Black Rebel Motorcycle Club*Peter Hayes-Vocals, Guitar*Robert Levon Been-Vocals, Bass*Nick Jago-Drum kit, PercussionBlack Rebel Motorcycle Club is a garagerock band from California. They are known for mixinggenres like blues, soul and folk into their music. Which makes their sound very distinctive. (2001) *Take Them On, On Your Own (2003)*Howl (2005)*Baby 81 (2007) Where To Start:I just love their newest album. Raw Power
Sandman: Read my first post. Try not to just mention bandnames. Tell us alittle bit about the band, and why we shouldcheck them out etc.Anyway, more rock'n'roll! Most people may know of this band but I feel that they havesort of been forgotten. Free*Andy Fraser*Simon Kirke*Paul Kossoff*Paul RodgersFree was an English rock'n'roll band from the late 60's and early 70's. I guess most people know aboutthis band, but its one of those bands from this time periode which has sorta been forgotten in comparison to other bands. You may Paul Rodger as Freddie's replacement in Queen aswell, but Paul is without doubtone of my favourite vocalists, he's voice is just amazing. Anyway, this band plays good bluesrock, but manypeople consider Free as one of the first hardrock bands. If you like bands like Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, and that kind of classic rock'n'roll you should check these guys out. Discography:*Tons of Sobs (1968)*Free (1969)*Fire and Water (1970)*Highway (1970)*Free Live! (1971) (live)*Free at Last (1972)*Heartbreaker (1973)Where To Start:They have released a great Best of Album, "The Free Story," which was where I started. All their greatest songs, its one of the greatest best of records ever, IMO. Anyway, If you don't like Best of Records (I know many dont) I woulddefinitely start out with the Fire And Water album. Most of you have probably heard their hughe hit "All Right Now."

Raw Power
Thank you Morrison. I've never heard of them before, I'll check them out sometimes in my sparetime. Again, a very well known band, which isnt mainstream so a few people may nothave checked these bands out yet. The Smashing Pumpkins*Billy Corgan*Jimmy Chamberlin*Jeff Schroeder*Ginger ReyesThe Smashing Pumpkins is an American alternative-rock band. They are one of the major alternative-rock bands of the early 90's periode when many alternative bands grew strong. With elements from metal, gothic rock, punk, psychadelic rock, and later electronica they have made a very distinctive sound. If you appreciate alternate music and don'tlisten to these guys, you've missed something hughe. Discography: *Gish (1991)*Siamese Dream (1993)*Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995)*Adore (1998)*Machina/The Machines of God (2000)*Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music (2000)Where To Start:Obviously I'll recommend my favourite song by this band, which is "Bullet With Butterfly Wings." Some of the strongest tracks among these 2 albums are Love Whip, Baby You Know Who, Psychobilly Freakout, "D" For Dangerous, Wiggle Stick, Nurture My Pig and Livin' On The Edge Of Houston. Deffinitely worth a listen, that is, if you can find their albums anywhere!
Zion
TYPE O NEGATIVEType O Negative is a band from Brooklyn, New York. They are notable as one of the earliest successes in the goth/doom metal style, complete with distorted guitars, frequent keyboard use, and the low, operatic vocals of Peter Steele. In addition, the band shows a variety of non-goth influences, such as The Beatles (sometimes referring to themselves in jest as "the drab four"). Despite a dramatic lyrical emphasis on themes of sex, romance, depression, and death, the band is also known for an irreverent and self-deprecating sense of humor. Their popularity grew in 1993 with the now-legendary album Bloody Kisses, which featured the provocative underground hits "Christian Woman" and "Black No. 1 (Little Miss Scare-All)". Their most recent album is 2007's Dead Again.Members:- Peter Steele - Vocals / Bass- Josh Silver - Keyboards- Kenny Hickey - Guitar- Johnny Kelly - DrumsDiscography: * Slow, Deep And Hard (1991) * The Origin Of The Feces (1992) * Bloody Kisses (1993) * October Rust (1996) * World Coming Down (1999) * Life Is Killing Me (2003) * Dead Again (2007)Where To Start:Each album has it's own distinct sound imo,so it's hard to say where to start. The 91 and 92 albums are a little more raw. My personal favorite album is October Rust. The 93-07 albums are all well worth the price. For a newcomer I'd say give any of the following tracks a listen:Black No. 1Christian WomanLove You To DeathHauntedWhite Slavery
Powerage5
Bruce DickinsonThe Maiden frontman has covered everything from classic rock to progressive to 90's metal.Members:Bruce Dickinson - vocalsAdrian Smith - guitarRoy Z - guitarEddie Casillas - bassDavid Ingraham - drumsDiscographyTattooed Millionaire (1990)Balls To Picasso (1994)Skunkworks (1996)Accident Of Birth (1997)The Chemical Wedding (1998)Tyranny Of Souls (2005)Where to start? The place to start should really be decided by taste of music. Tattooed Millionaire and Balls To Picasso were much more classic 70's rock sytle, TM in particualr has some very Aerosmith-esque songs such as Tattooed Millionaire, Hell On Wheels and Lickin' The Gun. There were also a few softer ballad style songs on these albums, notably Born In '58, Gypsy Road and Tears Of The Dragon. Skunkworks featured almost grungy riffs with classic Bruce lyrics over the top, much more experimental than any of his other work. Accident Of Birth, The Chemical Wedding and Tyranny Of Souls are all flat out metal albums, ranging from prog metal (Gates Of Urizen, Darkside Of Aquarius) to thrashy metal (The Road To Hell, Abduction, Killing Floor and Soul Intruders). The Chemical Wedding also seemed to be the basis of modern Maiden, featuring several songs that are epics, and the use of drop tunings (King In Crimson is actually played with the bottom 3 strings tuned to a bass!) Tyranny Of Souls is where I started, but only because it was all that was available when I got into Bruce. IMO, Tattooed Millionaire is the best starting point, as it features the best songwriting Bruce has done since early Maiden.
Guest knerken
Danko JonesPretty well-known to many of you, but not to all I believe. This canadian trio plays hard rock with a twist of punk. After releasing a few EPs, singles and a complication of early recordings, demos and b-sides, they released their real debut album Born A Lion in 2002. They followed the album with a tour in Europe and Canada. In 2003 they released the album We Sweat Blood which is a harder and tighter sounding record than Born A Lion. They toured heavily in 2003, -04 and -05 before they released a new album in 2006 entitled Sleep Is The Enemy. Where to start: Check out the songs She's Drugs and First Date from Sleep Is The Enemy, Lovercall from Born A Lion and Dance from We Sweat Blood.Enjoy Edited June 27, 2007 by knerken
