  1. I thought he was fine with nuguns. From the clips from troubadour I thought he was shitty. As someone else said earlier, he seemed very "separate" from the band. Hopefully it will get better. I have nothing against him but I wasn't impressed based on the clips.

  2. There are positives to this situation. Axl has a freedom not enjoyed by many artists. They were afforded studio time to created basically two great cds of material, they can take their time.

Whether CD was completely cohesive doesnt take away from the quality and creativity on display track to track. Not to everyone's taste but the spin on classic rock is fresh, with one of the great vocalists/lyrics of our times.

Sure Axl is awarkward and has high ideals but in an ocean of artists being bullied into releasing tracks on a clock for their careers, one guy pushing in a different direction is no bad thing. Just let it play out.

Isn't that part of the problem though? He's not pushing in any direction. He's just doing nothing. Stagnating. Hardly admirable or exciting for fans. But it's his life and if he wants to do nothing then that's up to him. But I think a lot of folks would have more respect for him if he put GNR out of its misery, if he really has no hunger or ambition to move the band forward. How can he expect the fans to believe this is Guns N Roses when even Axl himself treats the band members as hired help who aren't even worth recording new material with? Way to make people feel valued. And he wonders why he can't keep a guitarist.

The way he treated Ron was a disgrace. Eight years of faithful service in the band, great with the fans, an absolute master at his craft and not once did Axl attempt to legitimise the 09-14 lineup by letting them collaborate on new material for the band. Axl Rose doesn't deserve to have musicians of that calibre in his "band."

That may or may not be true. Ron may have known the deal.

We know it's not conventional way to do things. Megadave has put out music despite the train wreck of line ups. Fair enough.

What I'm say let's except its not conventional. But what are the upsides? I would say it's quality of the material. Quite possibly we could easily have 4-5 UYI style cds. What Axl did was try to reinvent the wheel, reimagine GNR in a 90s style. Takes a bit more time, throws up a few problems. Whether it's be necessity or design, they dug a hole and had to work out of it. There was time and money for this, and a frontman who wasnt going to release just product to keep fans or label happy.

Of course if you think CD is shit, then yep what is he doing?!

yeah they could have put out 7 replica UYIs with Slash and Izzy and been as huge as Stones or DC. Thats what we lost. But they didnt want to do that.

but look at the upside, CD covered the distance in a more original way.not the same ole reunion story and mediocre cash in albums. You get this unique record and storied history.

It was a good thing to take on new influences and work to make it GNR enough to release. What you end up with is something a little more interesting. It may turn out to ust be the mid era of GNR. They could still reunion and crank out a Reunion record.

But seems like Axl has one more solid record. You know it's going to be great. Its not going to be auto pilot cookie cutter GNR, it's going to be worth the wait.

For the record I think CD is really good and imo very under rated for a variety of reasons but "auto pilot cookie cutter" is really no way to describe any gn'r effort pre CD. Also the assumption that they could have kept the same formula and then using the "auto pilot cookie cutter" description of what might have been had the originals stayed together and made more albums, let's not forget that each and every album original guns put out had at least one if not multiple classic songs that stood the test of time and will continue to be enjoyed by generations forever. I'll take that any day and I believe they could have continued to produce timeless classics. Not trying to start a fight. Just saying......✌

  3. Pittmans role was a lot bigger and a lot more noticeable in 2001-2002. Once the real nu gnr was done, the sound of the band changed quite a bit imo. By the time 2006 rolled around and since his role in the band is a head scratcher to me. That said I liked what he added to some of the old songs and especially liked what he added to the blues in 2002. Whatever. Who cares.

  4. I liked the way the blues/street of dreams sounded in 02 and also Madagascar. better than anytime after. his voice was vastly different but the tour wasn't exactly a long one and the clips and reviews prove he was getting better. cleaner voice but he had the ability to sustain long notes. catcher and twat would've sounded great live back then IMO.

  5. rose22-

that's awesome that you saw The Blues in 2002. That's my favorite version of that song. Which 02 show did you see? I'm envious of the fact you saw one of those gigs.

Allstate arena 2002. it's in Rosemont but everybody always says Chicago. used to be called Rosemont Horizon so that's where I seen them in 92 as well. shit in 06 to damn. also that year Detroit and 2 gigs at the Hammerstein in New York.

  6. How many people saw The Blues and how many saw Street Of Dreams? Which did you prefer? Personally, I enjoyed The Blues in Greensboro '06 far more than Street of Dreams in Greenville '11, Atlanta '11 and Atlanta '12.

the blues in 02 was the best for me. 06 was great but that song really suited that 02 voice well. same as maddy as far as I'm concerned. to each his own. I'll always call it the blues but whatever. technically I've seen them both sod and the blues so yeah hands down the blues imo

  7. well i may forget a song or two but i definately wont be adding anything i havent heard. here goes.....

jungle, easy, nightrain, out ta get me, brownstone, paradise city, michelle, think about you, sweet child, rocket queen, nice boys, move to the city, patience, used to love her, you're crazy, right next door to hell, dust n bones, live and let die, dont cry, you aint the first, bad obsession, double talkin, november rain, the garden, dead horse, coma, civil war, yesterdays, heavens door, pretty tied up, so fine, estranged, you could be mine, down on the farm, attitude, cd, shacklers, better, the blues, sorry, irs, maddy, this i love

not gna bother counting all the other solos and songs by different members. i think thats it

  8. But to answer the question, I think axl wld get an instant nervous/uncomfortable feeling then when he seen it was a fake slash he'd play it off and have a laugh and try to say something clever/funny. Pretty much how slash handled it although slash's initial reaction looked more nervous in a good way if that makes any sense while axl's initial reaction wld prob be more like internally thinking shit! Kimmel you mother fucker! But like I said I think he'd play it off.

  9. NOTHING by the 2001-2002 version fo the band is equal to the AFD band. They never had a show as energetic or as organic or as mindblowing as the AFD lineup. They never created anything even remotely as iconic or enjoyable as the AFD band. In 2014 if you put the AFD band together on stage, even with Steven they'd blow the 2001=2002 lineup off the stage. The original post isn't controversial it's just straight up fantasy.

You can't be serious. Old band is awesome, but it's not even close. Strictly speaking in terms of live musicianship, old guns couldn't even road crew for new guns. (and yes, I saw them both)

Hahaha how fucking stupid. I can't belive people like you even exist. The AFD lineup's worst show is better than Axl's futureistic era GnR's best show. Like seriously we're talking an all time classic band who is one of the very best of all time not being as god live as a bunch of guys covering their music. Seriously it's such an asinine topic. Sure the guys in future GnR are amazing musicians but that does NOT equate to better live performances. The Rotz dvd on it's own kicks the crap outta anything future GnR did live
I can't believe murderers, rapists, pedophiles exist or are allowed to. Not a poster on a forum giving his opinion on a topic. Sounds like ur saying cuz he doesn't agree with ur opinion he's stupid and his existence on this planet to u is mind boggling. Or was this all abt the part where he said it being a bit of a dick or ur being a dick? Whatever man. On topic......I liked the way the '02 lineup played some stuff. Other stuff not so much. Didn't like you cld be mine or the drumming. Didn't like patience or the drumming to name a few. Very talented yes. Technically better? I don't know. Maybe. Better? No. Nothing will top a GNR lineup imo with the 5 original guys. Balls, groove, exciting and cohesiveness. One of the greatest lineups of all time.
  10. I wouldn't mind hearing them live back to back to back. As long as he rehearsed, was prepared and played them all on piano himself.(with the band of course) Never really bought the whole " I can't play estranged on piano live cuz it brings out to many emotions in me and I have to move around to much" thing he said back in the day. Off topic but I wish he'd use more of the gran Torino style vocals he did for more of his songs or future songs. Whatever.

  11. I like the keys in bad obsession the most. The two songs I never thought translated well when finished were don't cry and heavens door. After hearing incredible versions of both on live boots for a few years before, I was disappointed. I don't have much of a problem with the rest. It was the right album(s) at the right time. Yeah it's over produced but that's all part of the times. Dont listen to it much anymore. Or any of them tbo. When I listen to guns it's usually live shit throughout the years.
