and have you ever paid attention to a slipknot song? That's the hardest shit to play, ever.. it's the most techincally, precise type of music you're ever going to hear.. most bands can fuck up or be a second or two off and it doesnt matter, but if one fuckin thing is out of place in a spliknot song, it's like having a hole through your living room and trying to cover it up with wallpaper.. so don't tell me that slipknot's music is easy and thrown together shit that any jackass can play.. the greatest band couldnt pull off half of what they pull off... so maybe you shoudl learn alittle more about what you're talkin about before you start talkin about it.. maybe keep some bands names out of your mouth until you hear what they're about.. the idea of metal seems easy, loud guitars, aggrissive beats, over the top vocalist.. but when it comes to it... it's the hardest and most techincal music style there is, and the bands are becoming more and more innovative, adding full orchestra's and tons of othe rthings.. it's a genre that has more sub-genre's than anyother music in the world.. and it was all built off distortion...

Most bands are doing it for the money or the pussy.. it's hard to find a band these day's that really care about their music, and their fan's... you just gotta shop around... this is why I listen to metal.. because it's mostly underground, unless it's just rock that somebody is tryin to pass off as metal.. as most metal bands arent very populare and actually care about their music and the quality of the music, and most importantly, me.. the fan.. they care about maintaining their "sound", while stepping into other area's... a band like slipknot, for instance.. they have a "sound", that is all their own, and they maintain that sound, but also step out of the box with songs like vermillion prt2 and danger keep away.. I'm sure you'll never give it a shot, but thats what I would do... thats what I did do.. find something thats more satisfying... for me, it's bands like children of bodom, slipknot, dimmuborgir, arch enemy, cradle of filth... because it's not the same thing over and over, it's always something new and intresting... occasinally you get the shit band that just wants to play loudf and fast and it sounds the same all the time..

yeah i do agree that heavy distortion is too much. it bugs me when you cant hear individual strings ringing, its just a wall of fuzz that has some variance that comprises the song.

it's kinda hard not to copy a band that was the start for an entire genre there slick... like Rob Zombie said, blacksabbath did everything there is to ever do in metal... any guitar riff, beat, anything you can do, has already been done by black sabbath".. not to mention thats just the start of it... ever listen to therion? It's a full orchestra, and it's metal... but it's has a heavy opera sound... and you have bands like slipknot, who use beerkeg's with steel bat's, and three percussionist.. 9 fuckin member's.. need I say more? And they all serve a purpose musically.. not to mention Joey.. oh my god... anybody that knows about Joey needs to hear nothing more... and mudvayne.. who's bass player plays everything from slap bass, to classical bass, and the drummer playing off beat rhythm, and out of rhythm beats... if you stray from the mainstream pop shit, you'll see what i'm talkin about...

Trust me, the bands ruining rock atm imho are not the ones using too much distortion. In fact, most of the bands you are talking about aren't really in any more. The bands dominating rock are primarily softcore/"emo" bands (MCR, panic! and fallout boy) and secondly, trendy indy bands with ridiculous accents writing songs for drunken idiots (franz ferdinand, arctic monkeys, the fratellis etc). Actually, it;s more of the latter in the UK.

On top of that most of those bands rely heavily on drop D tuning so they are basically just playing 1 fingered power chords.

Children Of Bodom plays in droped C tuning on some songs and the vers in In Your Face is far from just 1 finger power chords so just because you play in a droped tuning it doesn't mean shit. But you guys probably talked about Nu metal bands and your right about them because thay suck

and again, Slipknot's not about being fast.. it's about being aggressive, sure.. but they're not even almost the fastest metal band around, by any comparison, maybe yous houldnt pigeonhole a band based on teh opinions of your friends or a song or two you heard.. lisdten to a few different songs from a few different al;bums and get a feel for how teh band has progressed, because slipknot is a entity in it's self.. it's not even about the band member's.. slipknot is a band in every sence of the word.. the member's dont even like each other anymore and never hang out outside of the band but they stay together because of the music, and because of the fan's.. because when they trie dto break-up, the fan's cryed out for them to get back together, and so they did.. every original member, not well, ya know.. what you have here with GN'r.. they did it not because of the money or anything, othe rthan the music and the fans.. and from mfkr all the way until the latest album, it's always growing and always transforming into something different.. slipknot can't even be labled as a metal band in all honesty because it's such a mix of so many things... but you'd have to smarten up to see that..
