  1. I agree. Although I think the new gnr is doing pretty damned good with the guys they have, Slash would add that little extra that makes gnr gnr.

ps. my best friend just had Use Your Illusions 1 poster mounted for me for my birthday ... what a girl!!!

  2. I was out there and bought scalpers tickets to see Velvet Revolver a couple of years ago and wow ... what a show. The GNR nostalgia was there, and the new songs rocked. But I have to admit when I heard the album, and I bought it right away, I was disappointed in the depth of the lyrics. The album wasn't that great. Unfortunately Axl has the lyrical genius and Contraband lacked in that big time.

What we will find in Chinese Democracy, and "Better" is my favourite song by far, is true poetry, and Slash's and Duff's riffs couldn't cover the fact that the lyrics were substandard and I hope that their next album has more to it than Contraband.

My friends felt the same way, even with a bias towards the legend of these great rockers rock1

  3. Holy, I am way too tired from last nights show to read all that blather. <_< Some good points, too much negativity, I had the time of my life last night because I found the band reallyl jived together, the solos were crazy, and if people were staring blankly its was because they were tired or stoned or both. I had a buzz and I didn't even smoke.

What a show! Axl is truly back in form and the new GNR is a great band. People, we can only be nostalgic for so long and then we get on with it. Truthfully those guys were having a blast on stage together, and should by some miracle Slash Duff Izzy (but probably not Steve) had made it up on the stage together, the freshness and friendship would not have been there.

It was a blast, take it or leave it. I am happy :)

  4. Darnit, was nearly done the post and my computer crashed so I don't feel like writing the whole thing again as it is past three am and I have to get up for work.

    But

Axl is back, the band jived like I never expected, and it is by far the best show I have ever seen.

All I can say is Wow. And to those of you who haven't seen him on this tour, GO BUY A TICKET!!!!

  5. As talented as Buckethead is, he only brought G'N'R bad publicity and made the band look like a freakshow. Now they look like what they are, a rock band. And Bumblefoot's charisma with the band will improve as he fits into the band more and gets more acquainted and comfortable.

    Correctamundo.

I for one am really REALLY glad that Buckethead was replaced with a human being. Regardless of your talent, you have to feel the artist to really appreciate them and Buckethead to me was CREEPY

I can't imagine having to spend any time with him. Watched that video from earlier in the thread and after about 2 minutes just shut it down.

    CREEPY!

  6. You know, I just spent the last 15 minutes or so reading this thread, and I'm just so FLIPPIN TIRED!

The people that are on this site are obviously big GNR fans (including myself, of course), and have forgotten and forgiven past antics and broken promises, and have remained faithful to Axl through the neverending process of releasing CD, and have gotten our hopes up OVER AND OVER AGAIN whenever we hear a tidbit of news.

I am starting to feel like I don't give a crap anymore, I'm tired of being let down, disappointed, and given false hope. When the leaks started happening, I really did believe that it was coming out in March-April-May like everyone said, but ... SEPTEMBER????? WTF???

I give up. Axl is starting to feel like a bad boyfriend, selfish, self-absorbed, thankless, insincere, and clueless. Will all be forgiven? I'm hearing on the radio that people are just fed up. Friends of mine who rocked out in 92 say they probably wont' bother this time round.

THIS IS THE GENERAL PUBLIC PEOPLE, not people like us that take the time to find a forum and keep eachother posted.

btw, don't you think it would be a lot better if, with the general feeling about GNR and it's never-coming album, the album were to be released before the show to give people some time to familiarize themselves with the new material, or even have a single get airplay (Better?) in order to get better response? I usually find I enjoy a show better if I've heard the new stuff once or twice before.

Sorry for the negativity people, I was just UNPLEASANTLY SURPRISED to see September when I, in my hope of all hopes, was still counting on May. :(

  7. I'm really excited with all that's been happening - tour dates, Axl getting out and about, I'm impressed with the leaked tunes and can't wait to hear the polished results. I've stood by all these years, and am finally able to tell the doubters "I told you so" now that CD is complete and ready to hit the shelves.

The only thing is, though, I have my reservations. Feeling a little like the donkey chasing the carrot - always in sight but can never get the damned thing. Saw GNR when they came around in 2002 just before the tour was called off, and it was a wicked show, but was extremely disappointed that he cut it short and pissed off so many fans. I'm glad a new tour is booked, but, I'm holding my breath because if Axl cancels this tour, and/or delays the release of CD for some reason or other, people, even the die hard fans like myself, will just get more frustrated.

Crossing my fingers that Axl will behave himself this time, do what he does well, and rock out! I don't feel like having to justify each delay or outburst to myself or others much anymore.

Although, If and When CD is released, i'll probably eat my words. <_<

  8. My friends rely on me for gnr updates ... although when i say "rely" I mean that they are reminded that they were wrong in thinking that gnr was finished.

I have to say, though, their interests have been peaked and have really liked the songs i've played for them, so they are doubting less and less that they will hear a new album.

Oh, to just throw that CD CD in the player already!

  9. No, the media doesn't care because GNR doesn't really matter when it comes to culture. It didn't start any movements or anything like that. Just because GNR was once popular does not mean it has the same legacy as an influential band. Nirvana changed a lot of things, so Nirvana is more important in the eyes of the media.

I love Guns N' Roses, I think the songs are fun to listen to, but the band was not really influential at all. What bands that came after GNR copied GNR? A lot of bands copied Nirvana, that's for sure. I don't even like Nirvana and I understand this.

I live in a city that has a lot of rock bands swimming around the undergrounds scene, and have gotten to know a lot of them quite well. One thing that they all have in common? GNR as an influence. Every member of that band has influenced so many musicians, but who could aspire to actually be like them? It's a fool's mission, you'd end up with dirt on your face. Nirvana, on the other hand, is a lot easier to emulate, but they were the groundbreakers in the direction music took for sure. But who can sing like Axl or play like Slash?

As far as the media, all they need is a moment of weakness and they encourage the public to jump on the bashing bandwagon, which all too often, people do. Then they change their minds, once the media does of course. It's all about the story, and a negative one causes more contraversy and talk than a complementary one.

  10. I think what Axl will bring back is the "concept" of an album that people like to listen to from beginning to end. That's what AFD and UYI's were to me. At the end of every song, I know exactly what the opening riff or drum is going to be, and it (almost always) runs so smoothly from song to song it's like a book. In this day of singles and one hit wonders, ipods and music sharing, it'll take an artist like axl to come out with an album like they used to make. I was listening to Alice Cooper's "Welcome to my Nightmare" not too long ago and it hit me that it had really been a long time since I heard a whole new album that I didn't get tired of after a few songs. GNR, you just have to listen to all of it!

I've been a defender of Axl's integrety over the years, and wondered why I even bothered at some points. Taking this long has grated on the most loyal of fans' patience, and we're pissed at how him and the rest of the gunners weren't able to reconcile. One of the reasons they couldn't work together anymore was because he was a perfectionist with big ideas when he was writing and recording songs like November Rain. While the other guys felt pushed out, thinking what the f*k with the violins and choir and piano, this is just a rock band! , Axl took the wheel without really seeming to care what the others felt and guess what? He came out with some epic Rock and Roll classics that everyone knows the words too. I can understand both sides.

This is why I continue to have faith in the future of GNR. He now has the freedom to do what he wants, he was never good at playing with others anyhow! And as far as Im' concerned with his a-hole behaviour and inconsiderate attitudes, what true artist isn't a little off their rocker anyhow? That is the price you pay for artistic genius.

  11. Wow! Totally unexpected, wicked beat, guitar, way to revolutionize, Axl! Many friends of mine will be eating their words now! This has been worth the wait, and we all knew that Axl wouldn't come out with something the same as what made them famous in the first place. The best thing is that this completely different than what is out there right now, totally unforgettable, and catchy. When's the last time we've heard real guitar playing? Totally danceble, 2

As far as the leaks, who knows! If it is a publicity stunt, it is totally working. Every radio station I hear is plugging the release, talking about the leaks, and having heard "better" and "TWAT", I think Axl's right. We "will hear music this year". YAY!
