  1. I was thinking...

    1) The setlist is shorter in the South American tour because of the weather, its really hot down here, the crowd is more energetic and this reflects on the eletric performance by the band. I mean at Asia they barely moved on stage (especially Bumble) in the Rio gig they were running all the time, interacting with people, all band was on fire.

    2) They dont have too much time to rehearsal the new songs, and some of them are pretty complicated. I mean, some versions of Catcher are not that good and Scraped demands so much from Axl´s voice.

    3) They are starting the show too late.

  2. Just woke up... had a blast last night! What a fuckin´ great band!!!

Axl was all over the stage, interacting with the crowd and singing like a demon!!! Top of his game!!! The guy know how to deliver a great moment!!

The biggest surprise form me was Bumblefoot, he was all over the stage as well, running like crazy!!! And the national anthem.... beautiful!!!

Richar Fortus was possessed by a demon, the man plays with brutallity!! The crowd loved his solo spot!!!

Ashba... well Ashba is Ashba... the crowd loved the guy! Amazing player! He used bras, panties on the guitar neck and a flag around his neck... like a superhero LOL!

    The highlights for me were:

    1) This I Love, best version I heard yet!!! Axl sang it perfectly!!!

    2) Whola Lotta Rosie as well... best version... energetic song!!!!!

    3) Axl and the joints, people threw two of them on the stage.. he took it and said ''Obrigado'', funny moment!!

    4) The end of November Rain was funny as well, the band did a lot of ''false endings'' pushing Bumblefoot to do the final part for three times, everyone in the band was laughing but Bumble. At the end Axl goes ''Sorry about that Ron''

    5) Nightrain.... no need for more words!

    6) The crowd at Paradise City, at the end of the song, before the flag, there was a huge ''circle pit'' (dont know the right name, or if it is the right name), like in punk band shows. Axl went running to Tommy and pointed the Circle Pit, so Tommy went to the front of the stage and rocked on!!!! Amazing!!!

    7) The flag, I dont know how was the band reaction... was under the flag LOL!

    8) The national anthem, THANK YOU BUMBLEFOOT!!!!!!!

As for the setlist, I was excellent, I mean it was hot like hell in Rio (still is of course) and the guys didnt stop for a moment at the stage! Besides that the crowd was pleased, no one complained.

THANK YOU GUNS N FUCKING ROSES FOR THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: Forgot to mention... Pittman was wearing a Flamengo shirt... it is the most popular soccer team from Brazil!! Pittman é Mengão!!!!! Awesome!!!!

  3. Very sad to hear that the venue got trashed by heavy winds. I seen some people questioning how... Well, I do audio/video rigging and staging. I can tell you this. The stage, temporoary or permanent, is built well. What happens is the rain soaked ground gets soft and the support braces under the main stage, begin to bowe (bend) causing a lot of tension on the braces, other supports, scaffolding etc. All this shit weighs a ton. Then when the wind catches the structure, down it goes. Picture a house, with a basement. If ya have any crumbling support, it will bring down the house, literally. If the basement is built with a solid foundation, under the concrete. It is rock solid. Sounds pretty childish to explain it like this but it is the case. If it was indeed a tornado, then anyone can tell you, the venue got lucky. I remember the concert in Calgary with couuntry artist Tim McGraw. A small tornado ripped through that area and tore the staging to pieces.

I would assume, if there is a re-scheduled show tomorrow night. GNR will indeed be using the Brasilia/Belo Horizonte/Alegre stage. Smaller but it is easy to setup and there shouldn't be any damage to it, if it was in storage. That small stage can be built in a few hours vs. the full show stage that takes 9+ hours from ground to rigging.

    Again,

Glad 2 hear everyone is safe. Hope the fans don't hold this against Axl and GNR. It's one of the downsides of an "open air" stadium. Would have been a killer show. From what I've read, fans seem to be quietly disgressing about the show cancellation. Probably quite thankful they weren't in there when this happened. If fans were in the venue. It's almost a certainty that there would be fatalites.

Props to all of the rescue workers who evacuated quickly and got the place under control.

And give it up to Axl, for personally tweeting out the message to his fans instead of a sign at the gate.

Let's hope for another show tomorrow!

The fans understood the cancelation decision, only a few complains, there was nothing else to do.

  4. Axl Rose

    On Sunday 14th March 2010, @axlrose said:

RIO UPDATE: They're now saying the venue actually experienced a minor tornado. Either that or regional Global media blowing usual hot air.

    J/k !! Love, El Gordo!!

Minor tornado hahah it seemed like that!!!

For the record... it is raining again in Rio, not as strong as earlier, but yet a lot. Its a good sign, the rain should persist so tomorrow we will not have a hot day like we had today, and at night there would be no storm... just a weak rain.

  5. for anyboady wondering this is not a new occurrence by any stretch :

    http://www.google.ca/search?q=stage+colapses&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

happens alot, they balance ease of setup and tear down with safety, temporary structures are by there nature dangerous

As an admin you should not post messages like the above. Especially when you found them on the internet and know jack shit about the current situation down there. Just my opinion.

We know that the stage collapsed and have seen pictures of it. Or is it just a lie?? Ironic if you have internet issues..

There is one positive side of this scary scenario and that is Axl having a chance to rest his voice. For the first time EVER he had to sing the Better stick in a lower tune last concert.. Hope this turn out to the better in the end. I would have waited for better weather and an fresh Axl. The biggest problem now (assume no one got injured) is if all the fans are able to go to a re-scheduled concert. who were attending to this one

Indeed. I had contact in the line with some groups for other brazilian states, and it was pretty sad for them the cancelation... lets wait and see, everything is gonna work out.

  6. Back at home, read everything from my smartphone. I've managed to get really close to the venue under heavy rain but came back after Axl's first tweet. sad.gif

Axl's second tweet still leaves tomorrow as a possibility. Any more word on that yet?

    Not yet. :(

Lets be patient. Im sticking with whatever decision the GNR camp and the venue take. You know... i have a premium ticket for the show, in front of the stage, and i was very near the entrance (in the line), it is slowly getting clear that i (and thousand of people) could be dead by now. The gates were set to open at 16 or 17 hours, and they didnt opened it...

  7. Sorry Deb, but I hope they reschedule this for next month so I can get money to see they again. :shrugs:

Next month? Oh no no baby, that wouldn't be nice.

But hey, if it happens, I'll get here again.

As long as they rescheduel. Cause the security at the door were saying "get your money back" WTF?? Don't need my money back, I need a show.

That's why I'm kind of pissed. I want a certainty that they WILL be able to reschedule.

Don't think I'm not thankful no one got hurt.

Yeah that really happened, people from the venue said it was cancelled and we were going have news tomorrow about the refund, only one of them said that there was a possibility of it being reschedule.

  8. There is no way they can just put that stage back up for tomorrow without some serious structural improvements if a non-hurricane rainstorm managed to bring it down. It is just asking for trouble as there is clearly some problems in the way it was engineered. I can't see the band being eager to get out there on it until it is confirmed to be 100% structurally sound as that could have been a disaster had it happened during the show.

    I agree with you.

  9. fuck. If this would happend during the show, it could easily mean hunderts of death people..maybe close to thousands. If the stadium would be full, I think that about 3-6 thousands people would be in that arena, where is the stage now. Im just wondering which prick is responsible for this. Don't know how it works in brasil, but in Czech Republic(thats where i live) there are strict rules for every kind construction. I remeber when a local rock group "kabát" was building stage for audience of 60 thousand people. They had had big reserve in strenght of the construction but they still wouldn't get the premission to build that stage if weather wasn't good. Well, my english isnt good, what am i tryin to say is that I believe someone is responsible for this. construcetrs can calculate how heavy rain or wind is the construction able to stand and there is huge reserve for this fixed by law. somtehing went terribly wrong tonight.

Just got back from Apoteose... and it was going to be a packed show!! Fortunetely no one go hurt and people accepted the cancelation well, it was raining a lot, and I mean a loooooot, there was no way this show could happen (aside from what happened from the stage).

For the Guns camp, we really hope you can set another date in Rio, people understood the decision and what happened and when I was leaving hundreds of people were on the streets chanting GUNS N ROSES!! We hope to see you soon!

did you snag any pics of the people or anything? Also where ya from?

    Im from Rio.

I didnt take any pictures, it was raining a lot , but I saw some photographers from local newspapers taking pictures, they tought there was gonna to be a riot (justify their presences there) but there wasnt, people just went home, no problems occured and no people injured (as far as I know).
