Lithium
I want to buy a antivirus/antispyware for better protection of my computer, and I was wondering if anyone with knowledge about this could recommend me a good program.Thanks.
highvoltage
NOD32 By Eset is great Antivirus software. Compact and unintrustive - it wont take control of your computer like Norton, and it will still provide you with protection that's just as effective. As for AntiSpyware... the free programs seem to be better than the paid ones. Most people use either Spybot S&D, AdAware or Windows Defender. All 3 have their strengths and weaknesses and wind up around as good as each other. The best tool you can use is your brain. Be wary of what sites you visit and what files you download. It's pretty hard to get a virus if you keep your eyes open.
Lithium
Thanks, I'll check NOD32 out.I'm using the free version of AdAware now. Does anyone know if the paid version is a lot better?

All 3 have their strengths and weaknesses and wind up around as good as each other.I would flag up Windows Defender - on a recent test, it missed 2/3rds of harmful intrusions.Personally - AVG, top notch, and £20 for two years of protection. Or, Kaspersky. NOD32 is good, although it can conflict with Java based applications.
gnr-4-ever
''Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0'' is the best IMO.
highvoltage
A good way to judge is to simply look at the user/editor ratings for each product on CNET.McAfee:User Rating - 2.7 Editor Rating - 7.0Norton:User Rating - 3.9Editor Rating - 7.8Kaspersky:User - 5.8Editor - 8.0AVG:User - 8.6Editor - 5.8NOD32:User - 9.1Edior - 7.3I usually pay more attention to the user ratings than the editor ratings - results come from a wider pool and people have generally been using the software for longer. Allen8R
i'm currently using the free trial of NOD23 and free adaware combo. NOD32 isn't available in stores where i'm from...well, there is one store, but they give you apassword rather than an instalation CD. Which i thought was weird.A8R
