people enjoying it! IT"S SO EASY, EASY...

to be honest the press comment about the crowd leaving in droves is totally untrue, yes some people left, only to return again especially during Sweet Child O' Mine . And much of the crowd loved it (the show), as seen here.

Don't kid yourself that people weren't leaving because they were. Sure, the rain contributed to people leaving but the predominant reaction of people around me was ambivalence at best, and at worst, hostility. You can come on an hour late to your own fans who are sympathetic to such habits, but people were getting pissed off waiting, which started the booing and Axl name calling. From where I was stood, close to the big bar on the right, the silence that greeted the end of each song was deafening... What a shame that was as the performance was very tight; Tommy played a blinder, and DJ Ashba clearly helps fill a Slash sized space. Sorry - a track I always felt so so about - sounded really good on stage.

No one should be surprised about the organisers pulling the plug either; the threat was well documented. Roll on the O2...

People move at festivals all the time, Did I walk out of the Kieser Chiefs a couple of years back 'cos they were crap? No, they don't float my boat and wanted to see the Stranglers instead. This means nothing, its news when people walk out in droves at a GnfR show, except they don't.... :sleeper:

Next time you should see the "Kaiser Chiefs" rather than the "Kieser Chiefs" - they may have been more enjoyable.

When people leave at festivals, they tend to go on their way rather than boo and call the singer a cunt. Just face facts. I've seen every tour to the UK since '91 and been been to loads of festivals, and I've never seen a band treated like Guns were last night (sadly).

  3. March 6th looks totally dead, but the news/ rumours emanating i.e. Bumble/ Frank finishing recording and World Tour 1st leg being announced can only be good news for CD. My guess is that Axl/ band realise that they only way that they can can redeem themselves now is to announce a firm date and perhaps the track listing/ first single as their next step. They are probably playing around with only 2 or 3 dates which are probably down to commercials i.e. launch campaign, distribution plan etc.

Naysayers who claim the album will never come out are off the mark and will be proved wrong.

  4. The original post is a good one, and like I've said before, management are very quick to shut down the Tommy bass throwing incident, or rebutt EODM claims but don't have the balls to make a statement on CD. The silent launch before Christmas is possible, but I feel sure that someone somewhere would have said something.

By the way Estranged Reality, I hope your sig is ironic; how on earth can Chris Pitman be the 'heart and soul of Guns n Roses'? I think the anus is more appropriate :)

  5. I'm surprised that the article is going to be headed for the Mail on Sunday which is a paper known to have a very conservative audience. Even so, maybe the article will through up some new perspectives on the delay and given the fact that he has been in the business for so long, I'd trust him more than what 'random girl at HMV' says.

  6. The number of posts of people quoting record stores became out of control quite some time back. It is apparent that folk in stores have no more access to decent CD intelligence than most of the people on this forum i.e. none. I also have to question whether someone in some bumfuck town in the US, Norway, South Africa, or yes, the UK is really going to have an exclusive on the date. The likelihood is that they are regurgitating something from this forum - and, if someone quoted in a record store does get it right, then it will probably be down to luck not judgement.

  7. :book: this is a crucial time for the gnr community who actually still believes that this album will drop this year, i'm still on the fence myself. This is a mega venue for axl to let us know what direction he is going with this thing and whether or not another year is about to be history for this record. Axl loves NY, you would think that is he were to rant and speak about this record it would be there. i hope he says something very promising and reassures us fans that indeed it will be out this year. i hope before Nov. 24, becuase i got Club seats for the show in cleveland. can't wait!!!

anyways, what do you all think about my "newbie" theory, or the lack of, whatever.??!!..

There seem to have been so many missed opportunities to announce but I agree that this would appear to be a big platform to tell the world that CD is coming. The heritage of the venue and Axl's love affair with the city are persuasive reasons.

I personally would like to see a leak force managements' hand, i.e. they know someone is gonna put it out and are therefore forced into making a proactive announcement.

Most of the official stuff or comments emanating from the band still points to this year, so I'm not going to believe 2007 unless they say otherwise.

  8. For those going, or went already to a GN'R concert.

How do you feel, felt knowing it was closer?

Were you nervous, anxious, going nuts.....

I'm going to see them 3 times next week and it sounds just unreal.

I feel nervous but, kinda like when you go see a hockey game.

You want to see your team perfom a good game, I feel the same about a GN'R show.

I think it's gonna be a long fucking week!!!

Seeing them 3 times in the same week? Given the replication of the setlist, you could have gone once and saved yourself a sh*tload of cash :)

Seriously, the first time you see the band is special and despite the arguments on this forum, the raw power of those songs is still better than 99% of anything else that's out there. Wembley on the recent tour was my 6th time at a GnR gig, and my anticipation was still as strong as ever. Enjoy.

  9. 'all dozen slayed, every chance, one given, dont ever spin ,just say what we had*'

    sounds more to me like

'all cautions made, every chance was given, no effort spared, to save what we had'

i duno mayby im jst crazy

Spot on, I definitely heard 'no effort spared' as well. The guessed lyrics sound like a non-English speaker giving an approximation of what they think they are hearing.

Overall, the checkmate clip is tantalising, and sounds like a good solid GnR rocker. I don't care what the title is, but if it lives up to the 16 second teaser then we are in for a treat.

  10. Maybe one of you winey cry babies can sue him. That would make most of you feel better.

Nope. I think that Del James should be put in medieval style stocks and pelted with rancid tomatoes and other assorted rotten veg by members of this forum outside MSG, until he agrees to issue an unreserved apology :P

  11. no...

Wow, what a shock! I wasn't at that show so I can't comment. I guess going to two Hammerstein shows doesn't give me the right to speak. Oh fucking well. That setlist is short!! They have now started cutting songs? I know we are not gonna get 3 hour UYI shows anymore, but this is nuts. If you call yourself a Guns fan and can say you would truthfully be happy with that set, then bless you. If they pulled that shit in MSG, not gonna fly.

To anyone who says its short cause of curfew, come on now. If thats the case, then don't go on at midnight!

Totally agree. The photo of the extended setlist on the official site feels like their way of discreetly saying 'okay there is more than what we've done so far'. which is a far cry from the 'fuck you we'll play what we want' message that is coming out simultaneously.

Sure, there maybe people on the board (myself included) who look at each concert listing and feel that it would be good to shake it up a little and play new stuff as a means of getting people primed for CD. However, to then rant on them for supposedly not going to the shows is ridiculous - why then set up pre-sales for the two forums under scrutiny? Boardmembers are in marketing terms, 'low hanging fruit' for ticket sales and given that some of the shows are not even sold out perhaps vindicates people who have stayed away because they realise they are not going to get anything new.

Mr James: I paid my money to see the shows; I patiently waited for the band and took pricey cabs home when the setlist overan and I couldn't get public transport back to where I live; I indirectly finance your lifestyle = I'll have my fucking say on the show and the set whether you like it or not.

PS - so much for professionalism, Bach had to finish the (otherwise great) curtailed show that I was at because Axl was hung over :)

  12. I think Robin honourably deserves the nickname Jesus for his appearance and all his hard work rock3

How about it boys and girls? "Robin "Jesus" Finck" rock3

    or lineup wise...

    Axl

    Bumblefoot

    Jesus

    Richard

    Tommy

    Brain

    Dizzy

    Pittman

Well maybe Jesus can stop playing his guitar and go back to delivering miracles... Mind you, raising the dead and turning water into wine would pale into insignificance next to being able to deliver CD before the end of '06.

  13. :)

Leigh Rok - okay, so Coldplay haven't influnced GnR but they are a band that can be considered to be breaking big on a global scale... :)

CD - I did acknowledge that true success cannot be exclusive of cracking the US, however, I personally think that numbers alone don't tell the full story. There are some crap albums that have sold well and shifted large amounts of units, but is that the only measure of success?

  14. Let's look at global album sales. 7% of global sales are in the UK and 40% in the US. The UK isn't a significant market, so unbunch your panties and get over it.

You may think it's arrogant that the CD will be judged on it's sales in the US, but that is the reality. If CD sells poorly in the US, it will be considered to be a failure. David hasselhoff's music career failed in the US but he's a big star in Germany and their market share is the same as the UK's. In rock music, you haven't made it till you've made it in the US.

Statistics support your case, and indeed no band can be considered to have made it until they have cracked the US. That said, the UK has punched above it's weight for the history of rock and roll and on the basis of the trends that have been kicked off here(60s, mod, punk, numerous indie movements, NWOBHM) , and the bands that this country has produced (Beatles, Stones, The Who, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, Coldplay etc). All of the above have influenced GnR, and these influences are clear if you listen to AFD, Lies, or UYI.

The UK remains musically significatnt, and will continue to be a thought leader and innovator for popular music irrespective of absolute sales or ww marketshare.

    Case closed.

  15. Did anyone else think the comment "the album Sebastian Bach can't get out of his head" was intended to be tongue in cheek?

As if anyone on the face of the planet gives a shit about what Sebastian Bach likes (I'm a long time Skid Row fan).

That's kinda like reviewing the new Britney albums with a line like "the album Donnie Wahlberg can't get out of his head."

Very funny and good point. I've rarely heard him being negative (or even objective) about anything let alone anything to do with Axl 'Seb Bach's ticket back to success' Rose. My heart sank when I read his ringing endorsement for the new album; I'm also old enough to remember his excitement around the UYI timeframe for Right next door to hell.

I was a Skid Row fan too, and fondly recall them lighting up Wembley Stadium on that day in '91, but deferring to him for opinion on the album doesn't give me confidence.

I'm not surprised he can't get that album out of his head, afterall, it's not like there are loads of brain cells competing for room :)

  16. This Tuesday would be nothing short of breathtaking. Given that people on the board have pointed out that the album needs to be mixed, burned to various formats, distributed worldwide, and resellers notified, then someone would know something and squeal.

The side issue on promotion is completely mystifying. Why would anyone spend $13m on an album and not promote it? Either the record company has said no more cash (unlikely), they are keeping the campaign under wraps until they have a date (possible) or they have made a monumental f**k up and genuinely are not going to do anything (unfortunately believable).

Landing an album on shelves with no promotion is fine for a low key release i.e. a live album, but for a major comeback, potential buyers (not folk signed to this forum) need a hook or reason to buy, er... like a s**t hot single and some PR excitement. Sure, the very nature of the album being released will generate a media scrum, but then people will be influenced by reactive stories from journalists and not proactive communications from the record company/ band.

  17. I think all this tuesday stuff is about the day they will set the release date, not that the album will be released in a tuesday this year..we'll see it in the stores in 2007,but the announcement must be in a tuesday till the end of 2006.

Hey dude, can you save me the roach?

    A8R

That is a genius line. Very funny indeed.

  18. Im really beginning to think that there is absolutely no way this album is going to be release in any sorta "conventional" way. Nothing about this album has been usual. Nothing about Axl is usual. Why should the release of the album, single, and possible video be any different.

I wouldnt be at all surprised if the single and album dropped the same day. We'd be lucky if we had a week's notice, if that.

    Time will tell.

Exactly. The whole thing is becoming tiresome - I'm almost as interested in the how and when the announcement is going to happen rather than actually getting my hands on the f**ker.

The leaks and European tour built some momentum amoung the loyal fan base, but the lack of a credible single to trumpet the fact that the band is back, plus the rushed feeling behind the album (after more than 10 yrs), is a publicity disaster. The post mortem on the launch will be an interesting process... Some major opportunities have been missed i.e. MTV VMAs.

Then again, AFD worked its way up through word of mouth and being on playlists - the quality of material spoke for itself. Let's hope that CD can do the same.

    VMA's

    your life awaits you....

Well, I left school early in Sept 1991 to pick up both UYI CDs on the day of their release which was the last time that we had a full compliment of new material. Since then I've been to three universities, worked for 4 companies, travelled to all four corners of the globe and will soon be married...

CD awaits me... and soon I hope :)

    VMA's

Not sure why Axl would be going to the VMAs if it wasn't to use the platform to make a major announcement/ perform. People talking about lack of publicity seem to forget that large scale events are used to make big statements i.e. CD date, and perhaps a run through of the first single (Better would be the most logical one). Once the news is in the public domain, the huge publicity machine kicks in...

If he turns up and only presents and award, then I'd suggest that it is a missed opportunity to tell a huge audience that GnR is back.

  19. I went to the last show at Wembley Arena in London and it was awsome! I don't mind in the least waiting for the release of chinese democracy and I don't care a less about parting with money to see G N R even when a new album isn't on offer! I just love em! Been a fan since I was a teen (I'm now 32!) went to the totally OTT excellant concert on 31st August 1991 when they were backed by Skid Row and pissed off the local council big time!! It was and still is fantastic to see Axl live, he gives us fans a show worth every penny. Slash is missed especially during sweet child of mine in which his rifts are the selling point but I still loved the show and when Axl came on whistling patience me and my mate went wild!!

When I saw the original GnR at the stadium in 1991 they were touring use your illusion BUT the actual album wasn't released until over a month after the concert in the UK, did we care? Did we fuck! Part of GnR is the way Axl does what he pleases and sod every one else, he was charged thousands of pounds every 15 minutes after 11pm he went on at the Arena but did that make any difference to him? Not a bit! He started our concert at gone 10 then carried on til gone midnight. Unfortunatly Axl wasn't well at the date I went to and couldn't manage the extra numbers (seb bach came on and did them) but I for one wasn't disapointed as he'd been told not to go on at all by a Dr but insisted that he wouldn't let us fans down. Axl is the best and I will continue to go to any concerts he plays here in the UK, at the end of the last one his manager said see you next year so I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that I'll be screaming like a banshee again next summer!!

    The Barmy One!!!

Nice one... I went to that show in '91 (fuck that was a hot day), saw the last Wembley show, and am also 32 :) After being disappointed with the sound at the Hammersmith show (venue not the band) I rediscovered an excitement for GnR that I hadn't had since my first gig. I look forward to CD throwing up some interesting surprises.

I was in the 6th form of school the last time they released an albums worth of their own material, which was a long, long time ago...
