Are you serious? A lot of those bands are still very popular with teens. I've seen many many people with those bands on their shirts, and believe it or not, some kids do wear those shirts because they like the bands. AC/DC, Zeppelin, and The Ramones especially are still very popular with teens.
Yes, pop music is ALWAYS what's going to be popular with the young generation. Because it's POP MUSIC aka POPULAR MUSIC. You just have to deal with that, they're allowed to like Greenday and any new band, just because you like older rock bands doesn't make your taste any better than theirs, now does it?
There's always good music (to your taste) being made, you just gotta look for it. It might not be the same as what you've been listening to, but you can still give some of it a chance.

Personally I like some of "today's popular" music, but I also dislike a lot of it as well. Just because you don't enjoy what mainstream rock is, doesn't mean you can't go looking for underground bands.
Also, just because your friends like different music than you, doesn't mean that you have better taste than them. Since when is your music choice all high and mighty?

People, it's just a cover song, it happens. No one claimed that they were trying to be better than Queen and Bowie.
