  2. not a fan of this song either, live or the leaked demo we heard. very repetetive and just plain boring. only weak song of the leaks. hope it doesnt make CD. and if it does and catcher doesnt make the album that would be shitty

  3. This song means alot to me, single-handedly, it got me interested in the new lineup. I liked "Chinese Democracy" also, but I've always thought that "The Blues" was an instant classic. It's one of my favorite Guns N' Roses songs.

Now I know it's been a long time since I started a topic in here or said anything too positive about the band, but I've just gone on a little excursion and I feel like some might like to read my opinion on it. This song is very important to me, and in a way it represents everything about the new band for me.

As you might have predicted, I've listened to a version from 2002 and a version from 2006. I'm not too fussed about the difference in the arrangements, in fact I think the new introduction would sound better in a studio version. I'd like to note, that on either version, the value of Pit(t)man becomes clear, his parts are essential to the song. The solo is about the same, a few more subtle technical flashes were added in the 2006 version. Now, on to the meat of it. Call me crazy, but I like Axl's voice better in the 2002 version, yes, the rasp is less apparent, but he seems like he has better control over his pitch and tone. Another big difference to me is in the general groove of the band, there was a real nice bounce to the 2002 version that just isn't there anymore. I prefer the 2002 version.

I will say that if they ever release a good studio version of "The Blues", this band will really be worth something.

nice post, i also feel the 2002 live versions are the best (Nampa soundboard is my fav version that ive ever heard) the studio version i have such high hopes for< i just KNOW its gonna be incredible!! with that said i think thats what makes all the waiting for the album so hard, we that have heard the newer material know very well the potential & high quality of music that we're in store for : )

  4. Meanwhile, Velvet Revolver is finishing up their new record which shall be released in 2007 - this is confirmed by Matt Sorum himself, who I briefly spoke with at Spaceland on Sunday night.

Can we give Velvet Revolver a trophy or something for doing right by their fans?

no because there mediocre at best>

  5. You must forgive me as I've been out of the rap game since Tupac died. It seems to me it's just a bunch of talentless nig_ers rapping these days. Would Nas be stiff competition for GnR like Jay Z?

No because Nas doest have anyone near the exposure that Jay Z had. Nas although more talented then Jay Z, Nas doesnt whore his music out for any product that wants to use him to exploit his target market. So I'm sure that Nas will do well with sales, but no where near what Jay Z's did.

Anyways I'm not convinced that the 19th is the date, even though Axl said "late fall" and the 19th of Dec is as late in fall that it can get> I guess we can think of that day as Judgement Day for Axl!! Either he's a man of his word or he's a cash grabbin double talkin jive motherfucker!!

  6. i would switch axl & cornell and also halford & freddy m. alos maynard and trent deserve to be higher on this list (top10) but i understand they give the guys with more of a legacy extra credit for being the innovators (i.e halford, ozzy, scott)

i dont understand how mick(rolling stones) coud be considered a heavy metal vocalist< same for steven tyler, aerosmith has been a pop rock band for over a decade now.

  7. I wouldn't consider Josh Freese a member of Gnr. Sure he worked on some tracks and was the drummer on one song, Oh My God, but he never even played a single show with them. Therefore, I don't even consider him a "member" of Guns N' Roses, just a fill-in while Axl was sorting things out.

yeah i believe he is often a studio session drummer for lots of artists...i wouldnt call him a ex member really

  8. I couldnt help notice that when Brain was absent from the tour and even though merck tried to play it off that supposedly brain AND frank were both in GnR, was when I first became leary about this finally being the year we were all waiting for! I mean why would he decide to take the whole tour off when the album was supposed to be released in the near future. Wouldnt Brain wanna be able to enjoy the release of an album that he has worked on and toured for, for more then half a decade??

NO, because right around that time he must've found out that once again things werent gonna work out this year for the album. He said "fuck it" I have a newborn and a famiily that I can be with, why end up touring again for months for no reason but to mak axl's wallet a little fatter!!

This of course is just a theory and hope I am wrong but I can see it playing out this way. Cant blame the guy for wanting to get a way from all the bs that comes with being a hired gunner!
