1. I'm here, on cell so not going through whole thread, but can def say that the place was decently filled for Buckcherry, who were great. Sadly the crowd was kinda dead (at least compared to the first Hammerstein show and the Greensboro show in 2006. Also Frank was watching the show in the audience with his gf, I was like 95% sure it was him and asked him as they started heading out. Very cool guy. Asked me my name and told me to enjoy the show. Already an awesome night.

2. To the people complaining that Dre is barely in the song, go listen to some of the stuff from 2001.

There are songs he literally does not appear on.

Reading through this thread makes it really, really obvious who is actually a big Dre fan and who isn't. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this.

For the record, I'm a casual Dre fan, but I really like this song.

3. Merck and Azoff should get together and share war stories.

Anyway, I look forward to law god Kickingthehabit looking through these legal documents.

This part was interesting:

In the course of negotiations, Azoff advised Rose that he has copyright infringement,

fraud and other claims against Activision for the unauthorized and unlawful use of the song "Sweet

Child of Mine" in the promotion of Activision's best-selling video game Guitar Hero 3.

Activision made millions of dollars on the game. None of that money was shared with Rose. Azoff promised

Rose that he would take care of pursuing those claims against Activision by filing a lawsuit or

striking a deal with the company.

Most interesting is they made a mistake in a legal document. There was a cover of Sweet Child of Mine in Guitar Hero 2. It was Welcome to the Jungle in Guitar Hero 3.

4. Not the best, but probably my favourite.

Lupe Fiasco is my favorite rapper by a decently large margin. If you are a real fan of rap music, do yourself a favor and check him out. When you have people like Jay-Z and Rakim calling you the best rapper around, you are doing something right.

I won't make fun of people listing Wayne, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I really don't get the love. He might be better than a lot of BS on the radio, but that isn't saying much. I have yet to hear any song that made me say "wow" or anything. Most of the songs don't even have any real messages. He's got some funny punchlines, but best rapper alive? I know he keeps saying, but why do so many other people say it? ;)

I think some others that are worth mentioning are: Jay-Z, Nas, Kanye West (the fact that he does his own production is a large part of it, but he's also good on the mic), Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Eminem, Fort Minor, and Andre 3000. Over the last few days I've been rocking Brother Ali and Atmosphere (Slug) - I still haven't listened to either of their entire discographies, but they are both very, very good in my opinion.

One up and coming rapper a lot of people might not know about is NC local J. Cole. He had a guest spot on The Blueprint 3. Here's

that is getting a bit of radio play, but I think this one might be
after a few listens (it was okay at first, but it has really grown on me - LOVE the beat). He was pretty sick live too. Definitely check out his mixtapes.
5. Chris Cornell is one of my favorite artists - Euphoria Morning is actually one of my favorite CDs - so I've been looking forward to this since last summer. I heard a few of the songs a few months ago, but I didn't bother downloading the leak for late last month or whatever, so most of it is new for me. I love it. I think Part of Me is pretty meh, but not quite as bad as some on here are making out. Never Far Away, Long Gone, and Scream seem even better now than when I heard them on Youtube way back. They are probably my favorite songs after the first listen, as well, though that is surely tainted by the fact that I knew them already.

Chris wasn't kidding when he said to listen to it straight through, on headphones. Do so and you'll get it. All the songs flow together, etc. And the sound is definitely one of those things that deserve to be listened to with headphones. I also must say that I think the whole is stronger than the sum of its parts.

I'm not surprised a lot of his old fans hate it (especially the Soundgarden only ones), but you should all give it a chance in my opinion.

6. I have a friend who works at Best Buy who I'm going to have try to look into this this afternoon. He's just a regular employee, not a manager or anything, but I guess we'll see. I told him to search for Chinese Democracy, and gave him one SKU and one UPC to check. I'll report back if he find anything.

7. I haven't listened to it yet, but I have their first three albums - they're pretty cool sounding... but seriously, they're the Nickelback of Power Metal. There are much better bands playing similar music in my opinion. That said, I'm sure it doesn't suck, in that it probably sounds fairly similar to their first three albums, which musically sound very cool, even if you can't tell them apart.

Their recycling of lyrics is funny too.

8. I'm a newbie fan of Bayside, but I quite like what I hear. The new album hasn't grown on me as much as some of the other stuff I have heard from them (a whole 3 or 4 weeks ago), but it's pretty decent. The live album is awesome though.

For those that haven't heard of them, I think I'd call them Emo... but apparently they don't consider themselves Emo, but rather Punk. I hate 99% of both Emo and Punk, so I don't know, but I think they're pretty awesome.

Here's a video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImoXZ99Zu-A

And one from their acoustic album:

Their whole discography is actually for stream on Myspace now if you're interested.

Thoughts?

9. Okay fine, I was just hoping you'd be able to back them up. If you wanna chalk it up to oppinion, that's cool, but you go on to the street today, you can bet most people would be able to name or sing the chorus to at least 2 Oasis hits, best response you'd get for Jay-Z would be "yeah he was in that thing with Beyonce right?"

lol

Not in America. No. Just... no.

STP is also wayyyy more popular than Oasis in America, then and now.

Oh, and I'm an Oasis fan, but some of you guys are blowing it out of proportion. I don't know how huge they were in the UK or Australia, but I assure you that they are not that big here. They were kinda popular for awhile, but nothing like some of you guys are making it out to be.

SunnyDRE has been pretty accurate.

Also... Jay-Z > Oasis.

10. They're no Pearl Jam, their front man was an ass, but they're far better than most are willing to give them credit for. I love My Sacrifice, as well as some of their other songs.

The hate for them is really uncalled for.

11. I don't listen to a lot of hip-hop, but it's probably more than most people on here :tongue2:

My favorites include Lupe Fiasco, Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, Blackstar, Common, and Kanye West. And Eminem, Nas, 2Pac, Mos Def, and The Roots are really good too, but I don't like them as much as the first group (for various reasons). I know there are probably a few others that I'm forgetting.... Recently I've heard some songs on Pandora that I'll probably look into, but I don't want to make statements about how much I like a guy/group before I hear more than a song or two.

Feel free to throw more rap at me - I'm always up for more stuff.

12. This album adds some much needed diversity to the mainstream hip-hop genre. Its nice to finally listen to someone rap with some talent and real writing capabilities. How did you pass on the song hello/goodbye though? that song came out of nowhere and is great! The only problem I have with the album, in this day in age you automatically associate rap with guns, bling, cars, and chicks that when you hear other topics being rapped about it comes out a little foreign sounding. Nothing wrong with that, its just I'm so used to getting pumped up or feeling bad-ass after listening to some rap, and to instead be getting a positive messaged preached to me or even feel that some of the lyrics sound...dare I say..dorky is hard to handle at times. I guess thats why they say he isn't "popping on the streets" though.

best track - dumb it down

Hello/Goodbye is a great song, it definitely sticks out, it might be my favorite after those I listed... I don't know, I really love the whole thing. As for the dorky lyrics, I'm not really sure I agree, though I do know exactly what you mean. Lupe isn't conventional when it comes to most aspects of Hip-Hop. I mean, try telling people that he has a song personifying a Cheeseburger. A song that, although humorous, isn't any kind of parody or anything, is a real song, and sounds good. It's crazy.

I love his positive messages. And I love the fact that after a dozen listens you realize some other word play that you had completely missed. Lets hope this CD does better than the last (though I wouldn't say the last one flopped per say, it didn't do all that well either).

13. I don't have any of his albums, but I loved his song "Kick, Push" from the moment I heard it.

At the moment he only has his debut, Food & Liquor, and his album that dropped today, The Cool, and a few free internet mixtapes (the Fahrenheit 1/15 series are the main ones, it's really just two, as the third one is a 15 minute joke CD (that is surprising good for being just 15 minutes) - they shouldn't be hard to find downloads for). I highly recommend all of the above.

"Kick, Push" is one of the best examples of his ability to paint a story - I honestly don't think anyone can touch him as a narrator. He even tops Nas, in my opinion. Also check out "The Cool" for another song that paints a story (the song from Food & Liquor, his second album is named after it because it contains a handful of songs about the same character - it's a semi-concept album). And I have to throw out "Hurt Me Soul," "Daydream," and now "Dumb it Down" as songs to check out, just because I say those to everyone who says they've heard a song or two by Lupe and liked them.

I'm really curious to see how this album sells, from what I hear "Superstar" is receiving a lot of play on music stations, and a friend said he even saw Dumb it Down (the internet single he released the video for over YouTube) on there. That combined with prior success, Jay-Z and Rakim (of Rakim & Eric B. fame) both naming him as their favorite current artist, and diverse songs (there are poppy beats, more... gritty stuff, and some kinda rock-ish beats) ... I would hope it sells well, but that doesn't always happen, as we all know.

14. Um... Rock and Roll All Nite?

Honestly I only know what I've heard on the radio... I should probably check out a Greatest Hits and see which CDs I should get from there. They seem fun even if not that great.

15. I know people on this forum have a habit of hating anything that isn't hard rock/heavy metal, but nonetheless...

The album has been on MTV's The Leak for a week (and thus really leaked for about the same amount of time), but finally dropped today. The real thing sounds even better. I would have to say this is the best Hip-Hop album of the year (and maybe since his last album, I'd have to think about it a bit). He has the best lyrics around (just listen to Dumb it Down for crying out loud), and the flow and ear for beats to go along with it.

Top tracks after first few listens:

Dumb it Down

Intruder Alert

Hip-Hop Saved My Life

Little Weapon

I really hope he doesn't retire after LUPEnd, as he's one of the few great rappers left today.

Any other fans here?

16. It's the same with films. A movie with a $40 million budget only turns profit if its intake is at least double. That's why so many films that earn back their production costs are still considered flops - Superman Returns, for example.

I hate to point out another mistake, as I think you are one of the better posters on this site, and I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but this isn't really accurate. Most people don't really understand how the movie industry works (and I won't pretend that I do either), and it was reported as a flop initially, but that really wasn't the case at all. It made a big profit, especially overseas (where a LOT of would be flops or marginal movies turn into profit makers) (not to mention DVDs, which companies take into consideration when determining if their product was a flop), and a sequel was actually green-lit for it just a few months after it was released - same director and stars - it will probably start filming some time next year. Although using Hollywood accounting, LOTR, Batman, and Forrest Gump (and ~95% of all movies) can be flops, it just depends if someone is making a percentage of the movie :D

17. I don't think Axl is on there... did they say he was on the broadcast? Album only version perhaps?

The show preview clearly said that it was the Axl version.

Ah... then I guess he's really low in the mix then. There are a few parts where I thought it COULD be Axl using his "It's So Easy" voice, but I really couldn't tell. I was hoping he'd be the one tossin' the screams around, but Seb did an awesome job.

http://www.musicremedy.com/musicaudio/Seba...slap-167954.wvx

more clearly

Link doesn't work :(

I think Axl is just doing backing for most of it... I think at the end it is him as lead vocals where he's like "leave it all beeeehiiiiind..." and screams... but my lap top has crappy built-in speakers and my roommates are asleep so...

EDIT: Got out my headphones, if Axl's not doing vocals on the chorus ("got a knock down drag it out find in my mind" or something), then Bach is using layered vocals, 99% sure it's Axl (considering he's supposed to be on there). Also pretty sure axl says "Got the weight of the world on my back" and what I said above near the end.
