  1. Ok, so I'm a guitarist, just want to know if anyone has any advice to help me improve. I mainly play metal stuff, i'm a pretty able guitarist, can do a lot of that shred malarky so my overall technique is quite advanced and I know a bit of theory, know pretty much to write a decent enough metal song. It's the more theory side of things I want to get better at, my improvising isnt too great, I limit my soloing to the minor scale and minor pentatonic with the odd harmonic minor. I know all my major scale positions and minor pent positions but not fluent enough with them to just improvise anywere on the fretboard. I only know the one position for the minor scale. I really really want to grasp modes properly as I feel it will definately branch out my playing more but I just cant seem to understand them properly. I also have trouble memorising all the chord formulas and stuff, my memory isnt the best either. After doing all that I might try branching out more to learn different styles such as jazz and classical etc... Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

  2. So is the topic starter saying Vai plays with no emotion and just speed? Thats bollocks, virtuosos's know there theory and modal knowledge to a tee, they can great a sound for every mood, althought i prefer players like becker, satch and yngwie over vai, vai is one of the most expressive guitarists ive ever heard, check out ''for the love of god'' for example, his articulation on every note is perfect, a true master. ''Shred instrumental'' is an aquired taste, the reason why people hate it is not because they think its just random speed, its because it doesnt suit there taste, fast runs are a great way to build up tension in a piece etc, you hear it in classical music all the time.

Btw, id you know vai fasted for 10 days or so before he recorded ''for the love of god'' to get in the right state of mind for it, now if you dont call that emotional dedication then i dunno what is.

  3. HAHA, im a maniac front man, its nothing to do with how we performed. We've had some awesome gigs before, but something at this one wasnt right for some reason.

  4. Hey all fellow band members, have any of you done a gig and despite performing pretty well, something was really lacking and it felt like shit afterwards? I just did a gig out of town and something just wasnt there...Post ur thoughts.

  5. i got a white one with band members on the front and back with roses surrounding them and it says skin n bones tour 93 on the back, then i got a bad apples one showing a skulls head with the top of an apple on his head and the bottom part on his chin, it has tour dates on the back use your illusion tour 91 - 91, i really want one of those get in the ring motherfucker ones!
