  1. TWAT

music-not big on the whining sound throughout most of the song. i do enjoy the mysterious opening sound(s)....before the whining kicks in...the light drum beat(s) works for me..i love drumming in most songs if it is consistent in terms of flow..the guitar licks are just enough given the slower tempo of the song..just right.....in an odd way, about 3 minutes into the tune i get a flashback to estranged (or parts of it)....one of my favorite gnr tunes, videos..(there just wasnt enough of the other guys in it though)...the techno stuff is ok. it works..its not out of place...the guitar solos, as was mentioned by alot of folks really sounds like Bucket..especially at the 5 minute mark...

vocals-axls vocals are not as good on this tune..thats not to say there not good though..just not striking me as a song that really displays his one-of-a-kind pipes! you can still hear that he has it...i dont think the really special singers really ever lose it...so many examples to express this point...first one to my mind right now would be willie nelson...hardly the same style obviously, but u can get the point..the chorus on this, not the strongest of most gnr songs past and present. perhaps during most of the song the vocals are drowned out by the music being to loud...there also seems to be distortion in spots purposely put there...not sure i like that..the raw energy without electronics is my preference..but this song, along with the other two leaks hints that this blend is not going anywhere..so im going to embrace what i like of it and give it a chance..the band singing the stuff at the end (6 min mark) is flat out gay to me..last thing they need to do is bring 'backstreets back' - alright?

appeal-seems to about a story about some kind of relationship that didnt work out...hello, erin everly..remember the warren beatty rant from the Paris France hippodrome concert show in 92 or 93? anyone, anyone? since im happily married going on 4 years in october i dont relate quite as well to this sort of story line..however knowing enough about gnr, axl and his travels i enjoy hearing his recollections...i really have to 'use my illusions' to truly appreciate this tune

overall 5/10 (ok...5.5/10 but thats it for now - perhaps the finally version will crack open a beer for me and drink itself)

    IRS

music - im digging the way axl and the boys have constructed the beginning of this song..this style isnt heard all that much..and its a positive change..the instruments all blend really good..its a rough, hard and strong tune...if i could play guitar (does air guitar count), id have learned these chords...

vocals - the opening, the use of his voice with the music is cool.much like he did with welcome to the jungle...it almost is like another instrument...at first listen, it sound slike an instrument..on second listen u know its him.. the way axl can hold his scream is really used well during this song..long and short bursts..i

love this chrous...something quick, catchy..the scream mid 3 minute mark is trademark! he ends it just the same...good call on leaving the vocals complete it...rather than end it with some godawful thomp thomp of a drum that rarely ever works...except for Adler!

appeal - seems like axl is just venting about the turmoils he (we all) face...it doesnt matter who, he wants some help here...from the president to a new woman...the 3-4 minute mark is the core of this song..the main tempo is great...i hope, if this song is on the album, they leave out alot of the slower parts...however, the transitioning between bridges is pretty sweet nonetheless....IRS, being a US acroynym for Internal Revenue Service is an interesting title..not sure if this was his intended use or not..but if it is, lets hope he has filed and paid his dues..otherwise, the interest among them may lead to another tour collapse..

    overall 7.7/10

    Better

music - again, a song with a beginning that kicks some ass...the main sound is really tight with the lyrics...im not totally sold on the techno elements mixed..but...this doesnt sound bad..it really works here for me...the guitar shredding during the chrous is ok..but it drowns out his voice too much..at the time of this

review, id yet to get a listen to the full length cut...

vocals-hopefully this isnt the final version..crispers vocals are needed..i like the band/backup singers that sing along during the song..reminds me of angels..at the time of this review, id yet to get a listen to the full

length cut...appeal-totally a mid-tempo, but persitent song that screams of great elements...its the solid

tune that we all will most likely hear lead of the album on radio...i like the vocals and the music hitting strides at the same time..sort of sweet child o' mine like in that sense, to me. i understand very few people may get that..but thats ok...

    overall 7.9/10
