Pearl Jam - Once (Ten). Probably the greatest album opener ever.

The Strokes - You Only Live Once (First Impressions of Earth). New age Brilliance

GN'R - Civil war (UYI II). Always thought that was just a swell opener, not too try-hardy like Right Next Door to Hell, but a very different song, which is really required at the start of an album instead of a full on hard rocker.

The Clash - The Magnificent Seven (Sandinista! Disc 1) A rap with lots of fun energy and a sweet bass line. Something totally unexpected. Kick ass song

Aerosmith - Beyond Beautiful (Just Push Play)

Dire Straits - Telegraph Road (Love Over Gold)

Dire Straits - So Far Away (Brothers In Arms)

The Rolling Stones - Ruby Tuesday (Flowers)

The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil (Beggar's Banquet)

The Rolling Stones - Start Me Up (Tatoo You)

some of those are just very good songs that happen to be 1st tracks on their albums, but some are really good as openers

Here are three of my favorites:

Welcome to the Jungle - Guns N' Roses (from "Appetite For Destruction")

Just simply a great track to kick off one of the best hard rock albums of all time.

Hells Bells - AC/DC (from "Back in Black")

First the bells, then Angus kicks in with one of the most instantly recognizable guitar intros of all time.

Unholy - Kiss (from "Revenge")

A kickass song from a kickass album. After the disappointing "Hot in the Shade" album (though it did have 3 or 4 good tracks), Kiss returns to their true form with this album.

Cochise - Audioslave - Audioslave

Let Me Drown - Soundgarden - Superunknown

Where The Streets Have No Name - U2 - The Joshua Tree

Zoo Station - U2 - Achtung Baby

Building Steam With a Grain of Salt - DJ Shadow (yes, it's the second track on the album but the first track is just an intro) - Endtroducing

Them Bones - Alice in Chains - Dirt

Angel - Massive Attack - Mezzanine
