  1. Hi thanks for all of your help, I'm now thinking of getting the AVT 100 (possibly the 150 depending on how rich im feeling :oS) but i was just woundering what the difference is between the MG and AVT series? why is the AVT more expensive? Cheers for all your help!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

basically its more expensive because the AVT series contain preamp valves/tubes for processing the sound, and the MG series use transistors. valves/tubes (same thing) are generally accepted as giving a better sound, especially for distortion. they distort smoother and have a much greater harmonic range, where was solid state transistors lack harmonics richness and have a wide frequency range

    this should help explain too

  2. gibsons quality control right now is shit, so many les pauls that come out of the factory need to be set up again. you definetly get more value for money with a fender strat

a strat will sound brighter than an LP, because of its longer scale length. its more versatile as it has a wide range of tones that can be accessed from the pickups, and can be used for many more styles of music - country to heavy metal (if you change the pickups). the strat has a trem bar which does come in useful, and the strat is much easier to mod because the pickguard can just be changed instead of having to cut permanent holes in the body like modding a les paul (eg coil taps).

a Les Paul will have more sustain, and have a thicker, beefier sound. they usually have nicer paintwork than a strat (eg a flame top). les pauls are more known for straight up rock sounds.

Fender have been known to have better customer service than Gibson, and the parts are much more easily interchangeable on a strat than a les paul - for example all parts from warmoth.com are made to fender spec, and you can get replacement parts from mighty mite too.

to be fair the les paul would always win the vote in a guns n roses forum due to the slash connection, but anyway there is no 'best' guitar, it's all down to personal taste and needs musically.

  3. Me and my friend Gurb have been wanting to form a band for a while, but have now decided to advertise for members as opposed to recruiting people we know, as theres so much more out there. we're looking for a drummer in the bingley/bradford/keighley area in west yorkshire to start a hard rock band, and decided we'd pick GNR as a starting point, a band that all the members like, that we can start from and develop our own style. that way we don't have to force our opinions on members, but we're pretty much influenced by classic/hard rock like van halen, GnR, led zeppelin, aerosmith, metallica etc. me and gurb have all the necessary decent equipment to get gigging, recording etc and have started to write a bit of material. we can get gigs easily. Gurb will sing for the time being until we get a proper singer, but it will be me on lead guitar and him on rhythm. anyone with ability aged around 15-18 will do, and exceptions to the above will gladly be made if you're good.

anyone interested in being part of this band, or just wanting to jam, contact me on the shredaholic message board or at contact@shredaholic.com

    cheers

  4. Go on www.shredaholic.com and look for the lessons by 'Richard Baines', you can copy those lessons and put them on your site, on the conditions that you put "courtesy of Richard Baines at www.shredaholic.com", and put our banner somewhere on the page with the lesson.

    Good luck with the site!

  5. I tried this amp out with my Fender AM Strat, loved the clean tone, but I didnt like the OD with my strat (sounded buzzy and not enough gain, but thats to be expected as its got single coils). I'm after a sortof Van Halen/Guns N Roses tone (hard rock), would this amp do the job when I get make my next guitar with humbuckers (BareKnuckle Pickups, VHIIs)? I've heard stories about how its poor compared to older marshalls, and some who say its just as good. The ability to switch clean/overdrive would be really helpful. Any ideas?

  6. Where in West Yorks? I'm in Wakefield/Castleford/Leeds area and been looking for a band that wants to do hard rock, i'm a vox.

Bingley, near Bradford. I'm lead guitar and my mate Gurb is rhythm, we're both 17. We can travel but not sure how far for practices, but gigs we could arrange transport anywhere. I bought a mic stand for my SM57 so all you'd need is a good vocal mike (SM58 or whatever) for practices.

  7. I'm in the liverpool area and me and me mates are trying to get a band goiing

we need a drummer and a singer tho

if u can do either of these i'll be interested

Same here - I'm in the West Yorkshire area and need a drummer and singer. Specifically for a classic/hard rock band, influenced by GnR and Van Halen etc. I've got some material already written and a Marshall stack, all the recording gear. We just need the members to get off the ground.

(if anybody fits the bill lol email me at eruption@hotmail.co.uk)

  8. wouldn't slash have recorded AFD before the jubilee came out? That means the jubilee may not necessarily your best bet for nailing his tone. All the resources I've seen about AFD indicate that he used a rented plexi named stock #39, which was basically the original of the 1959SLP but with a gain mod. Apparently Slash loved it so much he tried to buy this amp, and when they refused to sell it to him he claimed it was stolen so he wouldn't have to give it back. Unfortunately they found out, so Slash wouldn't have had much luck finding the guy who performed the mod, as the shop would have been unlikely to help him after that.
