  1. Here’s the thing: I’ll give Axl the benefit of the doubt that it was the first show, the mix/mics were bad etc.

But after being a fan of the band for 30+ years and seeing them many times…I can’t take the repetition of the shows.

Not just the setlists, but for me it’s the fucking solos. People can say all they want “I love the solos!” But just look around at a show. 90% of the crowd sits down. They always did, even during the peak years of the band. They were ALWAYS the worst part of the show. I love RQ. Love NT. The fucking solos are torture and kill the momentum. I can’t deal with that anymore. Especially in RQ when it’s the SAME GODDAMN SOLO with the mouth harp!

  2. Buffalo, ‘92. 60,000 people there, I was 3 rows from the stage. Waiting for Guns, it was complete chaos in the seats. People throwing shit all over the place at each other. Apparently a teenage girl got hit in the head with a full can of soda, was rushed to the hospital, and missed the show. The next day Slash and Axl secretly went to visit her in the hospital. I know because I had a couple friends that worked there.

If Axl's voice was up to par, all the other complaints would dissipate.

Nah, it depends on what you like to see at a show. As some people posted earlier, the jams were endless. I saw them 3 times, and went to grab a beer every time the "Layla" jam began, or Slash began the neverending Rocket Queen solo.  Bored me to tears.

Thinking about it further, you're right. Maddy, The Blues, and CD (to a lesser extent) do feel the closest to the GnR feel.

Let me rephrase:  Sorry, CITR, and This I Love feel like a natural progression from UYI 2. Like what we might have heard from the gang if they put out UYI 3 in the mid 90's. This I Love was even written and demoed? with the old band in '92.

This discussion is the entire reason why they shouldn't be playing as many CD songs live.

Yes, fans who have seen them numerous times might be tired of hearing the same songs off of UYI or AFD, but they like or loved them at one time; that's different than the wild opinions of almost every song off CD.  For example, I've seen people in this thread say they want to hear "Prostitute." I hate that song. Never liked it.  However, I do like I.R.S., and I know that comes with the same criticism. Same with TIL.  The studio version is OK, but when they perform this live it drains the entire energy of the show.

You might be sick of hearing SCOM or KOHD, but the diehards and casually fans generally loved those songs.

  5. Easy $250+ for me.  Hell, I was in my local record store this past weekend, and saw a couple of box sets Metallica and Zeppelin put out.  Price was around $250.  I'm not a huge fan of either of those bands, but the stuff included was incredible.  For a similar GnR box set, with a bunch of stuff we truly haven't seen/heard yet?  Again - over $250, easy.

The prices are nuts. No question. But why did you pay "top dollar" for nosebleeds at the Linc?  There were seats available for $35.

I went to that show. I also went to the MetLife night 2 for $25 (plus fees) because I got an email with a code since I went to a show before.

Even this past show at the Wells Fargo Center had uppers in the $50 range.

I would NEVER pay $250-275 for a ticket to anything. But there are cheaper options out there.

I don't think that's a fair criticism, though. When their tickets went on sale months ago, we had no idea how well they'd sell at 10AM on that first day. That's what happened to me for this MSG show.  I bought them at the presale (citibank, not Nightrain), and was super happy to get nosebleeds seats, because "at least I'll be in the building," and "this will definitely sell out, because it's at the Garden."  But as time wore on, I got madder and madder seeing how I could've waited.

You just don't know what the demand is when the tickets go on sale.

It’s honestly a kick in the teeth with such high ticket prices

Really?  People are bummed because there's no opener?  They've had so many shitty openers in the past. Papa Roach. Bullet For My Valentine, who I saw three times at Hammerstein, and hated them more and more each time. People just love to complain about EVERYTHING.

  8. Taking a total stab in the dark here, but does any video (or pics!) exist from their Buffalo show in 1992?  There are a few audio boots on YouTube, but that's about it.

    Thanks for your help!

  9. This is awful.  Terrible arrangement, Axl all over the place with his scream (trying to replicate his L&LD yell at one point), and just completely off-rhythm.

I think some people in this forum are way too insulated when it comes to Gn'R. I've seen them numerous times over the past 30 years.  But show this to any casual fan, and I'll bet 9/10 hate it.  "But you weren't there!  People were into it!" Well, from what I saw, people on the floor weren't dancing, and a ton of people in the other sections were getting up to leave for concessions or whatever.

Let's just call a spade a spade. This wasn't good. Anywhere. Any performance.

  10. I saw them in June of '91, on the first night in Toronto. We were tailgating super early before the show, and Slash almost ran into us on his BMX, which he used to ride around before every show. We all laughed and he said "see you guys later," and took off.

The best part about the concert was that at one point Axl was asking the front row "what song titles you want to hear," so people were blindly throwing out titles they heard of like "Back off Bitch," and they would play them.

Before playing NR, Axl told everyone it was 11 o'clock, and the last trains were leaving in a little while, but they still were going to play.

I've seen Gn'R about 15 times, and that was the one I'll never forget. Amazing.

  11. Yep- in most sane people's head this was the last Guns show. Sad but true. What a band they were. Fucking awesome.

Oh, here we go... you're calling me insane because I don't agree with your (factually false) opinion. I am the one that got over a band breakup that happened 20 years ago. I am the person that doesn't think a few musicians that didn't get to do anything really special and huge musically-wise were the be all and end all of rock music. I live my live enjoying things that I actually like, and I do not come to a forum dedicated to said band just to act like a fkn insane and retarded cupcake complaining about everything regarding the current band, hating on every band member for no reason at all, going to their twitter and facebook pages to complain about them, reaching out to them just to say how much they suck and throw stuff at them on stage, spreading false gossips online (facebook, forums, twitter, etc) and lying about them just to make sure that everybody else gets to hate them as well, threatening their families, stalking and harassing them just because they replaced your idols is, certainly, sane.

Look - I am sane. I don't do anything that I decribed above. I come to a GnR forum to talk about GnR, even if I am not as interested as I used to be for several reasons. This was not Guns N' Roses' last show and that's not an opinion - trying to alter reality just because your brain can't accept that your idols aren't doing what you wanted them to do is insane. Doing any of the above is insane. Acting like you know the truth and everybody else that doesn't agree that a fkn band breakup that took place 20 - I'll repeat again, just in case: TWENTY! - years ago is not sane is laughable, pathetic and yes, insane.

I probably will not even respond to you or anybody else again as I possibly won't even read this thread again, but I'd like to point out that those people you described as sane are, for the most part, the insane people, not those that don't agree with your false statement.

-Man, you sure are defensive. Sounds like you're REALLY trying to convince everyone. You can yell and scream and plead all you want, but this version of Gn'R is nothing compared to that performance in 1993. Keep calling people "insane," and believing that somehow this 2000-era band's music or popularity will be anything compared to that. It won't. And THAT'S a fact, too. Enjoy sticking to your semantics that this is still Gn'R, that same band that existed then.

  12. Look at your posts in here. In one you defend nightrain, in another you mention it isn't that great, and you blame it on somebody other than Axl. Your opinion often changes depending on who makes a comment.

What I have said is that the GN'R website has drastically improved under the new management but that the fan club part (Nightrain) hasn't delivered on expectations at all, although I believe most of that is groundcntrl's fault. I think I have been pretty consistent on this and I believe the reason you are confused is that you don't distinguish between the web page and Nightrain. Could you please prove your ridiculous claim that I "often change [my opinion] depending on who makes a comment"? I believe it is just you who are confused and not able to follow discussions.

The lesson here: It's always someone else's fault. Thank God there's always someone else to blame.

  13. Eddie Vedder sucks. Axl can get so much more pussy than Vedder, you or most people his age.

Eddie Vedder is married with kids so I doubt he gives a shit about that...

Anyways, Pearl Jam does some incredible things that I wish GNR did. They are an amazing band live because they drastically change up their setlist every night - according to Eddie the setlist sometimes isn't written until an hour or two before the show starts. The set is customized to where they are playing and sometimes they will add in songs because fans request them before the show or if a particular song is relevant to something currently going on in that area. Each night is different and they do so many different things that each show is its own entity and unique experience. That and they just simply kick ass live.

The fact they record all of their shows and release them as soundboard recordings for people is also fantastic, and every year they release a Holiday vinyl single to the fan club members. Members of the fan club also have special tickets you can order from the site with a special system, with a lottery that gives anyone a chance at getting front row tickets.

GNR should take notes from Pearl Jam

Exactly this. It's so cool to go on their (and other fan-made) websites, to just browse their past setlists, and see what they've played. Also cool that you can go on the PJ site and buy the show you went to; and their fan club gives exclusive merchandise and unreleased tracks to members (not just a random t-shirt and belt buckles)
