  1. When appetite came out in like the third grade I saw them on MTV.  I was one of the only kids with MTV on my block because it was a premium channel back then.  My older brother was like 14 so he had it on, and I bought Appetite on cassette when I was like 7 years old.

  2. Hey, I just want to point out that Axl didn't single-handedly write these songs.  Everybody acts like he wrote every lyric of every song - bullshit.  Insiders note that Izzy actually wrote a huge portion of the lyrics.  The same used to be true about the Stones, everybody thought Mick Jaggar wrote all the words, but in actuality Kieth Richards was instrumental in the song writing.

  3. I heard the story a little differently... I heard AXL wouldn't let them use Jungle in Black Hawk Down unless they used the new lineup to re-record it.  The director wanted the original and Axl said no.

Also, Snakepit has never played GNR hits like Jungle, SCOM, etc. in their concerts.  I think they play Brownstone occasionally, but they are not trying to be Guns.  Axl is getting criticized for taking the name, making a new band, and then sitting on his ass instead of releasing a record.

  4. Slash's sh*t gets a LOT easier if you not only learn the pentatonic and pentatonic-blues scales, but all 7 of the blues "boxes" that fit together to cover virtually the entire fretboard in any given key.  You'll find if you learn these boxes that it is almost the only thing Slash (and most blue-based guitarists) uses.  The alternative is to actually sit down and learn music theory for a couple of years so you can build the scales yourself - but the blues box is an easy way to accomplish virtually the same thing.  There is also a great technique guide on www.snakepit.org.  Slash uses TONS of triplets and arpeggios to sound really fast - and he is awesome at artificial harmonics, too.
