  1. Axl Rose a little hit and miss at Guns N' Roses Perth Arena show

ARE Guns N' Roses days as a live band knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door?

Kicking off their national tour at Perth Arena last night, legendary frontman Axl Rose, the only remaining original member of the hard rock band, delivered a hit and miss vocal performance.

While there is little doubt the band, who formed back in 1985, know how to make an entrance - literally exploding onto the stage in a burst of pyrotechnics and launching straight into Chinese Democracy - the singer struggled to hit all the right notes.

However, the band, which includes DJ Ashba on guitar, Dizzy Reed on keys, Tommy Stinson on bass, Richard Fortus on guitar, Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal on guitar, Chris Pitman on keyboards and Frank Ferrrer on drums, were undeniably tight as they made their way through hits including Welcome To The Jungle, Estranged, Better, Live and Let Die and I Used To Love Her.

Each member proved to be a true showman, playing to the crowds for a set which featured impressive guitar solos from Ashba, Thal and Fortus, as well as a moment in the spotlight for Reed, seated at a piano in the centre of the stage.

And while something seemingly indescribable was missing on stage, the enthusiastic audience rocked out to the performance, particularly during songs like Sweet Child O' Mine, with Rose's vocals barely audible over the crowd screaming the lyrics at the top of their lungs.

Seated at a piano, dressed in a long black trench coat, Rose sang a cover of Pink Floyd's Another Brick In The Wall before continuing into November Rain, Don't Cry and by far the strongest vocal performance of the night, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, during which Rose was a force to be reckoned with.

After closing with Night Train and disappearing briefly from the stage, Guns N' Roses returned for an encore including Patience, which featured a beautiful acoustic intro, and Paradise City, which unfortunately ended the evening on a low note, with Rose's signature vocals repeatedly faltering.

Earlier in the night, Texan trio ZZ Top took to the stage oozing an effortless cool and delivering an excellent set featuring songs such as Jesus Left Chicago, I Gotsta Get Paid, Gimme All Your Lovin', My Head's In Mississippi, Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers and Sharp Dressed Man.

Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill rocked sunnies, sparkling jackets and their trademark long, silver beards, on stage with drummer Frank Beard, who is oddly the only member without such prominent facial hair.

The bluesy guitar riffs and deep vocals were to-die-for and hits like She's Got Legs, Tube Snake Boogie and La Grange were standouts.

The night had kicked off with a performance by Aussie rockers Rose Tattoo.

The bands next jet to Sydney to perform before appearances in Newcastle, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The chick that did the review was complaining about the vocals at Deep Purple/Journey on Thursday night too.

Plus she looks about 15! https://twitter.com/TwistedKristy

  2. Ill try to get a couple pics

Easy to walk it man. Perth isn't that big of a city. Don't walk back from the gig tho when it's night time. You're likely to have a violent encounter with the "natives" especially if you go near the train station or the malls.

Guess ill take a taxi then

Don't waste you time and money getting a taxi, there will be people everywhere after the gig (it is Saturday night after all!) and is unlikely you will have a violent encounter. There will be thousands of GNR fans flooding into the city's bars so you will have back up if there is any problems :)

  3. That photo of axl isn't in Perth, look at the drinks - they aren't Australian.

The photo of the WACA is taken from the old Hyatt on Adelaide Terrace. Don't know the name of it now.

^ the drink look like Canada Dry whatever that is, he's in a transit lounge somewhere not even in aus yet.

It would be taken from Frasers Serviced apartments if you want to stalk them!

  4. To the people going to the Sydney show, if you want to be up front(I am assuming it's first in best dressed since its all GA) what time would be good to start lining up at the stadium? I'm not familiar with the telstra 500 concert, how exactly does it work in terms of crowd placement, is everyone on the ground?

p.s any ideas on the attendance?

Its first in best dressed.. I'm aiming to be in the stadium as soon as the security allows entry.. around 4 or 430pmish I think..

do you think it'll be worth lining up prior to 4? say 12PM onwards?

Looking at the track layout, I would be suprised if you could even get near the stadium until the race is over.

    according to Ticketek:

    Running times:

Concert to be held at ANZ Stadium on Sat 4 Dec

    Gates Open: 4pm

    Delta Riggs: 5.30pm

    Spiderbait: 6.20pm

    Guns N' Roses: 7.35pm

Please Note: Running times and are approximate and may be subject to change. The event may add, withdraw, reschedule or substitute artists and or vary the event program.

  5. just incase ppl miss my last post.. Info about General Admin tickets.. Was just talking to a guy who went to the concert last year

"GA tickets will get you into the stadium, i.e. out on the grass (playing area).

GA tickets will not allow you to sit in the grandstand or to stand in the mosh pit.

The grandstand and mosh pit are reserved for corporate or reserved grandstand seating.

What they did last year was if you had a corporate or reserved seating and you wanted to get into the mosh pit you actually had to register about 2 hrs prior to the concert starting."

I was under the impression if i had GA tickets id walk in early straight up to the front stage...?? anyone got further info

In that case, I'm getting grandstand tickets. For an extra $90 a ticket, it will be worth it to avoid the dissapointment and headaches!

  6. Rose Tattoo guitarist dies

    March 28, 2006 - 2:19PM

Legendary Australian guitarist Pete Wells from the rock band Rose Tattoo has died after a long illness.

The announcement was made this morning on Rose Tattoo's website and the website of the band's former record label, Alberts.

Wells had been suffering from prostate cancer.

"We have to announce, with much sadness, that Pete Wells passed away today," the statement said.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

"The good news is that Pete's music will live on for the inspiration of generations to come.

"RIP Pete Wells, a great musician, a rock 'n' roll legend and most importantly a great friend."

Along with AC/DC and The Angels, Rose Tattoo helped establish an Australian rock sound in the 1970s that was copied around the world.

The Rose Tattoo song Nice Boys was covered by LA rockers Guns n' Roses in the late 1980s.

Australian rockers including the Beasts of Bourbon, Paul Kelly and Tim Rogers staged benefit concerts for Wells in Sydney and Melbourne last September.
