some guy Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 i was messing around with my guitar and instead of tuning the the guitar a step down i tuned it a whole step up. so the top string was F and then B,E etc. i was wondering if any other musicians use this tuning, does it have a name. every note i played sounded a bit higher it sounds interesting. i hope it doesnt make my strings snap Quote
scottish nutter Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 tuning a full step down shouldnt make your strings snap, maybe if you tuned up and the strings were tighter then they may snap, you may get some fret buzz though Quote
Electric Tears Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I don't think there are much(or many? I can't get the diffrence:s) (rock) musicians who use that kind of higher tunings. But It's indeed interesting to mess around with If you want some weird tunings: Michael hedges has a lot. Keith Richards always plays in an open G. Slash(and many others) used to play in Eb. He plays in standard tuning now though. The guy from CCR has special tunings also. And there was another guy who was really good in tunings but I forgot who. Quote
santana Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 There's no special name for it. It's just a standard tuning, whole-step up. Off hand, I don't know anyone who uses that tuning on a regular basis, that's something that most people would use a capo for. Quote
Paranoid Android Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 i keep my acoustic guitar tuned to open G. Its so much fun. I like to pretend im pink floyd when i play. Quote
James Bond Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I don't know of any players who use that as a regular tuning, although Alex Lifeson uses that tuning for the Rush song "The Big Money". Quote
aidlook Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 The only thing you could gain from that is getting 2 higher notes on the high E string. Use a capo on the 2nd instead. Quote
