after the quiet area where axl freaks out and says "I've been thinkin' you'r too (bad/good?) for my head" part, that verse just rocks.I ain't sure about the intro "uh huuuh ughh uhhhhuhh" thing. I have seen it listed as him saying "L--o-ve" which I think would be really cool lyrically, as he could be adressing one girl in particular, cupid or aphrodite, or the entire concept, but I am pretty sure he just wails. If the "love" thing is what he says, I feel like it takes the whole song to another level.Overall, it is pretty good live, I think. there are always a few weak parts, but usually it goes pretty smoothly. Guest Apollo
I like the faster version of the song. And I think the overall song is catchy as hell.I just don't like the main chorus. And I didn't really notice how cheesy it is . . . until hearing it live. THe guy behind me hadn't heard ANY of the leaks. He was maybe 40ish, and took his daughter as a christmas present. He was a fan of the band, but hadn't downloaded any new songs.SO . . . while enjoying the hell out of hte concert, I also paid attention to what the crowd thought of the new songs. This guy loved Better, thought Chin Dem kicked ass, said The Blues and Madagascar sounded like typical Guns n Roses. But he laughed at the chorus of IRS.I hope my point is coming across. Listening to the song at home or in a car or on the IPOD is one thing. But listening to it live, with thousands of people, and the music at ear-shattering level . . . . the chorus is silly. What the fuck are you gonna call the IRS for???? I just think it sounded really cheesy, really 80's hair-band ish live.
Estranged Reality
Axl can't hit the opening high notes very well when it's played live. The intro effects sound very weak and should be altered a bit. But once they get into the main bit of the song it kicks ass live. I love Robin's new solo (which wasn't on the demo). It really gives it an exasperated effect that I enjoy. It just sounds so overwhelming, and I love how Axl always kind of collapses before that solo. A lot of power behind it.I do agree the chorus is cheesy, but I like it. It reminds me of You Could Be Mine if it had been remixed with Led Zeppelin and some industrial effects. It's a nasty, vicious little bitch of a song.

At Rutherford the girl behind me said "this is the weirdest concert I've ever been to".. kind of a strange comment but I kind of think maybe it was because of the vibes at that show- it was a sunday night and the crowd were just mummies. Still I wonder what the hell she meant by that, should of asked.
Irs Better Catcher in the Twat
not a fan of this song either, live or the leaked demo we heard. very repetetive and just plain boring. only weak song of the leaks. hope it doesnt make CD. and if it does and catcher doesnt make the album that would be shitty
Axl-rocks
I wasn't a fan of IRS to begin with when I heard the song earlier this year, but then I saw a live version from a concert (forgot which one) and I was hooked.

I fully agree with you, those lyrics are almost embarrassing. Seems like he is trying to be cute with all the acronyms. I agree, it is also not a fav of mine in concert, but Better, The Blues, CD, Maddy are so damn good in concert almost not fair to compare. I wish Better would never have been leaked, cause it will take the sting out of the single probobly for those of us who have heard it.

But I think it's a nasty, vile slice of rock fusion - classic GN'R sound by way of Led Zeppelin and industrial rock. Axl's voice is just plain wicked - he really sounds diseased, in a good way. I like it, and the chorus is so simple and cheesy that it almost benefits from it - it's something nice and simple you can work out to, for example, without getting hung up on the lyrics. Just the music itself sounds nasty.
