  1. ur all talking about philly's street of dreams, then listen to this one

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu_2nY6o5C4

How does he sound great here?! What the fuck are you people on?! If he sounds the most raspy ever, even to the obvious detriment to the songs do you just think it's awesome?!

Honestly you lot are fucking mental. He sounded shit in 2010 and I haven't liked his voice since 2006. He sounded and looked fucking shit in 2010 and I can only assume it's the people who adore him having too much 'rasp' to his voice that consider it good.

2006 he had a decent balance of rasp and strength in his voice and could sing most of the songs in the back catelogue and the newer stuff. in 2010 he ruined songs, like the version of SOD here.

Obviously he'll never be as good as in 1993 (argentina for example) but 2006 was near as dammit as close for someone of his age.

  2. I don't think arguing about pitch and tone and rasp matters. He does not sound good on this cover regardless of what he was and wasn't doing technically.

And GN'R Lies you do not have a good ear if you think this is good singing. I am a radiohead fan (among many) so vulnerable vocals clearly do not scare me off, I am comfortable enough to not think it's "gay" to like emotional vocal performances.

The issue I have with this performance is that the middle range of his voice is shot, so when he is coming in and out of falsetto notes or from below to above the "mid range" he sounds awful.

I like the song choice I love the non-rasp approach but Axl does not nail it or anywhere close. He sounds good in places, but overall it's clumsy and too many mistakes / vocal issues and the overall performance is poor at best.

  3. Well estranged covers the space for a couple of (shorter) songs in the GNR cannon, and it seems like IRS has bitten the bullet of a song to remove.

If there was a problem with the setlist (other than personal preference) then I'd question the number of covers they do. 2 AC/DC covers, Live and let die, KOHD, plus countless other jams and intros and things.

I think the band/Axl enjoy them as well as a fair few of the audience, but I'd sack off KOHD and play 1 or 2 original gunners songs.

The personal perspective I have about the setlist, in particular the CD songs, is that most people would acknowledge that TWAT is one of the strongest songs on the album, I personally think Prostitue and catcher in the rye are as well, and they're not playing either.

I think the selection of CD songs they're playing is pretty weak if I'm honest. "Sorry" I've hated since day 1 and have probably listened to it 2 and wanted to punch myself in the face to distract me from the horrible song. CD (song) is pretty boring once you get past the into.

The blues and Maddy are pretty strong to be fair (but we've been hearing them for ten years so might be nice to swap them round a bit).

Shaklers is a pretty energetic song that can get the crowd going so I'd like that to be a staple. This I Love is a great song, so that should stay. Not sure how he's performing that these days, but hopefully better than reading 2010. Yuck.

But most of that is my opinion and not really fair on the band. However my main point is that universally liked songs like TWAT, Prostitute, and Catcher in the rye are completely ignored and they're my favourite off the album and I think a fair few others too. Especially TWAT.

From the old days I love You're Crazy (lies version).

Anyways the band are putting on a HUGE show so my complaints are VERY minor, I'd just like to see the best songs from CD played so the audience who doesn't know the album (and I bet there's a fair few) can see they've still got something to offer. If I didn't know CD and heard sorry and CD at a concert I wouldn't buy the new album.

  4. Since 2001 other people have been playing Slash's, Duffs, Stephens, and Izzys parts of songs. You might not like it but after 10 years you have to start to fucking accept it.

There's not point comparing Slash and Ashba, there's no point arguing over who does it best, because you're never going to agree if you're solely a fan of the New gunners or the old gunners and don't have time for the other line ups. Whether it's better or not you have no objectivity to back it up.

I realise a lot of you are going through puberty and have a lot of hormones flying around. My advice is to take a deep breath, have a wank, and come back to the forum with at least a big toe dipped in the pool of reality.

  5. NME in deciding what to write without really understanding the clip shock.

This will always happen, Axl mentions Slash in a negative way and the media will paint the picture they want twisting the words as much as possible.

Having said that, I don't think Axl answered the question very well. The reason you are always late does not have anything to do with 1991 and slash making you tour when you didn't want to.

That might explain that tour, but you've been late ever since, and before that tour. So that actually sounds like Slash and the management making you tour had no bearing on you being late, it just made you more late. what about the tours now? Why are you late now?

I think people should set Axl's watch 2 hours later than the real time and tell the venues in each place to set the clocks 2 hours ahead of time and then he might hit the stage near enough on time.

    LP

  6. Can't people just enjoy the fact that a did his first tv interview in years without nitpicking every sentence of it to death?

It doesn't matter on the band or the singer or how active or inactive they are; fans will always listen intently to what their favourite artists say and discuss it.

If you agreed with what was being said by the "nitpickers" I'm sure your opinion would be different.

You won't change how the world behaves so I'd get used to this.

  7. He clearly didn't answer the question as regards the late starts.

    "Everybody makes mistakes"...

    Sure.

When I saw them, it took the crew twenty minutes to set the stage. After that, you could see Bumble waiting on the side of the stage, guitar in hand and riiiiight on the other side of the stage, Axl in his room, peeping through the curtain every five minutes and getting anxious at the crowd getting angry. No one else was doing anything on that stage. The show was ready to go and for some reason it wouldn't.

I mean, if he needs that time to get in the right state of mind to give it his best : so be it, it's well worth it. But the "everybody makes mistakes and gets ADD" answer is, imo, plain bullshit. GnR has one of the finest crew and touring band in the world. They have been doing this for a decade. They are professionals. They usually arrive at the venue twenty hours before the show. They DON'T get ADD one hour before the show, Axl...

Yeah all true. I dunno why the question is asked though, he's not the kind of guy to take responsibility for his actions, or more accurately, admit a weakness or shortcoming, so it's better to talk to him about soemthing he can be honest about.

I doubt we'll ever see the day when Axl just comes out and says "I get nervous and get terrible stage fright and it takes me time to get the courage to go onstage". If he said that he would get a million times more empathy and understanding from the world, not to mention moisten the knickers of his female (and some male) fans. Instead he chooses to talk shit and blame others. Poor guy.

You've gotta love Axl for who he is but you can't help but feel with a few minor changes he could do himself a ton of good.

  8. Hahaha! I love the whole irony about the late question after keeping that fat cunt waiting until 5:30am. Axl: "we're getting better!" Of course you are.

"So why are you late on stage?"

    "It's Slash's fault"

    :blink::laugh:

Just say the last part where you're always late for stuff, that would get you more credit than trying to blame everyone else for shit.

"I'm always late, always have been, sorry but that's just how I am".

    Done.

Still great to see him on screen again getting interviewed it's just a shame he needs his hat and shades to hide behind, it would be cool to see him properly. It never looks honest with shades on.

Yeah it's like a poker face thing. Oh well, I'm glad he did the interview and I can't wait to check it out! :)

Agree and it's not surprising he was going to be guarded after such a long time away from the cameras.

I don't think we're gonna hear anything new from Axl. He has his answers for the questions people have asked him for years and who he is blaming and he's sticking with 'em.

    CD: Record company's fault.

    No Pormotion: Record Company's failt

    Lateness: remarkably still blaming slash

    Reunion: No

New Material: We're writing all the time and have some already complete, we're working on getting the right material together to do an album and we will promote it this time

Have I missed any 'burning' question?

  9. Hahaha! I love the whole irony about the late question after keeping that fat cunt waiting until 5:30am. Axl: "we're getting better!" Of course you are.

  10. Is anybody else not all that big a fan of the live versions of SCOM and PC? For whatever reason I find them not to be all that memorable live. However, Rocket Queen and Nightrain always blow me away. And Jungle and November Rain are usually stellar. KOHD is the centerpiece of the show though. That's when you really get to hear what makes Axl's voice so special.

He can't sing SCOM very well live and hasn't really been able to since the 80's.

PC is always good live though - great song and Axl hitting the notes on this one before the guitar madness is a great moment. It's like a party.

Hate the KOHD version of the new band. Over-long, over-indulgent, pointless band-wank of a song that never goes anywhere. Handy if you need a piss mid-set though.

November Rain is inconsistent these days, it depends how Axl's doing on the night.

LOVE Rocket Queen and Jungle is probably Axl's most consistant song from any era (bar the micky mouse years perhaps). He always delivered Jungle.

Nightrain from the new band is awesome, I think I prefer the 2006 version the best. It was awesome to hear Axl nail Nightrain with Rasp again after hearing the piss-weak squeeks from 2001-2.

I think for forgetable songs Live and Let Die gets my vote. Which is a testiment to Axl's improvement from 2002, because back then it was pretty much the highlight for the big note he pulled out of nowhere on this one. Now it's just meh. And it's a cover. KOHD is not forgettable it's just shit and should be removed.

  11. Selling less than Sting is not worrying at all. He's stayed relevant for the past decade. He and Segar's demographic tends to have more expendable money than the GNR bracket which is a generation younger. Same with Paul Simon. But Sting has been one of the most popular and successful artists in the past 10 years. That'd be like saying selling less than U2 is troubling. I think expectations need to be tempered a bit here. GNR is not going to be the biggest band in the world again even if it was a reunion tour. It just isn't going to happen. Axl isn't going to take over the world again. Doing 10-20K arenas is great. That's a pretty good spot to be in during a terrible economy with a band that has had no domestic promotion or visibility for a decade. They have their audience and that is that. People have to stop thinking that there is going to be some giant come back. That's just setting yourself up for a disapointment. Even if Axl has his 2010 voice in 2002, they were never going to get close to that level they were in the late 80s and early 90s. You gotta chill out and just enjoy some shows.

Sting has been a cunt for well over 15 years and I've barely heard a new song from him since Field of Gold.

He reunited with the police again because no one was interested. He's hardly fucking relevant.

Don't really know bob seger can't say much about him.

But I will say that the younger your audience the more time you have for concerts and shit. when do bands sell out their arenas and shit? When they're 60? No it's when there young and when their audience is young. You even said they're not gonna take over the world again but they took over the world because they were young and so were their fans, but you're making the argument that older bands sell more tickets! D'oh! And what about Roger Daltry (bottom of the list), are his fans fucking 10?

Anyways your arguments are wrong and nonsensical. I don't expect GNR to do well, I'm just saying that being in the top 10 means nothing if no one good is touring and there's no figures on how many tickets are sold. And I don't think selling less than sting is that good.

  12. Well the article shows Paul Simon at 4th in the written list but he is mentioned as being the 5th most popular in the order of ticket sales. So the order does no seem to relate to the sales.

This is a snap shot poll of what's happening "right now" it's not the most popular of 2011 it's just bands touring now, which I dunno doesn't seem to be that many at the moment looking at that list.

I guess most bands tour in the summer with spring/early autumn being the next most popular. Winter tours are usually confined to Southern hemisphere (Oz etc..), so I don't think it's a popular time to tour right now.

So the importance of "being in the top 10" RIGHT NOW depends on who else is touring (the value of the market) and the number of tickets you sell/revenue you make.

I think Katy Perry occupies one of the top 5 places. GNR who knows?

I don't think that top 10 is particularly strong so I dunno if being in that top 10 is an acheivement in the first place. The article is full of holes and tells you nothing in reality.

    47% of what?

Only then will it mean something tangible and only when you know the percentage of GNR will you know if it's any good.

It wll be interesting to see where GNR stand at the end of the year for the 2011 poll. That's when it will matter. There's no acheivement at being 7th most popular anything if the other 9 people are shit.

It would have been nice if the article could give us some more info so we can actually guage how GNR are doing, but there's nothing in it to suggest GNR are doing well or shit. we just know they're selling less than Sting and Bob Segers which is worrying.

And Wasted - this article and most things from the US aren't designed for people with brain cells.

that's the problem these days people see "Top 10" and think "AMAZING!" without stopping to think what it really means.

  13. Copied from AFD:

Fans are discussing whether the tour is selling well in the US. Here is some information:
SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Fan favorites Bob Seger and Sting are the two leading artists among the pop and rock acts currently selling tickets on the TicketNetwork Exchange*. Joining Seger and Sting in the top ten are Guns N' Roses, Paul Simon, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Straight No Chaser, Ryan Adams, Josh Groban, and Roger Daltrey.

These top acts accounted for 47% of pop and rock category ticket sales over the last month, but no one act overwhelmingly dominated the top ten. For example, tickets for Seger's tour only accounted for a little over 27% of all tickets sold among the ten acts. However, the percentage dropped precipitously after the number five position, Paul Simon, so that the last position on the list, held by Roger Daltrey, only account for about 2.5% of tickets sold.

The average selling price for all top ten artists combined is $129, while the highest average price is for Sting, at $157. The lowest average price is for Straight No Chaser, at $90. View the table below to see the average prices for the other top ten performers.

    Source: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45011503#.TqU17XLrFXs

So it can't be that bad, really.....

I wanna see the percentages for the other acts, because if one act sells over 27% (over 1/4) of all sales and another sells 2.5% then there seems to be a big scope for showing if you're doing all right.

GNR could be around 3% or 26% of that 47% of total sales that's a huge difference.

As the leading 2 acts, it sounds like Bob and Sting are selling similarly (shit taste in the US by the way), so you could pretty confidently say they would share around half of the 47% of sales. That leaves 8 acts for the remaining half.

    1. Seger (27%)

    2. Sting (24%?)

    3. ?????

    4. ?????

    5. Paul Simon

    --------------------

    6. ?????

    7. ?????

    8. ?????

    9. ?????

    10. Roger Dalty (2.5%)

Of the acts that are left only 2 can fit into the "doing well" category, pick from the list below who you think will be selling the most tickets. Is GNR more popular than the rest?

Guns N' Roses, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Straight No Chaser, Ryan Adams, Josh Groban

If GNr aren't in the top 5 then I don't think you could count it successful.

    LP

  14. What I don't understand is, what's the problem with a song getting heard live? Songs by bands are supposed to be heard. "It's like a song leaking these days if you play it live..."

Well yes and no. See I get the leaks being an issue because people may hear versions of songs that aren't ready/how you want them to be. A Live representation is always going to be different so it doesn't matter. It's road testing a song, maybe seeing what works what doesn't and taking the learnings into the studio.

BUT still my over all question in point is: What's the problem with people hearing your music. Unless it's shit and embarrassing I don't get the problem. People will always illegally download songs before/after an official release anyway. So sales won't be affected, unless it's shit and will put them off buying the album. But again you shouldn't be releasing shit songs.

Get the music out there if you're proud of it. get people wanting a new album and maybe the record company will forget about the chinese democracy album and support a new release. I get the fact that Axl is out of shape and his voice is rubbish at the moment, so if that's the case, then do what someone else suggested and release a song for free on your website, or release it via iTunes for 80p and get some buzz going.

These ideas have been around forever and GNR never take them up so there's no reason they will now. There are no reasons why new songs are played except for the decision of Axl, and no doubt it's the fact he has no confidence in the songs, himself, and the music business/press anymore.

  15. To those saying he doesn't owe us anything... with every year and every tour that passes GNR are losing credibility, fans, and potential new fans.

I live in the UK and was all over the band when they came over in 2002 I knew Maddy and The Blues (as it was) and who the band were and everything. Axl sounded like a wounded puppy, but it was so exciting to have him back it didn't matter.

Plus Maddy and the Blues sounded better back then than the album versions we got, so the future was sort of exciting.

2006 came round and fuck me the voice was back he looked MUCH healthier, he was biting people, it was like 1992 again. (except for albums and single releases). We got the leaks before the tour and everyone anticipated an album release.

Of course this never happened, but the tour was immense and Axl was back.

Then he disappeared the album came out to shit reviews and was essentially a mess and a rush release. A rush release after 15 years. No tour, no press, no interviews, nothing.

Then he came back (again) in 2010... And what a fucking mess he was. I didn't even see them tour when they came here. Embarrassing is not the word. His voice was shot he was out of shape and his face looked like it had melted.

Then there was the fiasco at reading festival (I think) where they were supposed to be shown live, or at least extensive highlights were, and Axl fucked that right up and nothing was shown the night it should have. We waited and got 3 songs.

I have to say I'm glad for Axl that's all we got. November rain was a car crash, This I Love was badly sung... far too much rasp, and again he looked a right state.

My Ex saw them with me in 2006 and loved it, even though she's not a GNR fan at all. It was in Hammersmith Apollo and the place was fucking mental. First look at him on the TV in 2010 playing November Rain and she said "what the fuck has he done to himself" then he sang... OUCH.

I was hoping Axl would come back stronger this time after that fuck up, but no he's the same. Now he's lost the rasp and the control of his voice again. That paradise city they put on facebook was shocking. I thought if GNR put it on there it must be good, I had hopes, but they went after the first line he sung.

So while you say GNR don't owe us anything they don't, but if they want to carry on, and if YOU want them to carry on then they need to do something but these horrible live shows. I was a big fan of Axl's and GNRs but I'm tired of the lack of effort the lack of professionalism and the lack of enthusiasm that Axl has these days. There will be countless posts saying "yeah but people had fun at the concert blah, blah, blah", well good for them. But I was a big fan, and I don't want to see him anymore. I can't imagine casual fans will go to see this and still be around the next time. It will be interesting to see how the US audiences are, and how the press treat them. If they're not careful they could finsih themselves in the US. It looks like Rock in Rio have had enough.

You can say "It's rock and roll" but in the US they don't deal with that shit. If you're late, they'll sue you. They'll probably be suing the promoters because Slash isn't in the band. People do care if you rock up at 1am. At the prices I'd be interested to see how full the arenas are anyway.

If they had an album that all the kids were raving about then it wouldn't matter, but the fact is that won't happen and they haven't even got an album out or coming out.

These things are all linked to keeping your fans happy. Of course with the classic line ups output you will always get interest in this band, but it will dwindle if they don't respect what fans they have. And with little or no new songs, they won't replace them very easily.

I hope Axl pulls his finger out, releases an album, gets his double/tripple chin removed and comes back fighting fit like in 2006. If not I don't see things improving for this band, or me going to see them play.

  16. When he's in pain, he is more down to earth, more quiet, and not trying so hard to be crazy and stuff. he has a sense of humbleness about him that I think is far more enlightening then any amount of swearing he can do in a home video.

settle down and play. Use George Harrison as your example.

    Humblefoot?

    But yeah you're an idiot.

  17. I don't think a tv audience wants to be blown away really. they just sort of want to slip into a coma as soon as possible. it's seems like they are done road testing CD songs are ready to put on the best show they can for the US. Chi Dem, Better, SOD, Sorry, TIL are ready to go.

Maybe you're right but people here are expecting something to happen once GNR play a new song at their own gigs and it won't.

I don't think GNR will play an awards show, but if people on here want a reaction to GNR then that's how they're going to get what they want. Except a couple of blogs or a MAYBE a mention in a column in rolling stone or whatever, nothing will happen.

  18. If they're going to do an album they need to record the cunt over a couple of months at the MOST, otherwise it's going to sound like the incoherent, mixed up, jumble of bollocks that is Chinese Democracy.

Everyone loves AFD because it sounds like an album. It has a couple of bum tracks on it, but overall it's pretty cool all the way though. It's a block of music that came from the same place by the same people.

They need to do that again with this new band to get some kind of credibility and positive feedback again. Doesn't matter if the songs are new or old, get the people who are in the band now to record them fresh.

Get Axl to sing with the new band NOW (not make a patchwork of different vocals over a decade) and delvier an album that sounds at least a bit like a band playing in your room. The emotionless perfection that came from CD kills the majority of the songs.
