murray_TH
Obviously, in my opinion, the Floyd are totally awesome and GNR should have covered "MOTHER", but Pink Floyd're mostly remembered for The Wall and The Dark Side Of The Moon. I love Animals too, but I just bought The Final Cut on re-issue (Animals is on my list - I had The Final Cut on tape, albeit a hookie copy that cut off the last 2 minutes - would love it on vinyl... if I had a record player... maybe I'll buy one of those USB Turntables... who knows... my options are open and I'm young and profiting since I paid off my car 2 months ago).I have, in fact, been listening to this awesome album since 1986, when I was a nipper."I'm so great"What a fantastic album. I've always thought it kind of "finishes" off the concepts in The Wall, hence the lyric in "The Final Cut":"If you negotiate the minefield in the drive And beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes And if you make it past the shotgun in the hall, Dial the combination, open the priesthole And if I'm in I'll tell you what's behind the wall"Lovely [1]I also love the poignant lyrics from "When the Tigers Broke Free", clearly about Roger Waters' father's untimely demise:It was just before dawn One miserable morning in black 'forty four. When the forward commander Was told to sit tight When he asked that his men be withdrawn. And the Generals gave thanks As the other ranks held back The enemy tanks for a while. And the Anzio bridgehead Was held for the price Of a few hundred ordinary lives. And kind old King George Sent Mother a note When he heard that father was gone.It was, I recall, In the form of a scroll, With gold leaf and all.And I found it one day In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away. And my eyes still grow damp to remember His Majesty signed With his own rubber stamp. It was dark all around. There was frost in the groundWhen the tigers broke free. And no one survived From the Royal Fusiliers Company C.They were all left behind,Most of them dead,The rest of them dying. And that's how the High CommandTook my daddy from me.Lovely [2] Beautiful lyrics, exquisite music."The Hero's Return" is the shittest song on the album, mind, although I like the quiet bit at the end. Are you with me?......bored yet???... maybe you should be...Don't worry, monkey lovers:Go here for 2 free video downloads from that album, including the original video release that came out with the album (one of my mates had it on VHS - showing my age - and I wish I'd forgotten to give it him back now!!): http://www.pinkfloyd.co.uk/theFinalCut/Anyone share my huge optimism (Not that I care too much - I'm killing a bottle of wine and feeling nostalgic - call it a slap on the back for Roger Waters thread if you will)If that doesn't float your biscuit then you can go here for some daft music:http://www.thebranflakes.com/bran/sounds.htmlhttp://www.weirdomusic.com/downloads.htm...and here's a picture of a fat domestic pet for those who would otherwise feel I was wasting their time:Cruelty, surely?Be careful out there, my friends.Okay, I'm Done. :xmasschef:

kevdo242
I love it. Although, it does seem like a Roger Waters solo album apart from Not Now John. Still great, though.
cold_as_ice
I'm infatuated with Pink Floyd from the first time I heard the Wish You Were Here album. And then, I listened to The Dark Side of The Moon. Absolutely amazing.
Roses
Thanks for that link that gave interpretations of The Wall. Very interesting.I only bought it recently, but it stunned me. The concepts of how crazy upbringing and socialisation as children moulds us into the oppressors of the future...such cool observations. It reminds me of William Blake's poetry ("Songs of Experience and Innocence") with the idea of childhood "innocence" corrupted by parents who pass their own neuroses onto their kids.Amazing also it's relevance to the Berlin Wall and Nazi/Soviet dictatorships.Sorry for rambling off your topic, but yes. And then, I listened to The Dark Side of The Moon. Absolutely amazing.Clearly the two best Floyd albums. The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn comes third, IMO.One of my favourite bands since I was a kid, thanks to influence from my father.

Raw Power
Pink Floyd is, hands down, the best band ever.. No one don't even come close to these guys, they're just amazing. Animals, Ummgagumma, Dark Side Of The Moon, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn <
moreblack
Floyd's not really even in my top 5 but I do dig some of their stuff. Animals is my favorite album.
chicagocoma13
One of my favorite albums so I completely agree with it being underrated. Have to be a huge Waters fan to make that statement. The Gunners Dream is one of my favorite songs of all time. Not Now John, Two Suns In The Sunset---all good stuff. I heard once the songs were leftover from the Wall sessions. Not sure if it is true. The album does sound like a depressing but brilliant continuation of the story. Animals remains my favorite though.

And if you're a Waters fan I just HAVE to play the devil's advocate - The Final Cut or Amused To Death?Amused to Death is on the list I'm afraid so I'll have to get back to you on that one. I do have Radio Kaos and the Pros and Cons - which are fine albums.Good to see the responses guys. For those of a like mind, take a trip HERE for lots and lots of live (mainly soundboard) bootlegs!!! MrsBrownstone
Obviously, in my opinion, the Floyd are totally awesome and GNR should have covered "MOTHER",I love Floyd, always have. I love the way VR covered "Wish You Were Here", totally awesome. I'm not sure I agree with GNR covering "Mother", I don't know if Axl could get the range down. But I do hear an awesome rendition of "Vera", which in my opinion is one of their greatest, yet underrated, songs.

Didn't Slash play the opening bars of "Mother" during one of their live performances. Probably a regular thing, but I can't remember where I saw it. Maybe the Use Your Illusion DVDs?? Dead Flower
I love the screams. I love the desperation. The emotion and anger in the vocals is the main appeal of the album to me. It's quite dark.
moreblack
The Final Cut or Amused To Death?Well, I don't own The Final Cut so I can't say how good it is or isn't. But I love Amused To Death to pieces, so TFC would have to be unbelievably bloody brilliant to be better than it.

But I love Amused To Death to pieces, so TFC would have to be unbelievably bloody brilliant to be better than it.By far the best Waters album. I will go as far as saying that conceptually it's up there with DSOTM, The Wall, Animals and WYWH. Musically it's not in that league, but it's definately one of the best things Waters ever wrote. Love it to pieces! I'd say The Final Cut is less consistent, eventhough it's still very good. Very different atmosphere though. The Final Cut is dispair, anger, sadness. Amused To Death is...cynicism. For those of a like mind, take a trip HERE for lots and lots of live (mainly soundboard) bootlegs!!! As far as Floyd bootlegs go I'd also recommend you to register here. I got The Pink Floyd Video Anthology (3-DVD) and The Roger Waters Video Anthology (DVD) from there. Not to mention the entire Harvested DVD series, bootlegs from the Waters and Gilmour gigs I went to and a shitload of audio bootlegs.Yes, good site. I've been working on a live version of the Wall found via that site for the last two or three days. Great stuff.
murray_TH
Yes, good site. I've been working on a live version of the Wall found via that site for the last two or three days. Great stuff.I have 3 live dvd's of The Wall. - Earls Court- Nassau- Divided We Fall (Harvested)The last one is the best one. Quality-wise they're all crap though. There simply is no good quality live performence of The Wall on dvd It's the Divided We Fall one I'm working on (2.2 Gigs down, 6 to go). I've managed to play little bits of the partly downloaded files and, yes, the quality ain't the best. Looks a bit like it's been ripped from a fairly dodgy VHS source, the audio isn't too bad though.Hopefully at some stage they'll unleash a proper DVD of that era from their vaults.Have you any recommended download suggestions from the site - I only found it during last week, so I've not had a proper chance to hunt through it yet. I have so many audio bootlegs of Pink Floyd I'm mainly looking for video now. Normally I use Dimeadozen or The Trader's Den but this site just looks awesome. Normally I use Dimeadozen or The Trader's Den but this site just looks awesome.Divided We Fall is indeed from a 2nd generation VHS tape if I remember correctly. It's probably in the info file. It IS the best video recording of The Wall you'll find. At the release party of the Pulse DVD David Gilmour was asked about a possible release of a The Wall dvd. He replied that the rights and tapes belong to Roger Waters. I think he mentioned that Roger is working on the tapes, but they're not ready for release by far. And given how long it took with the Pulse DVD it could take a long time as these tapes are a lot less good source quality. They ARE working on it though. Dime is awesome! As far as Yeeshkul goes I'd say get the audio bootleg "Who Was Trained Not To Spit On A Fan?". It's from the mid 70's, full live performences of WYWH and Animals. And with the famous spitting-incident. Arguably the best Pink Floyd bootleg. As far as DVD's go get the entire Harvested series. Start with The Pink Floyd Video Anthology. Reach For A Peach is also a stunning show from 1970, as is KQED. You can find info on the Harvested releases on the bottom of this page. Thanks for that. Appreciated and cheers for the Harvested link.I'll have a look for "Who was trained..." - I have "Animal Instincts (Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, Ca. - May 9, 1977)" - if it's correctly named - and it's fairly good too. chicagocoma13
No one ever mentions Radio Kaos. The first part of the album is not that good but the last 3 songs--Home, 4 Minutes, and The Tide is Turning are as brilliant as anything he has ever done IMHO.
