  1. Hello everyone. I have been wondering one thing for quite some time. Now lets face it, with all the music today, Hip-Hop, rap, techno and gay bands like Fallout Boy and McFly, music today simply put in my opinion, is a joke. Do you think rock n roll will ever rise again? Do you think we will see huge rock bands touring the world and selling millions of albums ever again? There hasn't been a super huge band since Nirvana, sure there are famous bands out there, just not bands that will be legends and as huge as 60's-80's bands and live on forever.

Tell me people, what do you think? I, to be honest, truly don't know how things will turn out.

At the moment, Alternative Rock is the dominant Rock music since 1992.

Only an underground Rock music scene will change the scene, and it has to be a new form of Hard Rock or a completely new Rock genre.

Yeah you got a point there. Although I think there's no more rock genres left, at least not any good ones. However, Guns N' Roses are said to have ripped off 70's bands, Slash even admitted it in his book, but still they were fucking huge.

  3. Don't worry angelofdeath, some people are just fucking stupid, there's no poiint in explaining shit to them, because they clearly can't understand that it actually takes a brain to make grunge music. Anyway, this poll is fucking stupid, because it's asking people to compare between Glam Rock/Metal against Grunge which is fucking stupid considering Glam Rock and glam Metal are two completely different genres plus Glam Rock influenced Grunge (see Nirvana's cover of Bowie's The Man Who Sold The World). Also, for us to put an end to this Glam Metal vs. Grunge debate, can someone please mention a worthwhile Glam Metal album thats honestly going to be shit in 50 years time, because I'm fucking dying to know what's so good about this craptacular genre. I would also like to add that considering this is a Guns N' Roses forum, GN'R killed this bullshit along with Grunge and maybe ytou guys should go ask your favourite musicians what they like more, Glam Metal or Grunge.

You are wrong, sorry. Appetite For Destruction is considered Sleaze Rock, and it's also a Glam Metal sub-genre. Thanks to this album, Sleaze Rock bands like Faster Pussycat and L.A. Guns got success in late 80's. In this decade, a lot of new Sleaze Rock bands appeared (like Crashdïet and Vains of Jenna) and their main influence is Appetite For Destruction.

Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion albums were Hard Rock. Hard Rock was the mainstream Rock music in the 80's until 1992. How can you say Guns N' Roses killed the Hair Metal era when this band is considered from the Hair Metal era? Van Halen and Def Leppard were the most popular Hard Rock bands in the 80's, and it didn't stop the Glam Metal/Sleaze Rock scene, because they can fit in the same trend.

Back in the 80's, the Use Your Illusions albums would sell more than Appetite For Destruction. Every Use Your Illusions album sold 7 million units on the US, and Bon Jovi's New Jersey sold the same (I think we can agree the Use Your Illusions albums are better than New Jersey, but sadly these Guns N' Roses albums appeared later, when the mainstream Hard Rock scene was in the end).

I kind of know what you mean and where you're coming from, but those bands such as Faster Pussycat and L.A. Guns are much more hair-metal than Sleaze. To me Guns N' Roses, if you wanna talk about Sleaze Rock, is the only true Sleaze band, as sleaze was supposed to be an anti-Glam in it's approach, whilst retainign some of the image and having a rawer sound. That's just why I don't see Guns N' Roses as a glam band, because glam for me is more than the image. Sure in Appetite, there is some Glam influence such as Axl, Duff, Izzy and Steven having the hair-metal hairstyle (but not as severe as the fags from Poison), gang-choruses in songs such as Nightrain and Paradise City and that crappy overdubbed synth at the start of Paradise City, but I just see it as an influence only along with bands such as Aerosmith, Led Zep and the Sex Pistols. As for the Sleaze bands you mentioned such as Vains of Jenna and poo like that, if you look up what influences those sort of bands it's also glam bands (the semi-respectable ones) such as Motley Crue and Skid Row, so their approach to being inspired by something such as AFD is wrong, as they are taking it from a "wow man, how fucking cool was Glam and the Sunset Strip" instead of "how fucking much did GN'R own all those other wuss bands" POV.

Hair Metal is an era. Faster Pussycat, L.A. Guns and Guns N' Roses were from the same era. Sleaze wasn't supossed to be anti-Glam (they were in the same scene and with the same audience, fashion, lifestyle and exposure), Guns N' Roses had a more agressive sound and it was against Pop-Metal bands (Poison mainly, Guns N' Roses hated them. And Axl Rose also hated Bon Jovi).

Glam Metal/Sleaze Rock and 80s Hard Rock bands had the same 70's Hard Rock influences.

Yes, Vains of Jenna are also influenced by Mötley Crüe and Skid Row. These two bands had a Sleaze sound similar to Guns N' Roses in many songs. Appetite For Destruction is the top album for any new Sleaze Rock band.

ha you need a glam lesson

First thing, GNR, faster pussycat and LA Guns werent from the same era...Glam died when sleaze came out and that was when bands such as Motley Crue changed their sound a bit so they would survive. Sleaze and glam did not udner any circumstances have the same fashion, audience and lifestyle were similar but the fashion was no where near. If you compare the two, sleaze bands went the approch of wearing full black with leathers. Glam rock bands had the more colourful clothing style with different colour leathers and spandex.

Glam metal didnt have an influence from 70's hard rock...they had the influence of 70's glam metal with Van Halen and crew. Skid Row did always have the sleaze rock sound but all people consider them glam for their clothing approch where as motley crue were full of glam when they released their first album...motley only changed their sound a bit in the late 1980's when the whole sleaze scene came out and then almost died in the 190's with grunge but as all of them said they hate grunge and therefore they didnt change but were lucky, where as WASP didnt change and they died.

And i wouldnt call AFD the top album for sleaze, many people say that faster pussycats self titled debut album faster pussycat is also arguably one of the best debut sleaze albums of all time...AFD is only fourth best in the US of all time

Did you drink vodka before posting?

Even when Sleaze Rock started to be a success (1987), Glam Metal had a massive success until early 90's. Bon Jovi's New Jersey sold 18 million units worldwide, Poison's Open Up and Say...Ahh! 8 million, Mötley Crüe's Dr. Feelgood 10 million, Warrant's Cherry Pie 5 million, Whitesnake's Whitesnake 14 million and Slip of the Tongue 5 million... etc etc etc. From mid 80's to 1991 were the biggest years for the Glam Metal bands.

There weren't 70's Glam Metal bands, NEVER. Glam Metal bands were inspired by 70's Hard Rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Kiss, Queen, AC/DC, etc.

Van Halen were not hard rock, the were glam

    Actually they were Hard Rock.

  4. Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but i saw a website were there were lots of GNR guitar karaoke tracks, you know tracks without a guitar playing. Does anyone know the URL to this site?

  5. Rolling Stones: They charge waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much for concert tickets (seriously, Mick and Keith are each worth about $700 million, do they need to charge $150 for shit seats?), and their shows have become so methodical and scripted that fans don't get excited at them anymore.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Why do Mick and Keith cost something?
