  1. Michael Monroe’s album Sensory Overdrive is pretty killer..., and line-up on it is real killer:

Monroe, Ginger (Wildhearts etc.), Sam Yaffa (Hanoi Rocks, NY Dolls etc.), Steve Conte (NY Dolls etc.) and Karl Rockfist.

Later Ginger was replaced by Dregen (Backyard Babies, Hellacopters etc.)

And btw (about Duff), "Sensory Overdrive won The Best Album of The Year award at the Classic Rock Awards. Other nominees included Foo Fighters, Motörhead and Whitesnake to name few.

The 7th Classic Rock Awards ceremony was hosted by the legendary Gene Simmons at Roundhouse in London. There were Deep Purple, Scorpions, Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, Steel Panther, Jeff Beck, Queen’s Brian May, Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend, Chrissie Hynde and other big stars of the rock world. The award was handed by Duff McKagan who praised the band, saying that Monroe deserves all the world’s attention."

  2. Kosonen and all the other guys who don't "get" Hanoi...you should at least check out their album "Two Steps from the Move" . In my honest opinion, it's one of the greatest albums by a Finnish band ever. You can listen to it on Spotify if you have an account. But if you don't have, just find another way. It's good. It's really good. Give it a chance.

And I recommend to check out Demolition 23's album, it is pretty amazing and not so wellknown.

  3. Only know a handful of Hanoi tunes but I know he's got Ginger Wildheart in his band now so there will be some tasty guitar playing for those who see them live.

They had some changes in line-up.

I was doing few weeks ago newspaper article of them. Line-up was: Monroe, Ginger, Sam Yaffa, Steve Conte and Karl Rosqvist.

It was Top5 show in last few years to me. It was great to see Ginger in action without him doing lead vocals. He is amazing rocker, and of course Michael as well.

Here is one photo of Michael and Sam what I put to the article.

  4. Same Argentinean label released similar kind of collection of the Ramones. My friend Mariano composed it and result was really good, booklet had details about each song etc.

Compilation will be great gem for regular G N'R fans for sure (we gotta remember lot fans not heard those rare songs compilation will include).

  5. ok, serious question, how much are we talking for a large beer in helsinki?

any advice on cheap bars that are good!

0,5 liter beer cost 4-6 euros in normal places.

Heavy Corner is 5 minutes walk from railway station, it is great rock/heavy bar and pretty cheap.

From Helsinki-Vantaa airport it takes around 40-45 minutes to the city.

  6. Yeah, nowadays gotta be so careful with pirates, even with venues. Some weeks ago Tommy Ramone was announced to go to the Ramones related store in Rio De Janeiro (owner of the store spreaded news). Luckily I asked of it from Tommy and I cleared things on my site. Tommy replied "Nobody has contacted me about any of this. So I don't know anything about it. I have heard nothing about going to Rio or anywhere else in South America. Who is spreading this rumor?"

  7. Here is an review (Maximum Rocknroll) of the Ramones: Soundtrack Of Our Lives (the one where is Bumblefoot):

"This is a book about the Ramones. It is also about people and music and communication and friendship and inspiration, but in the end nothing inside here means anything without its connection to the Ramones. Jari-Pekka (and his fourteen year-old website, listed above) is the be-all end-all aggregate for all things Ramones, collecting information and interviews and photos with anything even remotely related to the band.

A self-described "worldwide collection of rare photos and loving tributes to our rebel angels," this Jari's third book on the subject, is mostly populated with interviews. Tommy, Marky, Richie, and CJ (the surviving Ramones) are obviously included, but they just scratch the surface. We also get interviews and written accolades from the Sex Pistols, NOMEANSNO, Agnostic Front, Arturo Vega (artist for the Ramones, Misfits, etc.), high school friends, studio engineers, the famous Backstage Masseuse Dr. Dot, Ramones' graffiti artists, tribute bands, and on and on.

Jari keeps a fair and neutral perspective that is difficult when exploring a band with such a noteworthy in-house rivalry. In fact, Jari does an almost perfect job of keeping the tone of the book (and to a larger extent, his website) completely neutral and respectful. It is likely this effort that has awarded him some of his most exclusive insights, like Dee Dee Ramone giving Jari his personal diary just before he passed away, or an interview with Linda Cummings, the woman at the center of the Joey/Johnny love triangle (included only in this book). You can tell right away that Jari lives and breathes The Ramones that in turn helps him serve as the definitive liaison to their legacy. The fair-weather Ramones fan or even casual rock-biography-reader can enjoy and appreciate Soundtrack... for its detail and depth, but diehards are definitely the true beneficiaries of this book. However much you know about the band (and their story is not a secret one, mind you), this guy and his resources can surely overwhelm you - my favorite aspect being the inadvertent that occur during his research. For instance, did you know that CJ Ramone's most recent CD purchase was Jack Johnson? And who can'cupcake their eyes at the Ramones publicity shot featuring (short-term stand-in drummer for Blondie) Clem Burke wearing a Chanel #5 t-shirt under his leather jacket without a trace of irony? This book is full of these unveilings.

I don't at all mean for this to sound like a bad thing but this book never ends. It has interview after interview after interview after interview. From page 150 through page 170, for example, you get extensive discussions (not just sound bytes) with Joey's girlfriend in Connecticut in the 80's, followed by Dez Cadena, followed by the drummer of Dee Dee's solo project, followed by various members of MOTORHEAD, the Misfits, Guns N'Roses, the Hellacopters, and Turbonegro. The facts and stories, like the Ramones. legacy itself, keep going and going and going...

  8. It were recentley confirmed by fairly realible sources that guns n roses will be playing at Sweden rock festival somewhere between 9 -12 of june, so this might very well be true.

    source:

http://www.aftonbladet.se/nojesbladet/musik/article6570165.ab (in swedish use googel translate)

As Sweden Rock got confirmed in another topic, Finnish date June 5th goes then close of this.

  9. Here are few comments related to this topic/ show in Helsinki:

"We have had negotiations with Guns N'Roses for a long time, but we can't confirm anything. From Guns N'Roses side tour schedules aren't ready and they can't tell where in a world they are touring."

  10. Danish Volbeat just had succesful tour in the USA as well. They are supported now Metallica for many times.

Volbeat has composed new song for boxer Mikkel Kessler: "A Warrior's Call" - recorded just before the Metallica tour. Front man Michael is a huge fan of boxing, so when Mikkel asked the band to write the boxer's theme song, they immediately accepted!"

    Here is a short document:

    http://www.youtube.com/user/MikkelKesslerBoxing

Volbeat has strong influences of Elvis, Misfits, Ramones, some metal bands etc.

  11. Kimi just drove his first real rally competion. He would had successed without one mistake...:

"Kimi crashed into a drift of snow Friday in his debut on the rally circuit and trailed by more than 30 minutes after the first day of racing. Raikkonen was just 5.5 seconds behind leader Dani Sordo after the first stage of the Arctic Lapland Rally but then went off the road during the second stage and needed help to pull the car out of the snow."

  12. So there are talks that Gn'R would perform in Helsinki Live 2010. I doubt Gn'R would move just for one festival gig though, so maybe there's European tour in the works?

Here's the article but I doubt anyone can read it :D

    http://www.iltalehti.fi/viihde/2010020411049851_vi.shtml

In another article Kalle just tells there been some discussions with guys etc. This Iltalehti article tells like it is confirmed, but often that "yellow paper" also writes bullshit. We just gotta hope best.

I gotta ask when I see Kalle next time. Been friends with him for many years (long before he started to bring also bigger acts to Finland).

  13. I got today Backyard Babies (great rock/punk band from Sweden) box set titled Them XX. It is their 20th Anniversary release and has 3CD and 1DVD.

Third CD has Saved By Bell's piano version featuring Dizzy Reed. Version is before released in BB's single Fuck Off And Die
