  1. More Van Halen.

    Women and Children, Fair Warning...

After II, they didn't really hit their stride again until Diver Down and 1984.

I thought WACF and FW were their best albums. Harder and without that pop shit that held down their previous albums. If anything, Diver Down was disappointing. Though great, it almost feels like a throw away.

  2. I just saw Black Sabbath and Megadeth a couple of hours ago. Fucking fantastic. Both bands were spot on. Best show I've ever seen. I talked to a few friends after the show and we agreed that Rush is next. That's gonna be killer. I'm still hoping to win Roger Water tickets though. They're almost sold out in Ottawa and I've entered a few draws for them from a local radio station. Genesis wouldn't be bad either.

  3. I'm simply not a fan of the Hagar period. There were undoubtedly some fantastic songs there (I love Finish what ya started and Right now) but it just seems they were writing very commercial, radio-orientated songs at this period, without any of the youthful fire and energy of the Dave era.

Not that writing commercial songs is bad, just that it didn't work for Van Halen.

It's less about the change of singer and more about the change of direction they took.

Exactly. If they wrote fun songs (1984) or more serious songs (Fair Warning), but not cheesy commercial songs like Why Can't This Be Love or Can't Stop Lovin' you, it could have been a winning formula with Hagar. Where it stands, it wasn't. More profitable maybe, but the music took a turn for the worst, IMO.

That being said they were better live. Hagar even pulled off DLR era songs better. Yeah, Dave knew how to work a crowd, but his vocals live were garbage. He forgot most of the lyrics. They could have never released a live album with him because he would have been absent for half of it.

  4. As usual I wasn't there for the opening acts.

I stocked up on beer shortly before 10:30PM as this was the closing time to buy alcohol (I always ask as soon as I arrive at a venue, no, I'm not an alccoholic, but I do like to drink beer during a concert. Yes I finished my 3 beers before GNR went on). Some venues stop selling alcohol really really early.

Cigarettes kept me going too.. but at this venue smoking cigarettes in the washroom was a big no-no as I saw many people getting tickets for doing so. So I went outside this time. Now this should not be a problem tomorrow at the Quebec City concert as smoking is often tolerated (cigarette smoking that is) in the washrooms and the legal drinking age here is often only a suggestion. (proceed at your own risk).

If your bandana was red, then I saw it and I think that everyone else did too.

There was lots of security at this venue, I'd say more than usual.

I don't understand what you mean about Axl being a complete jerk though. I don't think he was at all, on the contrary, he smiled more, etc.

He was being cocky. For example, at the end of My Michelle all Seb could do was praise Axl and Axl just had this stupid grin on his face. He really thought he was the center of the universe. There were also other situations where the guy presented himself as less then humble. And you can't forget that they started at 12:00. I agree though, he smiled often and it was nice of him to introduce his band all together at the end.

  5. The band definetly sounded awsome. When WTTJ kicked in I can't remember a time when I felt so pchyed. However, by the time they started playing it was nearly 12:00 and when it was over I was tired as hell. A friend of mine fell asleep during Paradise until the pyros (man, were they intense) got to him. I know Axl has a reputation for his late arrivals, but by the time he arrived me and my friends felt so drained. We're under the drinking age so we didn't have anything to keep us going.

Sebastian Bach was such a great and colourful character. I enjoyed his performance so much compared to those other two shity ones. Suicide Girls felt like an amatuer act. Don't get me started on the other band, they were terrible and brought the whole show down. Seb was just a great and humble guy. He and his band really gave it their all and they're what elavated the show after two abysmal performances.

Overall it was great and I had a really fun time. Axl was a complete jerk as usual  and his band pulled off an amazing show.

  6. The Hard Rock cafe is actually in the stadium complex. I would go if I could, but I'm taking along some friends of mine and I don't know at which time we're arriving. We'll be leaving right after the concert though. I'm guessing It'll end sometime around 12:00 - 1:00?

  7. The Halifax show just sold out before i got my tickets. Fuck. But the point is they are selling out. Stop spreading false conceptions about shows not selling out so people think they have lots of time to get tickets.

Yep , only a few single tickets left for Halifax.

And from what I heard, Quebec city is really close to be sold out.

Just called man, they are sold dry. Which is good in a way i guess, I can still make it to Ottawa. For some reason alot of people there aren't into GNR.

Meh, more room for my GNR lovin Ass!

To bad they won't come to Montreal. Nothing better than good old GNR and Club Super Sex!

    A8R

If you're thinking of buying Ottawa tickets, you better hurry up. They're selling pretty quickly there too. Lower level tickets are almost all gone. Luckly I bought some during the pre-sale.
